Great food, amazing hospitality. The menu isn't very big, but whatever they have to offer tastes really good. Highly recommend.
AMAZING!
The best plantains I've had in Syracuse and I'm from the Caribbean.
The service was cozy, food was great, and I had a chance to meet the owner. Very nice people.
Park on the other side of the street, and tip well. Will come back for more!
Good place to get something to eat. The service is good, beautiful music, food was good in general special fufu, but fish was not dry enough for me, but it also depends on how everyone likes it. I can't wait to bring my American friends to try some African cuisine.
Congolese food in Syracuse. Imagine! Increasingly, Syracuse is seeing the benefit of recent immigration in the form of restaurants featuring new cuisines. Taste of Africa is one of them. In our two times dining here, we've found the food delightful and the service personable. The tilapia in tomato and pepper sauce with fufu tantalizes your palate. The fried plantains are the best in Syracuse - crisp and sweet, but not overly so. The ribs are also worth trying, while the curry dishes with their distinct central African spicing dance on your tongue. We had a vegan bean dish this time that did not disappoint.
The overall atmosphere has a Third World vibe to it: utilitarian, unpolished, slightly haphazard, plastic utensils, informal bordering on inattentive. The owner greets you like a friend and will recite the fare without giving out a menu. Drinks are in a refrigerated case next to a pool table. Anyway, don't go to Taste of Africa for the atmosphere. It's the food that counts. Prices are neither low nor high - about market rate. I recommend it, especially if you're in for trying a cuisine with which you're not familiar.
So. Good. A little local restaurant that deserves way more attention. If you like authentic food from other cultures, you should be eating here. Frequently.
One of the best places in town to get african food
Amazing food with a cheap price!! The customer service in this shop gave me an amazing experience
It’s a really good local restaurant that deserves wayyy more attention and traffic.
This family restaurant was amazing ..food was great , the vibe in the atmosphere was great…the cooks and the server was great… I love that the food was fresh, well seasoned big portions and inexpensive. Add a live band this will be the spot every weekend . Overall my experience was good it was worth the 2 hour and 6 min drive. So y’all better get there
If you've been to the Taste of Syracuse, then you're most likely familiar with this little "Mom & Pop Shop."
This is by far one of the best family owned restaurants I've been too. People are very quick to judge and have said it's very basic inside and doesn't have much to offer in aesthetic. To me that doesn't matter, the owner built the business from scratch. The food and devotion put into it is what matters most. Never judge a book by it's cover.
The customer service is amazing, the food is well worth the wait, as it is homemade. And the owner, a gentleman nonetheless, a trait we need more of in Syracuse. I'm glad to see they've made it through this pandemic and I look forward to continuing to support this family's growing business. We have too many Chinese restaurants, and not enough of this.
OMG that's all I have to say
Food is always great and consistent if you like food from different cultures this place is a must visit
Chicken with FuFu did not disappoint! I’m hooked! The restaurant is absolutely spotless and the staff is extremely pleasant and helpful. I am looking forward to going for dinner with friends.
Excellent food, outstanding service. I always enjoy the ambiance at The Taste of Africa.
