This was the first time my wife and I have gone to this outstanding restaraunt. The normal expectations were met when eating in a seafood establishment such as this one. No dress code, and you still have some of the freahest clams, main lobster, and seafood in the greater Phoenix area. The tarragon salad was one of my first high points. Followed by a great clam appetizer of the large perportion. Then the stuffed main lobster with scallops and crab was to die for. Combined with the Fried shrimp, bone in ribeye and exquisite crab cakes, I found everything to be delicious and well prepared. Add all this with some of the best wine and whisky selection, and you have a robust combination of dining I will surely expierence again in the near future.
I love the Salt Cellar! My Husband & I had dinner here last night (not for the first time) & it was amazing, just as I expected. The staff is always very friendly & helpful. We started with Oysters Rockefeller (which I highly recommend) & we had the lobster as our main course. Everything was perfect & then some! Indulging in all this restaurant has to offer is always a pleasure & we can't wait to return. This place is a must for anyone contemplating giving it a try!
We loved the atmosphere, it's a very unique place. The bartender and hostess were very friendly and we had a no wait time ( even though they had a wait line in the bar for over an hour) and our table already had Pam's flowers on it. Our waiters were first class, excellent fresh fish is flown in daily. Pam loved it and that's all that matters. We laughed (I love when she laughs) and smiled and hugged and talked about how blessed we are. 42 years. Pam is my "everything" and Salt Cellar made our anniversary dinner as delightful as it gets. Thank you again.
The service was amazing. We had no reservation and the staff squeezed us in! Food was spectacular with the exception of the combination plate. Unbelievably, it was removed from our bill - not asked for and unexpected! The shrimp appetizer, clam chowder and attentive staff will keep me coming back!
Awesome restaurant experience- I rate it 5 stars because after two awesome experiences, I want this place to stay.
Great seafood- huge portions; friendly staff; professional bartenders
The bar staff was incredible as we ate at the bar! Come early to get your seat. Both Cameron at the “dessert bar” and the girls behind the liquor bar Mandi, and Madison are incredible! They are personable and make you feel welcome! We miss Abby and Lexi but these girls are great. The food is delicious and prepared by a great staff. The appetizer trio is ALWAYS delicious!!! By the time I hear the dinner specials, I rarely order from the menu. Seafood is fresh and their are so many good choices!!
We went last night for our anniversary and it was absolutely amazing!!! The food, atmosphere, and our server (Ron) were outstanding. 😊
I was thrilled to find this iconic restaurant still open, since I moved out of the Valley a few decades ago. The same owner has held this gem open for 43 years! Outstanding food.. our server Michelle was awesome. Atmosphere... ambient and romantic 😍 💕
My group of 5 had a reservation here this last weekend. Everything went smoothly. The service was professional and kind. The drinks were spectacular and the food fresh and delicious. This place has been around for decades and always impressed. Thanks and we look forward to our next visit!
It was our first visit, loved it! Scott and Hannah were both great to explain options for beverages and food! We were pleasantly surprised and will be back!!
Great happy hour! We enjoyed a wonderful selection of appetizers and a bottle of wine, all at reduced prices. Ashley was tremendous behind the bar. She answered all our questions and made some delicious suggestions and worked like she had 4 arms!
The Salt Cellar was established in 1971. I used to frequent it in the 80's and 90's. I returned in 2017 and was pleased that they were still there. After seeing "Tina" at Gammage, we wanted a late night snack and The Salt Cellar was open until midnight. We arrived atound 11:15pm and enjoyed the perfect cocktails and mocktails recommended by our bartender Ashly, and fresh blue point oysters on the half shell, escargot in mushroom caps, a bucket of steamed mussels in butter sauce as well as the fun conversation and great service. Several groups of regulars arrived after us; I'll become one. It was a wonderful experience!
This was my first time here and I was definitely impressed. The atmosphere is awesome. Very ambient and great for anniversary or special occasions. Probably a better place for small groups or couples. The staff was very courteous. The food was amazing. We had the mussels as an appetizer and it was much more than I expected. The crab cakes and the lobster were perfect. The accompanying sauces and butters were phenomenal. Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu!
My wife and I have wanted to go to The Salt Cellar for the longest time. We grew in town and never had the chance to go until recently. The service was outstanding. Our server recommended wine that would compliment our dishes and the selection was on point. Very delicious. We had the oysters and scallops to start. Both dishes were amazing. The starter salads looked as though they were store bought and the dressings were subpar. The Chilean sea bass was watery and tasted off, I did not finish that dish. The halibut was a bit dry but still good. The atmosphere was too dim for my taste. Too dark to really appreciate the colors of the food and tell if every was cooked properly. If we do return it will be just for cocktails and the oysters at the bar. The pricing was a bit much, I've paid less for better food at other restaurants.
Fantastic birthday dinner. The staff was fun and very helpful with suggestions. We tried Turtle Soup for the first time and it was delicious. Everything be said try the stuffed lobster so I did. Very delicious-they crack it at your table for you to make it easier to eat. So good!
Went once for dinner. Crab was good, our server opened up all the legs for me. Salads were plain, expected a little more, but it’s a seafood place not salad bar. Seafood was good, seemed pretty fresh. Was quiet and comfy. Overall had a good night.
Highly recommend the king crab. And be sure to make a reservation in advance. Beautiful amphitheater!
We haven’t been to Salt Cellar for several years because of the distance. Nothing has changed. It still is a wonderful restaurant in a quiet intimate setting. The great variety of seafood dishes are all expertly prepared and the servers are all knowledgeable and helpful with a minimum of intrusion. Nothing wrong with this “old school” restaurant based on quality food and excellent service.
Salt cellar is a cozy place to eat seafood. It was our first time here for a party of 6. There are lots of stairs to traverse so if you are not a stair person then keep that in mind. I didn’t see an elevator but they probably have one. We had late dinner reservations. The food was delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented on the plates. For an appetizer we had bay scallops. These were the best tasting scallops I have ever had and I eat a lot of seafood. The wait for the food was very long. I am not sure if staff called out sick or they don’t have enough help. (It was Super Bowl weekend) we were all very hungry by the time the food started arriving. I would suggest you order your food immediately when the waitress shows up to get drinks. If you don’t want a long wait. Our waitress was very good and nice. She was knowledgeable about the menu and had tried a lot of food items so she was able to give us very good suggestions. We had a good time here but would not come hungry to this restaurant.
I'm from the east coast. I was there visiting. And I was thrilled to find out that I could find some good seafood from the East Coast at the salt seller... Oysters were phenomenal. Steam clams were excellent along with all the few other things we had.... Very good food and drinks!!!
Had a great date night here. The food was so flavorful and the service was excellent. Wish we had more time to enjoy the atmosphere and check out the bar, which looked so cozy, but we didn’t plan well and had an event to rush off to afterward. If we lived closer, this would be our go-to date night spot. I definitely recommend it for a special night out!
My all-time favorite place for a date night and seafood. We always get the 3lb stuffed lobster to share. Not kidding, 3 POUNDS. worth every penny.
Took my wife out for our 10th wedding anniversary dinner and this place didn’t disappoint. Food was amazing drinks where perfect. Ashley was our server. Her recommendation where right on. She went above and beyond for us. Tried amaretto cheesecake out of this world. We will be back. Thank you Ashley.
