Best Asian I have had in Tallahassee in a long time. Started with a Samosa. Incredible. Authentic Indian potato based Samosa. Will definitely return.
Fresh, prepared to order, quality Asian cuisine. Tofu is either crisp on the outside or gently sautéed. Prices are fair, and servers are attentive. Tan's has always been a good choice for us. Why not five stars? This is not San Francisco.
The best Asian food in town. The food is always fresh made to order. The prices are far the service is great. I give Tan's Asian Cafe two thumbs up.
Best Asian food in town hands down! Whenever I crave Asian food, I always pick up some food from Tan's. Just thinking about their sesame chicken and pork egg rolls makes me salivate! I can't say enough good things.
Driving through Tallahassee, we decided to stop here because of the reviews and we wanted to try Indonesian cuisine. They have a normal Chinese menu that you find at any other restaurant and then have a distinct section for the Indonesian. I would say the food is mediocre.
We ordered Lumpia, Laksa and Javanese fried rice. The lumpia isn't like the Filipino lumpia, not that I know if there's a difference, but more like a egg roll. It was good though! The laksa had a good curry flavor but the chicken was a bit dry and it was warm not hot like I expected my soup to be. The fried rice was a lot of food with an egg patty on top not a sunny side up egg. While both the laksa and fried rice weren't bad they were just not anything out of this world.
The food here is authentic and delicious. The Indonesian food was comforting and yummy and the lo mein was the best I've ever had. They were not serving sushi which made me sad even though they had it on the menu. Prices were more than I expected seeing as reviews said inexpensive but I wouldn't say that. The owner is super friendly and checked on us often. Atmosphere is lacking but food makes up for it!
Tan's is another of my favorite restaurants in Tallahassee. They have recently expanded their place, and it is much nicer now. The also have several Indonesian dishes, Which is something different for sure. I recommend Tans!
Had the Gado Gado (Indonesian veggie dish with peanut sauce and boiled egg). Different. Excellent. I had always just had the basic Chinese fare at Tans. I think I'll try other dishes off the Indinesian section of their menu.
Good Variety. I tried Tan's for the first time because I wanted something a little different but my mom wanted the standard Chinese-American fare. I got "tahu isi", sweet potato samosa, and gado-gado. Everything was very tasty but the "tahu isi" was especially delicious.
Fresh and yummy. Based on the reviews from Urbanspoon, we ate here as a family this weekend. We have a large family with extremely picky eaters, and not only was food fresh and delicious, it was voted as the new favorite by everyone in our family. We look forward to many more delicious meals.
Best Food in Tallahassee. The Mongolian tofu is justifiably raved about in many of the reviews for Tan's. The beef version is very good, too. But everything I've tasted here has been excellent -- Kung Pao, General Tso's, Pepper Steak. Great prices and a very friendly staff, too.
I eat at Tan's at least once a week. Sometimes two or three times. The Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup is crazy good as is everything else I have had there. Jenny is so kind and personable. The servers are super fast and attentive. This is a hidden gem in Tallahassee amongst all of the bigger restaurants in town. You must check it out if you like Asian cuisine.
Best Asian food in Tallahassee!. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The food was quite possibly some of the best food I have ever eaten. The service was phenomenal. I highly recommend this place, especially to vegetarians and vegans. I am usually left eating something bland or side items at restaurants. The spicy tofu dish and vegan samosa were out of this world. We will be eating here quite often!
Excellent food, great service!. If you LOVE spicy "why did I order something this hot???" food, then you MUST try the Indonesian food, especially the Babi Rica Rica. This place is packed at lunch time and with good reason- it is excellent. Been here a dozen times and food is always fresh and the service is always good.
This is one of my new favorite places to eat in Tallahassee. The service was great and so was the food! Very fresh, authentic Asian food. The prices were awesome. Definitely going back soon!
Outstanding Food. I've been here several times and the food has always been outstanding, my favorite dish has to be the Babi rica-rica. Sometimes it can be a wait for the food but its all worth it.
Large portions and cheap prices. Food is pretty decent. I tried the shrimp with garlic sauce very tasty would've been better if it had some spice.
We liked it!. We tried Tan's and it is very quaint and delicious. Their service is very good and compares to service found in very fine dining establishments. Very fresh and tasty fare. We too will work our way through he expansive menu. I am glad a friend tipped us off about this restaurant. Also, very reasonably priced.
