Perfect ambiance for a casual date night. Clean quaint cafe that brought us friendly service and a delicious meal. Don't expect desert because the portion size was such that there wasn't room left. The homemade chips and queso started our meal and let us know that this place focused on fresh food with just the right kick. I chose the beef tenderloin entre and I must say it was prepared perfectly with a nice mushroom gravy, the zucchini and squash and Swiss cheese mashed potatoes were excellent partners and I didn't even get to the homemade bread. My wife opted for a BLT on homemade focaccia bread. She was wowed by the bread and commented that it was then best bread she has tasted since moving to TX six years ago. The b in her BLT should be capitalized as that sandwich had just the right amount of thick perfectly cooked center cut bacon. A nice crisp dill spear and the same fresh veggies accompanied her rather large sandwich. All in all a great meal and price that didn't break the bank. A nice glass of wine was all that was missing. Thanks and we will be back!
Based on our first visit we will likely be returning for more and here are the reasons why:
1) I've had the pleasure of having had Chef Robert's food in the past at Willowood Ranch in Bells, so I had higher expectations than I otherwise wouldn't at a new eatery.
2) The restaurant was very clean. I understand we probably arrived shortly after they opened today, but it's important to my family and me to see cleanliness where we eat.
3) There were three in our party and all three meals arrived piping hot and fresh. I had ordered a reuben with pastrami and a side of fresh potato chips. The meat was moist and tender and the bread, a rye, was fresh as well. We also had ordered a brisket grilled cheese and a kids meal with chicken nuggets and mac and cheese. While the brisket could have been chopped a bit more, the flavor was spot on with a fine balance of smokiness.
4) The prices were slightly more than I would have liked to pay for lunch (sandwich and chips - $9), I looked over the entire menu and felt the cost for meals and appetizers was just and affordable for dinner on a small budget.
5) The staff was friendly, courteous and attentive. One can't have too much of that while eating out!
I would have loved to try the desserts because they, too, looked amazing; however, I was STUFFED and needed to return to work without wanting to take a nap. Overall a 5 out of 5 for downtown Sherman because it was indeed excellent.
We got the Pastrami Reuben and chicken tortilla soup, to share. The pastrami was smoked, which gave it a whole new flavor. So good! The chicken tortilla soup was more like a chicken chili, which is not something that I would ever order. I'm so glad I did, because I can't imagine anything better on a cold day. The service was excellent, its clean and the prices were very reasonable for the quality of food. Will definitely be back!!
Went there today, one table open by the door, and the bar was empty. Chose the bar. Stools weren't the most comfortable (I'm a big guy) but all the staff passes by and talks to you, which more than makes up for it as they are pleasant even in a dead run lunch rush. Food was good, attitude was even better, return trip a guarantee.
We took our friends from out of town to dinner at Sage last night. Sage never disappoints. From The crab cake appetizers to the carrot cake dessert and everything in between, it was amazing!! Jeff loved the griled shrimp and the pork loin special was that indeed!!!! Robert and his staff go beyond to make your evening a relaxing one!!!
Awesome food, and service. The roast beef melted in your mouth. Oh and the chocolate pie , simple put was a slice of heaven. Lesa kept my drink full.
My Mother and I went to lunch at Sage Cafe last weekend for the first time and absolutely loved it! Walking into Sage Cafe, I was first struck with the awesome decor and loved the door wall and lighting fixtures! It was a Saturday and quite busy, but the ladies working found us a small table right away and were very attentive. For an appetizer we tried the Southwest Eggrolls and they were so good and the perfect amount for an appetizer. My Mother ordered the half smoked turkey sandwich with homemade chips and loved the flavor of the smoked turkey. I ordered the half brisket grilled cheese with coleslaw and the flavors were amazing! I've told so many friends about how great it was, and my family and I are looking forward to having my son's lunch/graduation party here next weekend! Keep doing an awesome job!
Always amazing food and service!! Would definitely recommend! If you haven't tried it you are missing out
Salmon is the best! Grilled and smoked!
Service and quality of food was incredible!
Thank you Chef Robert!
We ate there for the first time Saturday night for a wedding reception and the food and service was amazing. We will be back to try the rest of the menu.
Fantastic waitress, Lisa! She was so attentive and kind. Atmosphere was great and good food. Phenomenal chocolate cake!
The brisket tacos were very tasty. Our waitress Hannah was awesome!!!!!
Brisket grill cheese sandwich was sooo good! The chocolate chip macaroons are amazing
The food was good. I had fish and chips not traditional by any means but good. The cake and pie is where this place shines. They three types we ordered were all fantastic but the carrot cake was exceptional. The service was fast and courteous.
I highly recommend Sage Cafe for an amazing dining experience. We had an amazing lunch with amazing friends.
Everything was amazing! All the food tasted fresh. Had the southwest eggrolls and turkey sandwich. Our server was also amazing.
Cute place. 1st time diners today around 1230pm. Place was at capacity, but only waiting about 5min for a 2 top. Ordered the mini crab cakes for an appetizer, and they were quite good and the sauce provided balanced them well.
I had the chicken salad sandwich on wheat, and my dining partner tried the brisket grilled cheese.
The portions of the full are quite hearty. You can pair the sandwiches with house made kettle chips, in house french fries, potato salad, or a fruit cup.
We chose the kettle chips and fries, and the portion given was generous as well!.
Food was very good, and made fresh, and even though the place was at capacity, we were served in under 30min after our appertizer. We ordered sandwiches, but there is a full menu with salads and entrees as well to try!
Staff was courteous, and knowledgeable, decor is eclectic but clean and updated, and although the noise level is high, it wasn't unbearable. All in all, I'd say it's just what Sherman needs more of. Good, simple plates, quality ingredients, made to order, and modern.
We will for SURE be back!!!
I <3 SAGE!
Super cute little place! The food was delicious and filling! They were also putting fresh flowers out when I came in which added a cute homey feel. They even gave me a free piece of chocolate cake to celebrate their 1 year anniversary. Waitress was also a doll! I will recommend this place to all of my friends!!
5 of us with desert at lunch time was less than $70. Amazing service, friendly staff who were helpful with the menu and choices. Take a look at the photos, pretty cool spot!
This place has amazing food, all from scratch. The portions are huge. I have never gone away hungry. The chicken salad is wonderful with a slight sweet taste. The bacon is cured by them and thick. You can taste the smoke. The people are friendly. Don't go expecting and intimate lunch, it gets loud and crowded.
I’ve lived in places with incredible food (Santa Fe, Los Angeles, New York City), and I feel right at home at Sage Cafe. My favorites are the chicken salad sandwich, the blackened fish tacos, and the quest with brisket. Service is exceptional. They work hard to make incredible food and do it with a smile. This will be my go to place for lunch meetings for years to come.
