Don't order South Indian food. Got tiny Idly and dal sambar. North Indian food was decent. Hot naan was very good and surprisingly affordable. Fit for students on a budget

My go-to destination for delicious Indian curry!. There are a lot of competing Indian restaurants in the U-District. This particular one is a hidden gem in my opinion. It's one of the cheaper options and isn't loud and crowded like Cedars -- plus they give you unlimited refills on rice! The decor is nice but not overly pretentious. It's a reasonable spot to take a date, especially if you're a student at UW. The lady who works there is very nice. She doesn't speak much English but she always makes sure you're taken care of. If you're lucky you might get a free order of pappadam or gulab jamun.

Some of my favorite dishes include the Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Kofta, and Palak Paneer. The Garlic Naan and Samosas are great as well. The lunch buffet is solid. Some Indian restaurants serve what seem like watered down versions of their dinner entree curries, but not at Jewel of India.

Excellent Restaurant, Wonderful Buffet. The Jewel of India is one of my favorite restaurants in the U-district. I've been coming here for nearly a decade for the delicious food and the friendly atmosphere. They offer the best Indian buffet in the area, and have won over friends of mine who typically shy from buffets. They've even added chai tea to the buffet, making a good thing even better. Their Matar Paneer, Saag, Channa Masala, and Daal Maharani are all excellent, but I've honestly never had a bad dish here -- just some I prefer more than others. The pakoras here are second to none and they even offer a pakora curry. The Jewel of India is great for meat-eaters, vegetarians, and even vegans.

Hidden jewel in the U. When I first happened upon this place, their lunch buffet was up, and it was good, although typical for common Indian buffet fare (the pakoras are amazing, though). However, upon visiting in the evening, I was blown away by their Kashmiri chicken. Out of this world, especially with garlic nan. After that, I was hooked, and after trying each curry their menu provides, I still come back for more. If you dig the spice, and ask for a '5", they may be wary, so go ahead and go for a "6" or "7" and surprise 'em.

Service is superb; our water is always filled, food comes to us very quickly (and always hot), and the owners have no problem explaining certain dishes to us.

Here's a tip, though, try their chai... they get it spot on each and every time, I could just take a shower in all of it...

And for desert, this place makes the best kheer around, an awesome balance of spices and texture. Also, the little fried balls are good, forget what they're called, though...

Regulars for a Reason!. My boyfriend and I go to Jewel of India on a regular basis, and to be honest, I didn't like Indian food until I had Jewel of India. The Butter Chicken is my favourite dish, and all of their nan is so wonderful (you can try the nan sampler, and get a variety of flavours. Awesome!)!
Also, this is one of the few restaurants that I have encountered that actually serves their food hot. Not warm enough to eat, but actually HOT! Everything feels and smells so fresh; it's fantastic. I love this restaurant so much.
I don't think we will ever stop going.

Great Lunch Buffet!!!. I've come here more times that I'd like to admit but everytime I go I plan to come back. The food is really excellent and other than a bit of a scary front window area the food is really delicious. In fact it's so good I come all the way over from Redmond just to eat here.

Pakora Curry!. Excellent buffet - you'll be stuffed by the end because there's so much selection! We ordered delivery for the first time and it was fantastic. I'm a big fan of Bengal Tiger and this was at the same level, but more savory (Bengal Tiger has much more cream I think, it's definitely sweeter). For the adventurous try the pickles! It's insanely intense. Finally I can order very spicy and it actually is - Seattle restaurants think most people can't handle it, but if that's so, why would I ask for it?

I went to Jewel of India for the first time last year (2009), and immediately loved all their dishes. It is family owned and the people there are super friendly. The food is delicious. Their butter chicken is second to none. Amazing food. Been going there once every two weeks to dine.

This is hands down the best Indian food in Seattle. I have been eating here for 7 years and never eat Indian food elsewhere anymore. The lunch buffet is always satisfying and dinner is even better. The buffet always has rice, samosa, pikora, butter chicken, tandoori chicken, and rice pudding. There are 3 or 4 other rotating vegetarian and carnivorious dishes also. Plain or garlic naan is also provided. Nothing fails to satisfy and is very reasonably priced. The Thali dinner plates are fantastic. I no longer order of the menu, I just ask them to bring me whatever they like. This never costs more and is always great. It is a huge amount of food and I often eat the leftovers for a snack later. The owners both work here and are very kind people. They make you feel welcome and it makes you want to return. Don't pass up the opportunity to eat here.