Best Chinese in Town. Best Chinese restaurant in town, hands down. They are also the most skilled at preparing tofu a multitude of ways to the point it's equally as good or better than whatever meat of the dish it's emulating. Very vegetarian friendly, as you can substitute tofu in any dish. The Javanese food is also very flavorful and good. I've tried a good chunk of both their Chinese and Javenese menus and never been disappointed. I eat here almost weekly.
Great food and a great price. The egg rolls are amazing. I tried the kung pau chicken, which was great, and my boyfriend tried three Mongolian beef, also delicious. Definitely want to explore the specials and Indonesian menu next time.
So yummy. This place is amazing. The spring rolls here are so fresh and crunchy that it's ruined all other spring rolls for me!! The prices and menu are the same as any other Chinese delivery place in town, but everything here tastes so fresh and delicious. They also have a new Indonesian menu which is nice and spicy.
Great Soups. Eating our way through the menu, soups are superb. Chock full of ingredients and flavor, not just bland broth. Very filling. Surprised at the sushi menu - tasty too.
Best Asian food in Tallahassee!. Never been to a place in Tallahassee with as much customer service as Tan's! The employees were so helpful and personable, ordering over the phone was really simple. Food was ready in no time and absolutely incredible! Price was reasonably cheap. Great find, can't wait to eat here more often!
Tan's is keeping it real. Truly remarkable restaurants are a rarity, especially among Asian fare. Tan's is truly remarkable. My first meal there was a quick lunch before an appointment. Service was fast and friendly and the take home was savory. I ordered sweet and sour chicken. For so long I have been disappointed by the over-sweetened sauces and deep fried batter pieces of other local offerings. This meal was an exception. To start with, the hot and sour soup was the best I've had. It tasted fresh, and the spice was just right. The sweet and sour sauce was not the typical bright red sugar syrup, rather it looked dull red and tasted of fresh spices. The battered chicken was moist and the plate was devoid of the many bits of battered sans chicken.
I was so impressed, that I made my way there for dinner take out later that evening, this time opting for the Mongolian beef, shrimp fried rice, chicken in garlic sauce (for lunch and dinner left overs the next day), and a spicy tuna roll. Every entree was exquisite and fresh, even reheated to eat later.
While I stayed with the Chinese menu, I plan to explore the Indonesian menu next visit, as this is the origin of their cooking. Every meal I've had so far tasted "home cooked." It's my new favorite.
BEST RESTAURANT EVER. Tan's Asian Cafe has the best spring rolls, best tofu, nicest staff ever and is all around amazing. You want to go to there.
BEST EVER. Best asian food ever. I took my parents when they visited and they talk about it all the time. Definitely my weekly outing.
OMG!! SO GOOD!!. I received a gift certificate to Tan's and I swear it was a gift from the God's!!! I am a huge Chinese fan and am disappointed a lot with places around town. The first thing I loved was the service over the phone and in person when I got there. They were very nice and attentive and made suggestions for when I try their Indonesian food. We ordered food for my office and we were all impressed. They even do home made eggrolls. That blew me away. SO, needless to say, I will be back and Tan's. SO, SO, SO glad I went there and found a gem!!

Babi Rica-Rica Rocks. Stopped into Tan's and noticed they had some new decor and an expanded Indonesian menu. I decided to try the Babi Rica-Rica which is pork in a spicy red sauce. I got it to go and despite ordering at the height of the noon rush I was in and out in less than 10 minutes.
As for the food, the pork was tender and as billed, very spicy. It came with a large scoop of rice, two cucumber slices and a chunk of lemon. A bag of fish flavored crackers came with the meal (I snacked on them by themselves).
Overall, everything had a great flavor and at under $7 (before taxes), Tan's is a great value for lunch.
Wonderful!. Who would have guessed that the best Chinese food in Tallahassee would be located in a strip mall. This tiny place, has only about 15 tables and limited decor, but the food is amazing. First of all....no all you can eat buffet...always a plus in my book. Second, even though the menu is quite typical, the quality and taste of the food certainly is not. The prices are very reasonable and the portion sizes are large enough to save for lunch the next day. The cheese wontons with plum sauce should not be missed. I can't wait to visit again and try new menu items. I am so happy that I found this place. It is convenient to work, so that I can slip out for a quick lunch or pick up dinner on the way home.
