This place serves the absolute BEST Italian I have ever had. Actually, one of the best meals I have ever had. The portions are large. The staff is very friendly too. Good atmosphere. We had the lazagna and a penne in vodka sauce. Then a canoli for dessert. We are definately coming back to try the pizza. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was amazing! Also, the best wait service we have had in South Hill in a very long time! Amanda was a spectacular server during an insanely busy dinner hour. We never waited more than a couple minutes for anything. All the food was hot and delicious!
Amazing! Being a native of South Hill, I know most of the places here are drive-thru fast food for travelers on I-85 between Richmond/Petersburg, Durham, Charlotte and Atlanta- as it is a perfect stopping point.
But- ATTENTION ALL TRAVELERS! Find out what the locals know! Plan to stop here, take your time and eat at Luca's! The food is fantastic! It is family-owned (and yes- they are Italian) and the service is excellent! Joe (the patriarch) is a wonderful man who welcomes anyone and everyone!
From the pizzas, Greek Salad (with Joe's signature dressing) to the pasta (Linguine Shrimp Scampi is to die for!) you will NOT be disappointed!
Highly recommend for any SoVA locals and all travelers! Enjoy!
Outstanding food, excellent service.
We (4 of us) started with appetizers of:
Prosciutto de San Daniele, grilled artichokes, grilled cauliflower, sausage stuffed squid and braised beef tongue.
We followed that with some pasta:
Gnocchi in ox-tail ragù, pasta in Guinea hen ragù and tagliatelle alla Bolognese.
Then we shared a pizza alla Norcia.
After all this we went straight to desert and coffee:
Nardini Grappa, Budino, Gelato, Sorbetto.
What great foodie evening with foodie friends.
This fabulous restaurant has only been open since July 2016 and is a jewel in the rather empty stretch of I-85 south of Petersburg. The decor and ambiance are a bit basic, but the food more than makes up for this minor issue. The portions are generous and food delicious, so skip the appetizer or bring a big appetite. I recommend the latter.
One of the best places to have a meal away from home! The atmosphere, service, and food were AWESOME!

My husband and I were traveling thru South Hill and saw the sign for Luca's so we decided to try it, we was so pleased! The food was great it was enough for us to share a plate and still had leftovers to take on the road with us. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will stop again when I travel through South Hill Virginia. The service and the atmosphere was great also!
My wife and I really like this restaurant. The food is delicious, service great, and the prices are reasonable. We recommend it.

We eat here pretty often....good experience each time! Can't go wrong with the Pizza and salads....but other Italian dishes are also worth the visit!! Only regret is I am always to full for dessert.......
Great restaurant! With much appreciation to the owner for taking time out to drive my husband and I to our hotel after a very delicious meal. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel in ice and snowed roads in low lighted roads that are not pedestrian friendly. I asked one of the workers if there was a better way to reach our hotel from their restaurant. Without a second of hesitation she offered to drive us to the hotel. She went to tell the owner what she was going to do. To our surprise he said I will take you. What a gentlemen. Not only was the food delicious, they went beyond our expectations.
Thank you for a wonderful meal and a heart warming experience.

Lucas is a very warm and welcoming environment not only is it beautiful inside and out but it's absolutely great food and great service wish them the best for the future.
It was absolutely wonderful! It was my first time there. The staff was friendly & they kept checking on us. The food was really good. It was a little cold inside but that didn't bother us much. I would definitely visit again!!

Wasn't the best food but it was good, hot, and fresh. Service was great and it was a very comfortable atmosphere. A few flies but they behaved for the most part. I enjoyed my experience and would return.
Philly sub was loaded with meat and the bread was fresh. The fish sub comes with a seasoned slice of fish. Could use more fish, tomato and mayo. Was dry.
Our waitress however let our glasses run empty and we had to go up and ask for the check.
Needed a spot to eat and rest. Randomly picked this spot and we were glad we did.
The service was great. The food was really good. The pizza hit the spot.
Overall if you are in this area stop by and pick up something to eat you won’t be disappointed!
Stopped here after a day at Buggs Island on the way home. Pizza wasn’t too bad at all! I did enjoy the sauce, it was a fresh sweet tasting sauce. The crust was also really crispy which was good. Definitely enjoyed this spot! Service was great and friendly.
Pretty good standard Italian food. They were opening a little later and they were a real treat for us on the road. We all had pasta with some veggies and some red wine, all of it came out great. The service was excellent. The waitress was really friendly and attentive and never kept us waiting for anything. I really liked the environment also- super cute inside and not too bright! They really have a big menu too- so that’s nice if you’re into that type of thing. We sat in but they offered to go food. You pay your bill at the front counter after you’re done eating.

