Love Hopkins, just not the Market St. location. I love Hopkins and have been going there for years. I've enjoyed all of their turkey and veggie sandwiches. That being said, I prefer the Monroe and Capital Circle locations over the Market St. location for several reasons. A few years ago they remodeled it and the layout ended up being much worse. The service is slower, the bathroom has been nasty more than once, there's nowhere for the waiting line to go, sometimes people block the drink machines or the second room entirely, and people also block the to-go counter, and it's turned into a chaotic mess of families with kids for some reason so finding a quiet spot to sit in the cacophony of noise is near impossible. It's a whole different experience at the other two locations where the service is lightning fast, the layout is not a problem, the bathrooms and tables are always clean, and there are less kids swarming around. If you've gone and found the Market St. location unpleasant give the other two a chance.
Great fresh food. The sandwiches are overflowing with fresh ingredients, desserts are heavenly. OK, the side orders are bagged chips, but they add a nice crunch to the meal. Consistently good, basic food to enjoy.
Delicious. I have been to Hopkins several times now and it has always been good. They even let us eat our soup while they were still making our sandwiches. Very nice people and delicious.
NEW LOCATION. Hey! I see that Hopkins Eatery is now also located on Capital Circle SE in the 'old' Wal Mart shopping center.
ITS A TREASURE!!!!. Maybe its a generational thing. My friends and I have always found this to be our favorite place to meet for lunch. Great food which is what you go for. My two favorites are the Linda Special and The Guac. And no, you can't go home and duplicate it for any price. I've tried. It's a one-of-a-kind special place that many, many long-time Tallahasseans have grown to love. Pic your fav sandwich and get one of their fabulous desserts and you'll be a very happy person. I promise.
Like it but barely.... Hopkins is a quandary. On one hand, the sandwiches are on the whole pretty good; confusing, but good. I say confusing because some of them seem to be experiments in how many disparate ingredients can actually fit on the bun without imploding. The atmosphere is also confusing; sometimes, the people are very nice, sometimes they are as rude as possible without losing the title of 'host' completely. It is *not* family friendly, not often very clean. It is very very busy for lunch and not at all recommended (that's when they're at their snippiest). The cake, no matter its flavor, is the thing of dreams (I oftentimes have weird flashback cravings...) I hope this review is confusing, because Hopkins certainly is.
Great Humming Bird Cake!. Basically Hopkins is my staple for Humming Bird Cake and their parmesean dressing that they'll put on almost any sandwhich. The one complaint...I don't really care for the breads they use.
Blackbird Fan. I have been eating the "Blackbird" for half of my life and I don't expect to stop anytime soon. I love this place
Yumm. My favorite place to get a great sandwich in Tallahassee
Sweet Tea & Bourbon ~ Mike Bonfanti
+4.5
The meat and cheese were piled high. The mushroom added a nice bit of earthiness to the sandwich. The parmesan dressing and cheese added another layer of flavor to the sandwich which made it more than a normal turkey sub. The sandwich was a little messy to eat, but by the time I was done there was nothing left but a few stray pieces of lettuce. Thankfully I still had enough room to polish off one of Hopkins’ delicious Congo bars.
In my opinion, there are just 3 components that make up a good deli: Fresh Ingredients Inventive Combinations A little bit of chaos Hopkins Eatery happens to have all three. I don't know how they do it, because they have about a GAZILLION ingredients, but
Great sandwich place with paper plates and gas-station coffee but decent sandwiches with fresh meat and veggies. Meatloaf sandwich was delicious but smothered beef sandwich was too salty.
I'd give a thousand stars if I could. I grew up in Tallahassee and loved eating here. Now that I've lived all across the country in the last 2 decades, this is always my first stop when I come back to tally for a visit. There isn't a comparable restaurant anywhere in my opinion.
i really loved the corned beef reuben i got here ! i went with a friend and i got the reuben with chips and a hello dolly bar, and she got the corn chowder with a blondie. everything was really tasty, and the corn chowder had a great flavor, but my favorite was definitely the reuben, everything on it was perfect. the desserts were great too, hello dolly was my favorite of the two though, i loved the coconut! also, they have a really charming logo, i’m a big fan, would wear on a shirt. definitely recommend, and it was all a really good price :)
My absolute favorite local sandwich shop!! I love every single sandwich on the menu. I've tried at least 10 sandwiches, and loved every single one. I always look for ones with their house dressing, which is delicious! I can actually remember my mom bringing me the Zorba or the Hawaiian as a special treat to my elementary school cafeteria, like 20+ years ago, and I've loved Hopkins ever since! Also, their mint sweet iced tea is probably my favorite drink, maybe ever.
✨I Adore Hopkins Eatery!✨
I have been eating here for nearly a decade, and the food has never disappointed! The Chicken Tetrazzini salad is to die for, and their soup and half-sandwich combos are the perfect amount of food for your midday meal needs.
This place is like a piece of my childhood and I am thrilled that it has continued to succeed and thrive thru Covid-19 and inflation.
Out of this world food. Get the house dressing. I recommend the chicken tetrazini salad. Or anything really. It's all good
STOP THE CAR!!!!! This is a must eat place. My mom brought my oldest daughter and myself here as a special day out. I ordered the Black Bird on a poppyseed roll. Out of this world amazing. The flavor profile is my new favorite. I do not normally eat raw onions but they really made this sandwich. Everything just “worked”. I wish I had a location near me in Atlanta.
Cute eatery with standard sandwich and deli options. Really good desserts baked in-house. Ultimate Turkey is go-to sandwich
Best sandwich shop in Tallahassee! Love how you can build a custom sandwich. Very friendly staff and fast service. No wonder Hopkins has been around as long as I've been alive.
Food was nice but I love the person that help me out (his name was Tyler Schnittker) was phenomenal
Always my go-to place when I want to impress friends and family from out of town. Plus, a place I go just for myself because the sandwiches and salads are to die for. And if I'm good, I treat myself to a congo bar!
The meatloaf sandwich special and split pea soup are delicious…homemade goodness
Best soups in town! Tastes as good as homemade, since they make them onsite. Especially on a cold day.
Sandwiches are always good (and large), as well as the salads. Try the meatloaf sandwich, it's fantastic.
Love the spearmint sweet tea, it's the best ever!!!
Almost forgot, they have lots of dessert choices too, also made there. Worth every penny!!
I came in during the lunch rush. The service was fast and friendly. The dinning area was neat and clean, the soda fountain area was well stocked with cup lids, straws, and napkins.
Great fresh and delicious sandwich. Good sized portions.
Hands down the best iced tea in town! Good sandwiches decent salads and lots of options made to order. Simple ingredients and preparation, but sometimes that's just what you want.
Don't miss out on the toffee brownies
I have been eating at hopkins eatery multiple times and at a few of their locations. Every time i get the tuna melt, it tastes the same- DELICIOUS. The taste is consistent and I am never disappointed. it actually tastes really good warmed up. I Highly recommend this place for a hearty sandwich. I usually need two seatings to finish one sandwich because it is made so full. I really appreicate that they load it up.
One of my favorite local lunch spots in town