Hands down, the best Chinese food in Tallahassee. Everything is fresh, filling and delicious! The staff is attentive and friendly, and always recognize return customers. The place endearingly shabby yet clean, but each time I go back, the presentation is nicer. Definitely one of my favorite places in town to go to.
Wonderful Place to Eat!. My husband and I absolutely love Tan's Asian Cafe. There are a wide variety of food options, all of which taste good. Everything is always good quality. Additionally, the service is fast and the people are always so friendly. If you're in Tallahassee, I'd definitely recommend stopping by.
Amazing Chinese food!. The regular menu is pretty the same as any Chinese place, but everything tastes SO GOOD. They also have plenty of specials of Indonesian and Balinese food, which never disappoint, but I always go back for one thing: The Mongolian Tofu. My fiance was a huge lover of their Mongolian Beef, but when the tofu was recommended to us, I lit up and insisted, and now he won't go back to the beef (not that it's bad-- it's actually quite good-- but the tofu is amazing).
Also very impressive: the sesame balls, the spring rolls, and definitely the the egg drop soup, which in other places always seems to be corn-starchy, but is always perfect here. The portions are huge.
(yes, it is lacking ambiance, get over it, the food is amazing)
Just moved into the neighborhood and am delighted to have discovered Tan's Asian Cafe. Authentic Indonesian food that's delicious. Friendly atmosphere, relaxed, quick!
Very clean, good food, no frills, nice people. I'll have to bring my husband back.
Wonderful service, great food, very happy friendly people working there! And it's cheap!! :)
Love It!. Great tofu dishes! The tofu anystyle lunch special is an awesome deal!
Best Asian food in Tallahassee. Seriously, who doesn't LOVE Tans!? Mongolian Tofu and Avocado Bubble tea for life.
Great food just too damn expensive!. Everything on the menu has been jacked up almost $2 this is highway robbery you can use it Lucy Ho's AZU !!!!!! I'm boycotting to they lower the prices
-----05 Apr, 2015-----
The prices have gone way up!!. You can almost eat cheaper at Lucy Ho' s AZU......I think after tonight I won't be eating here again just too damn high!!!!!!

THE BEST ASIAN FOOD IN TALLAHASSEE!. I have eaten here for over the past three years and everytime I have been there... great **SEERVICE** ! They make you feel at home! I rate them 5/5 stars! Now go when there open! Try the Java rice! an tangerine tofu!
Great tofu, a little slow but worth the wait. we eat the tofu at least once a week, my omni boyfriend craves it.. and normally hates tofu.
Best Chinese food in town!. Tan's looks just like the other fast-food type Chinese restaurants, but their food is far and away better. Even if you are not a tofu person, I dare you not to LOVE the Mongolian fried tofu. I am not a vegetarian, vegan anything. I tried the Mongolian beef, and it just doesn't measure up to the tofu.
Lots of well prepared food at good prices. Delivery is also good.
Good food in Tallahassee.... Love the boneless spare rib appetizer - large enough helping to be an entrée, good stir fry vegetables, spicy beef excellent... so glad we have this quirky little place in this town, there are just not enough good food spots here.
Pretty typical food. Prices and quality are okay. Good service.
Wonderful small Asian restaurant. The food is simply great. I personally do not care for Mongolian beef, and that is my favorite dish at Tan's.
Freshest Takeout In Tallahassee. If you are looking for REAL asian food: a colorful variety of crisp, fresh vegetables, delicious authentic soups and noodles and quality service, look no further than Tan's. Our favorites: egg foo young, mei fun, chicken rice soup, moo goo gai pan and spring rolls. They were the best spring rolls we have ever had. The mei fun was perfect- fresh, flavorful noodles, loaded with vegetables. They have a huge menu with all the standards, but if you try something new you won't be disappointed.
Excellent vegetarian food! We male a point of eating here whenever we visit Tallahassee.
Yummm. This place could quite possibly be the best asian food in Tallahassee. I heard about this little hole-in-the-wall place through a friend and definitely had some trouble finding it the first time, but have been back to visit several more times. This place has never let me down. They have a huge menu and everything I've tried is pretty darn good.
Wonderful vegetarian fare. Tofu in any style, made to order, and some vegan soups. Make sure to try General Tso's tofu! Very affordable and plentiful, nice staff.
Yummy sushi. I ordered delivery the other night...it was the only sushi place I could find that delivers. I ordered 3 different rolls and they were all really good. The tempura roll was the best. The rolls were relatively inexpensive and they give you a good amount (around 18 pieces per roll). I highly recommend.