This restaurant was a pleasant surprise during our recent visit to the area. While most restaurants in the area are fast food or chain like restaurants, this one seemed to be family owned. Every one on staff was friendly and our server went above and beyond. Our server made a few mistakes, however, she was attentive and willing to help. Our main meals were all delicious. My husband had the bowtie pasta and p9nk sauce (a version of ala vodka minus the vodka) with smoked pink salmon and a house salad. The house salad was fresh and ranch tasted homemade. The pink sauce was lacking flavor in my opinion but my husband loved it. I would have definitely needed parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper added to that dish! The veal picatta was much different than any I've ever had, but my mother swears it was the best meal she ever had! I had Blackened chicken pasta Primavera. The sauce was alfredo with squash carrots onion mushroom and penne. We had an order of 10 wings with mild sauce and they were more than delicious... so we ordered another round. I had a Caesar salad which was nothing special but good nonetheless. There was no bread served which was odd. There were many choices to order, so we got bruschetta! It was a good not great, again my opinion. There was a balsamic reduction drizzle atop baguettes thinly sliced with chopped tomato and mozzarella mixture. It just wasn't as robust a flavor as I would imagine those fresh ingredients would provide. Everything was pretty good. There were opportunities to improve.
Oh. My. Gosh. Hands down, the best spaghetti and Italian food I have ever had. Ever. Everything was homemade. My husband said the same about the veal dish he got. You know it’s amazing when you barely even speak while eating except the “Ohhh’s” and “mmmm’s”!! Not only was their food freaking phenomenal, the service was a 10 of 10. I am a server/bartender myself so I tend to nit pick everything. Not here. From the greeting at the door, all the way thru.. way to go Lucas! You are doing EVERYTHING right. We will be back many, many times.
We stopped at Luca's for dinner while traveling with our dog. It was way too hot to leave our dog out in the car, so they kindly let us eat in the outside patio area even though outdoor seating was closed at the time. Service was really prompt. We ordered a pizza (easier when wrangling a dog and a kid), and it was seriously the best pizza I've had in a long time. Our server was so friendly and attentive, coming back to refill our drinks and even bringing us to go cups for the road. I'm honestly so impressed with both the food and service and wish we lived closer so we could come back regularly. FANTASTIC experience!
Pizza was better then okay, but less then the best I have had. What gets Lucas's 5 stars is their servers and their attitude and energy.
They need to clean the place up and add upgrades. They have two bars and one of them has trash around it and literally a trash can sitting on top of it.
Again, great service helped this place get 5 stars versus 2. I hope the owners pay attention to upgrading the decor and the batbrooms.

Lucas's is arguably the best place to get food in the nearby area. If you love Italian food, this is the place to eat. If you don't know what to eat tonight, this is the place to eat. The staff is professional and friendly. The atmosphere is enjoyable. The price is reasonable. The food is delicious.
What a great family restaurant. We stopped here on our way to NC and couldn’t be more pleased. The food was flavorful, fresh, and quick. Everyone around us was friendly and the waitstaff was just as amazing as other reviews mention. I wish we lived closer to make this a regular spot. Thank you for a great dinner!
So delicious. Best authentic Italian place I've ever eaten at. Recommend over anything else. The Garlic Knots were like biting into a cloud. They were soft and just OMG a must have. The Chicken Roll and Chicken Alfredo was soooooo good. We will definitely be going back.
We happened to stay in South Hill while getting scuba certified at lake Phoenix and this was the only restaurant the hotel recommended. We ate here both nights since it was so good. We split the Tour de Italy which was huge and delicious, with an extra salad. Our server, Thelma, was the best! Friendly, great recommendations. Desserts were amazing too! Hope to go back!

We were staying next door at the Fairfield inn (South Hill VA) so the wife said pizza and who am I to to say no to pizza(Im a pizza pie junkie). So I go next door and order a pizza and as I waited some locals came in and ordered food to go. One of the Young lads started a conversation with me so we spoke for several minutes while waiting on our food, my point here is the locals are very nice as well. The pizza was ready, good and hot and very cheesey. I asked for paper plates Because we were at the hotel but they didn't have any so the young lady behind the counter got creative and gave me some aluminum takeout bowls, you know the aluminum kind (hey it worked!). I did take a quick look at the menu and the prices looked pretty good and they had a nice menu selection. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you try anything other than a pizza but definitely try the pizza. Its a cute place and every one that I spoke to that worked there, they were all very nice and polite and thats rare in our world in this day and age, get over there and get some food! #kulinarymafia approved!