Good lunch buffet. I had their lunch buffet for the first time recently and was satisfied with their vegetarian and meat options. The Saag Paneer was one of the better ones I've had, and I love that samosas were included with the buffet. The place was quite empty on the day we were there, but we were early so the food was still hot and fresh. Overall, good food for a great price. Not too much sets it apart from the numerous other Indian buffets on the Ave, but I'll be back if only because of the samosas.

Delicious!. I just ate at Jewel last night. The butter chicken was succulent. The panneer was spiced perfectly. And the nan was made to order. I have been to Taste of Indian in the U. District as well, and thought their food was good, but not great. I am glad to know about Jewel as it answers the need for great Indian food. And if you have a vegetarian in your party, I think you will find it even better -- a good half of the menu is 100% vegan.

First time having Indian food in a restaurant. The service was friendly and professional. The food was incredible. The flavor profiles of our dishes were amazing. Coworker suggested samosas first, I loved the potato filling with the hint of spice and the mint chutney sauce they serve with them is one of the best sauces I have had before. Naan was flaky and soft, rice was cooked perfect, spice levels were perfect.. All around a really great experience. If you are wanting Indian food, give this place a try.

Jewel of India catered a recent Diwali celebration for my team at work and oh my goodness it was phenomenal!! I chatted through all my details over the phone and then was able to conduct the rest of my ordering via email. The menu is extensive and every single item we picked out was so delicious. They delivered everything to us and we definitely got more than our monies worth of food! 10/10 would recommend.

The diamond in the rough. Today, I dove into the unknown and found some delightful dishes. The Hummus and Spinach Naan were very good entrees. An out of this world experience. The main dish sealed the deal. We’ll done Baljit.

Punjabi Indian restaurant, located in University district in Seattle. Restaurant is open full day, you will get alacarte menu from 3pm onwards. Great options for vegetarians and non vegetarians. Veg platter is delicious, Tandoori Roti, Paneer Paratha is authentic and delicious, Baingan bartha (Eggplant curry with Basmati rice) is delicious and goes well with Roti and Pratha. The only problem is Vege Biriyani. It was the worst biriyani ever. It’s not biriyani but curry mixed with vegoans rice. 0/5 for vegetable biriyani. Other vegetarian dishes- 5/5 Service- 5/5 quick and friendly. #Seattle #Washington #IndianFood

Buffet is good, not great.I'd return if I'm in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way. I would get the to-go buffet next time. Looks like a better deal. Same price but you can fill up a container as much as you want.

Staying overnight in University District and wanted a nice-ish dinner, but it was late on Veterans Day and a lot of places were closed, so I kind of stumbled in here since I’m always a fan of Indian food. The menu really has everything, but I wanted to get something relatively light and the waiter gave me some really helpful suggestions. I ended up going with the Samosa Chat and a Salty Lassi. Everything was perfect and super flavourful. The samosa chat was an explosion of textures and sweet and savoury curry. The lassi was also loaded with spices and was very rich. Definitely the best lassi I’ve tried! Prices are totally fair. The eating area was clean, but the bathroom was, for lack of a better word, dank. The kitchen is located in the same dark back hallway which makes me wonder if it’s kept in the same condition as the dining room of the bathroom. Nothing appeared off about my food though so I can hope it’s the former. It was closing time when I was done eating, and the chef was out helping to clean up after another party and I had the chance to talk with him a little. Like the waiter, he’s a really nice guy and cares about the food. The presentation of the food is very nice but the atmosphere is really casual and unpretentious, and it came out quickly, which made this the perfect place for me, and I would definitely recommend it for a quality meal.

This place has become my happy place. When I need to cheer myself up, I end up ordering from here. I love everything I have tried so far. It's never spicy, which I appreciate and love. Food is always flavorful, nice portion sizes, high quality, not greasy, & nicely packed. The best part, when I have ordered take out, is that there is always someone from their restaurant team who deliveres and they are always kind, and friendly and surprisingly fast which is rare. I ordered today, and this gentleman who brought me food, my day by just being so polite and genuinely caring. They made me smile after a horrible day. I am not Indian but their food always makes me feel like its a home cooked family meal that was made with love, and I am part of the fam. 10/10.

Their coconut chicken curry is so amazing, it will send you into raptures! The creamy coconut curry is rich without dairy, nor is it oily. The chicken is tender, moist, cooked to perfection & melts in the mouth. I ordered their mushroom peas curry & coconut chicken curry & I’m hooked - this is a place I’ll return again & again. Healthy food that reminds you of home… “dil maange more!”