Great Chinese restaurant, poor Japanese restaurant.. Excellent Chinese food. They should reconsider offering sushi though. No one's going to come to this restaurant just for the sushi. And if they do, then they won't be coming back for it. Es no good. To be fair, I've only had one item from their sushi menu, the tsunami roll. (The inclusion of imitation crab meat, instead of the traditional salmon, scared me off of my usual stand-by, the Philly roll.) I've never gotten so much sushi for $6.95 before, but I've never been so underwhelmed by sushi at any price before either.
The quality and portions of their Chinese dishes are top notch for a place like this. There's nothing fancy and exotic here, like sea horse kabobs, or fried scorpion, or roasted spider testicles. Nothing like that. Just the same menu items you'll find at every other Americanized Chinese joint -- General Tso's chicken, beef and broccoli, etc. But Tan's does Chinese very well, and when they bring you your order you'll be scrambling to recall whether or not you ordered the family size portion instead of the individual. A single order from Tan's can be stretched into three meals for most people I know. My order of cashew chicken only made it to two meals with me though. Forgot to refrigerate it. So it was two meals for me, one for my dog. We both loved it.
Generous and Delicious. The food you get is unbelievably plenty. Each time I eat there, I always have to ask for to go boxes.
Some are standard in term of taste. Some are really delicious. The workers are very nice and friendly
I especially like Mongolian tofu and Tamarind beef and salt & pepper shrimp.
Best Asian Food. Tan's is really good. It doesn't look like much because it's very small, but the food is great! You can order any style tofu (General Tsao and Salt and Pepper are my favorites!), and it comes with Fried Rice (you can order no egg!!!) or white rice, and veggies. The bubble teas are all delicious. Hot and Sour soup and spring rolls are awesome. Good lunch special, daily till 3PM.
Amazingly delicious, food is prepared fresh and fast. The staff is always on top of their game and incredibly friendly. 10/10.
Everything is fresh, cooked well, and at a great price. Support local buissnesses!
I am very picky about Chinese/Asian food because I love it so much. Tan's has amazing food at a low price and the employees like Richard are very efficient and nice. I highly recommend the Wonton soup and the Cream Cheese wontons.
Tan’s is the kind of place that makes me very happy. For one thing, I occasionally enjoy going completely crazy on spicy food, and Tan’s is just the place for that sort of behavior. This started out as a matter of family pride for me; my dad, after all, used to claim that our family motto was, “If you didn’t sweat, you didn’t eat!” (I’m pretty sure that was just something he made up in order to justify his large collection of absurdly hot Indian pickles, but you could do far worse in the family slogan department, all things considered.) More recently, a friend of mine in Chicago once ate a plate of food so spicy that his picture is now on the wall of a Thai restaurant, purely out of respect. So with these sort of role models, it probably isn’t surprising that I often find myself entreating servers at restaurants to make it a bit hotter than you think a customer would want. Well, to a level that is unique around town, Tan’s delivers on this front. But it isn’t just a question of heat a

Sandwiched between a garden center and a variety of lawn ornaments sits Tan’s Asian Cafe. The first time I noticed it I was helping a friend pick up a lawnmower part during my lunch break, and this afternoon I headed over for a quick lunch.
One of the better Chinese takeout places in Tallahassee. The prices are better than a lot of places, and the portion was what you would expect. The General Tso’s was good, with a nice balance of sauce that left the chicken with a good crunch to it. Of all the takeout only type places in Tallahassee this one has been the best so far!
I ordered for pickup and wanted to eat my food inside the restaurant since it’s hot outside and I wanted to be out the office for lunch. When I realized they don’t allow that I was not happy but went about my business. I was upset enough that I considered writing a bad review. However, while I wasn’t happy I couldn’t eat it at the restaurant the food was amazing! I had the Lunch special cashew chicken with hot and sour soup (their lunch specials come with soup). The cashew chicken and fried rice was very good and tested fresh. I’m usually disappointed with hot and sour soup because it’s my favorite and I have high expectations for it but hot and sour soup was on point. Some of the best I’ve very had.
Probably the best Chinese food in Tallahassee. "Philly" took the time to explain differences in the foods we were looking for and explained some regional changes to expect. In short, if you enjoy Chinese food and have a general curiosity about different styles and tastes, I can't recommend anywhere else to start. Don't neglect the sauces and spice things up a bit. They even had knowledge about Filipino, Japanese, and Indonesian dishes. A local treat. Hopefully their dining room returns.
