Our family has been to Schooner's for several years now. The food is always fresh and offer several specials. We love their fried shrimp. Great family place but be patient as at times they can be a little slow. Always a friendly welcome.
My wife and friend enjoyed dining here a week ago for dinner. We arrived during peak dinner hours about 6pm on Friday night on our way to Daytona for the racing weekend. We were told it would be about 45 min to an hour wait. We enjoyed visiting and having cocktails with the locals at the bar. Happy hour was still in effect so our tab was very reasonable. After being seated we were off to a extravaganza of delicious fried seafood. The shrimp were large and cooked to perfection. All the condiments and sides were very delicious as well. My wife especially enjoyed the broccoli casserole. We were gorged when we left.
We highly recommend this restaurant and say if you don't want to wait come early!

Good fried seafood. We enjoyed the meal. The service was great very quick. The food was good. I ordered the fried shrimp special $9.29 for a dozen fried shrimp, 2 hush puppies, and a side. Delicious!! The crab poppers for appetizer was very good and the sauce that comes with it was amazing! I recommend to go early like we did. There was a long wait for tables when we were leaving.
We come here anytime we want a lot of really good food for a good price! The broiled shrimp in the butter and spices is my favorite. :)
Was recommended by our hotel and what an awesome place!! We came for the early bird special and arrived at the perfect time. We lived the food and service so much that we came back for lunch the next day. There was a 20 minute wait but well worth it. (Make sure that you plan accordingly if you are coming. It's worth making the plans.). Our food and service was awesome. Every person in the place hustles like mad.

Locals' favorite. Fried shrimp is great- lightly breaded and fresh. Good home cooked food.
Enjoyed the experience. Not a fancy place but a big serving of good food. Prices right and plenty to eat. Most people I saw were leaving with "doggie bags". I usually do not eat hushpuppies but tried theirs and they were great. The stuffed broiled fish was wonderful.

Very good. We were heading to St. Augustine to do some sightseeing. It was a little after 1PM, so we decided to stop for lunch, before going into St. Augustine. What a pleasant suprise it was. I was impressed that you could chose from either the fried or broiled menu. The hushpuppies were excellent. There were four of us, and no one had any complaints.
We live in the Tampa Bay area of Florida, and it was as good as any place we've been to around here.

Go during the week no wait. Fried shrimp very good. Tuesday is steak night and it must be good cause an entire table behind us came just for
steak.
Great place. Clientele was a bit older, but the food was good and service was friendly.
Down home hospitality. Went to Schooners with our extended family on vacation, which included small children and teens (a fete in it's self!). A very casual and clean setting. Staff went out of their to be courteous and patient (with our large order and separate checks). Food came fast and was excellent! Jeff was our server, a true gentleman! Will be back !

Simple. Florida. Seafood.. First off, Schooner's isn't a fancy place. It's not a fine dining restaurant. It's not the kind of place you dress up for. It's not a place you'll find sherry reductions and PEI mussels. It's basically a family-oriented seafood diner and, just like a great diner, what you will find is the best fried seafood in the area. Just like the "native" culture here, it's unpretentious, a bit kitchy, and just simple and delicious. The New England clam chowder is thick and rich, with generous portions of clam. The shrimp is the big star here, lightly breaded, fried perfectly, and the shrimp flavor never gets lost. The hit-or-miss items are the non-seafood entrees and the sides. Sometimes they taste like institutional preparations, sometimes, when using fresh local ingredients, are sublime.
Then there's the chicken.
With cooks deft enough to cook shrimp as well as they do, it's a natural that fried chicken would be excellent as well. Only served on Wednesday night, the fried chicken dinner is superb. Each portion is cooked to order which takes a bit of time, but you are rewarded with hot, steamy, chicken, lightly breaded and juicier than you can imagine. When you have a good bird and a talented cook, you don't need to be bonified or to have secret spice recipes.
This place does get busy, so be prepared to wait if you come at peak times. You can usually bypass the lines if you don't mind eating at the bar.
Seafood on the northside. Schooner's makes up for what it lacks in atmosphere with some very good food. It may not be the best place to go for a quiet leisurely dinner but it would be a great place to take the whole family for some very tasty seafood at a reasonable price. I thought the service was well above average also. This a pretty good value for your seafood dollar.
Worth The drive from Jacksonville. Great shrimp, comparable to O'steens. But, more tables and open seven days/week are a plus for us. Hush puppies, sides and deserts are also very good. Prices are reasonable.
Yum!!! Best local seafood without the 2 hr wait! Nice staff, clean, & your not getting kicked out the door before you finish the last bite... Like another place in town.
Best seafood in town, hands down! Come for the daily "Earlybird Special" if you're on a budget.
