You can find Minato Japanese Restaurant at 2697 Spring Rd SE, Smyrna, GA 30080 near the intersection of Cumberland Blvd and Spring Rd, just Northwest of the Perimeter. This terrific restaurant is very under-the-radar, mostly due to its difficult-to-find location - it's in the basement of a short shopping center that holds Papa Johns Pizza, with access from the back (you drive around the side to see a bright red sign, the business extends to form an inviting entry.
If you go on a Friday or Saturday night expect to wait a bit for your food. It is WELL WORTH THE WAIT! Just be patient or make a reservation. The food is very good and fresh. By far one of my favorite places for sushi.
Huge cuts, great service!!!!. I am a sushi snob. I have been eating it since I was 3 and this is THE BIGGEST and BEST sushi I have ever had. Outstanding service, tucked away by a golf store, this is the best sushi in Georgia! They close for a while every summer for vacation and the worst part is waiting in agony for them to get back so we can eat there!!! Love the staff and the food. Best price for what you get!
Minato is a go-to. Second time there this week. I love this little place, right off Spring Road, near the Cumberland Mall. The sushi is always so fresh and the sushi chefs are very helpful. Ordered so much in 2 visits that I can't talk about each dish, but go and order what you like OR let the chef decide for you. Miso soup and seaweed salad are always starters for me and always terrific.
Many other items on the menu, if you prefer your food cooked!
Never ordered drinks here, but I've seen beer, wine, and sake at other tables.
This place is easy to miss. It's behind a little strip shopping center on Spring, right next to what used to be Sonny's BBQ.
Had a ton of food tonight, no drinks, for $32, before tips.
In my never ending quest to find quality Japanese restaurants OTP, I was fortunate to get a recommendation from a gentleman (in Anaheim, CA of all places) for Minato. I thought I had frequented most of the Japanese/sushi joints in Smyrna, but Minato was foreign to me. For those that don't know, Smyrna is home to Metro Atlanta's largest Japanese population, as evidenced by the numerous restaurants and stores that cater to those from the land of the rising sun. Is this the home of Bilbo Baggins or the door to sushi nirvana? Either way, they apparently accept credit cards... Minato is tucked behind a small strip mall off of Cobb pkwy and Spring Rd. (next to the Lexus dealership and the defunct Sonny's BBQ) with little to no signage off the main street…this is probably why I never noticed it before. The restaurant itself is pretty cozy, with a peaceful waterfall feature and extended sushi bar. It's hard not to notice the accolades and pictures of loyal customers as you walk in and wonder
The seafood is the freshest I've tasted in Atlanta. Clean and friendly staff. The food is cooked to order and delicious. Highly recommend if you are into sushi.
The best and freshest sashimi around.
Best taste Japanese food in georgia, the chirashi lunch is a great deal, super crunchy rolls is delicious.

Excellent service, warm reception! Great quality fish and sushi prep and presentation! Super atmosphere. Thank you very much! :)
Awesome place to eat at and enjoy a fine meal. The service was impeccable! Thank you all for great service and great food. I will be back because it's just that great all around.
What can I say, this is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Amazing sushi, amazing value, and the best service you can possibly find. If you are a regular you get the most VIP treatment I can imagine. I have been coming here for 8 years and have spent many thousands of dollars. I always feel like I get every penny's worth.
You know it's something special when 5 cars are parked outside waiting for a restaurant to open, and all of your seating is full within 30 mins of opening. Some of the best sushi you will find OTP, period!!! The couple that run this place are on their A-game for sure, eventhough it's just the 2 of them on the floor, the service is consistantly awesome, despite the place being packed and the phone ringing off the hook with to go orders..... that can't be beat!!! Definitely a must if you're looking for sushi in Smyrna!
I ordered a takeout lunch combination today and was greeted by the same wonderful people as long ago. The sashimi was so fresh and such a generous portion! Scallops teriyaki are a treat that I only enjoy at Minato. Tasty miso soup and crisp ginger salad are included. I enjoyed my experience thoroughly and encourage everyone to support this wonderful restaurant.