A tip I almost forgot, if your looking for another version of pork fried rice Tans doesn't offer, buy a pint, chop up the pork, add chives, and add additional soy sauce as you fry it again lightly at home!
Ordered from Tan’s for the first time from DoorDash. The food was really good but we didn’t receive any sauce for our appetizers or entrees. This to me was disappointing as first impressions are important and we ordered from here from one of their competitors and they fell a little short of what our expectations were.
It appears that their dining room is closed. The food here is not cheap, but it is delicious. I also found that the portions are huge! They really pack each to go container to the brim.
Its my favorite place in Tallahasse for “fast pan-Asian” food. The owner is also very personable and charming.
First time ordering from here. Lovely woman attended to me, food tastes great and service was great as well. Had the tangerine chicken combination platter, and I was not expecting much, the the tangerine chicken was amazing. And I have 5o add, best egg spring roll I've had in a long time.
I work right by this place, so I stop here for lunch pretty often. The food is fresh, it is well flavored. The Thai soup is amazing! the Mongolian tofu is the best tofu you will ever eat! I highly recommend this place, and it doesn’t have MSG like a lot of other Chinese restaurants. (No MSG bloat) It is more towards the Thai flavoring with being run by Indonesians. Try it out!
Casual place. Friendly staff. Good food. We had "Salt and Pepper Tofu" and "Skewered Chicken". I love the tofu. The chicken was good but it was seasoned with authentic Indonesian seasoning. It was not quite my taste. Good and cecent meals for reasonable prices.
10 out of 10. This has consistently been the best Chinese food in town for the last 5 years. I can’t believe I’ve not written a review before. We’ve had the spring rolls, egg rolls, teriyaki chicken, vegetable fritters, cheese wontons, sweet and sour chicken, soups, general tsos chicken, all the fried rice, le mein and the Japanese noodles. Everything is delicious and made fresh. The staff is super friendly and helpful and answers any questions you have. It is a true ‘hole in the wall’ and they only offer take out currently, but it’s a must for us at least once a month.

I loved the food here!
I decided to try some items off their Indonesian menu just because I have never tried Indonesian before. I had the Beef in coconut milk with Balinese sauce and it was so good. Normally, I would take home left overs but I overstuffed myself on the food. I also had a stuffed Tofu appetizer. That was also pretty good. I liked the contrast in texture. You had this super crispy outside with the Tofu inside, which is creamy then the vegetables in the middle. The sauce just rounded it out as well. The spice level was very chill and just brought flavor to the dish as opposed to heat, which is always appreciated when I am trying something for the first.
Price was very reasonable for quantity and quality received as well.
Highly recommended!!
TLDR: Hands down, best Asian takeout in Tallahassee and top 5 Asian Cusine overall in the area. Personal favorite: Mongolian Tofu
Though they scaled back the menu and changed to takeout only during and post covid, it is still an easy recommendation. I have frequented for years and have tried most of the menu at this point and haven't been disappointed. Ms. Tan is there often, and she is the sweetest, most pleasant person to deal with. I have been offered free items on the rare occasions that they have been backed up and my food wasn't ready on time. The Mongolian tofu is a true highlight for me and remains my go-to. When there were no other good Asian places in town, there was always Tan's!
Always an all around great experience! 2 years later (2.26.2022) and the food is still good. Yet some of our fave dishes from before have been removed from the menu. This time we asked for spicy veggie lo mein with extra broccoli... They only forgot the spicy peppers! Still yummy...
Hands Down The Best Asian Restaurant, The Food is great and so is the Atmosphere. The staff is also very friendly, The Prawns are big and are deveined, which is a plus in my Book. They have really Good Salt and Pepper Shrimp and a very tasty Mongolian Beef. The restaurant is also clean, The Buffet is small, but packs a punch. You won't be disappointed.
Sadly, there is no seating here. It is take out only, but the food is good, and the couple who work there are very nice. Highly recommend the fried dumplings!
Found another good asian food - with authentic indonesia cuisine!
1) vegan samosa
2) Bakmi goreng with chicken ( Javanese stir fry noodles)
3) daging bumbu bali ( Balinese beef)
We love all the food even it dont have fancy display. But it is so delicious!
We will plan to revisit to try other Indonesian food
