One expects a certain quality at a Chinese place located next to a grocery store and this place is not that. It is so much better and is probably some of the best standard Chinese food I've had in a casual setting. The general tso's chicken is actually crispy and not a gummy mess. The beef and broccoli has real beef that tastes great. Sometimes it could use a little more beef, but not enough to complain. The prices aren't bad either. Lo mean is good, boneless spare ribs are good, and the sesame chicken is good. I was eating there once or twice a week the last few months.
You will be hard pressed to find anything close to the value this place provides. You'd think the food would either be bad or the price would be higher, yet they somehow fulfill both. I would put the actual food quality/taste at a 4/5 stars, its not the literal best Chinese food I have had but definitely one of my favorite places to eat when you factor in the amazing prices/portions this place is easily the best value restaurant I have ever been to!!
Been eating here for 4 years, and this is still hands down the BEST Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to. The food is FANTASTIC absolutely AMAZING. The food has always been fresh and even with inflation now, the prices are still reasonable. The customer service is excellent, even if you have to wait a while, the food is always worth it! The egg-rolls, they are so big compared to other places, crisp, and mouth watering! The sesame chicken is so sweet and the amount they give you is such a generous portion you CAN NOT beat that for the price! I seriously recommend you going here if you want well made takeout!
Never had any issues. The food is always great and cooked in an appropriate amount of time. We love the bourbon and sesame chicken. Shrimp egg rolls and shrimp fried rice. Prices are not over priced.
In the context of shopping center Chinese take-out, Rainbow Garden is a step above in a growing Clemson area that only recently gained new food options. Your slightly longer than expect wait is rewarded with fresh, made-to-order food from an impossibly large menu, like most of this kind of places. The trick is to find what they do well. Here, I suggest the healthy steamed options where you can still get the sauce on the side so it's not swimming in it. They serve quality veg and good meats. The egg rolls are particularly large and tasty, something that many places have ignored for quick, small and cheap. Their shrimp egg rolls are high quality like a nicer sit-down Chinese restaurant. For us older folks who remember when eating Chinese in the South was a treat, this may be your kind of place but in takeout form.
Servings are large, so it's a good value if you can store the leftovers, which keep well in the sturdy plastic containers that won't spill in your car (rice is still in the classic Chinese take out container). The owner fam is very friendly but seems under staffed (isn't everyone nowadays) so ordering ahead and patience is required. They have an oddly unusual bottled soft drink selection at very reasonable prices.
Took 50 minutes to produce take out order after estimating 10-25 minutes on the phone.
(Update: Food was really good though.)
(Update 2: Ordered here again. Same experience — excellent food, but very painful take-out experience. 50 minutes between calling in and food-in-hand.)
(Update 3: Have become addicted to the food here. It's actually REALLY good, and they pack a lot in the containers. But you gotta plan on waiting for it because you WILL wait. Best strategy is to put your order in (in-person because there's just no advantage to calling it in — you don't really go in the queue until you've paid) and then go next door to Food Lion and get your grocery shopping done. Once you get in this routine, this place is actually pretty great.)
On point most of the time. Sometimes the beef and broc has too much broccoli and not enough beef. The general taos is good, but sometimes the chicken is grizzly or tuff.
