I was in town on business this week, and last night we tried out this place. It's insane. First of all, the atmosphere is pretty cool. The staff was very friendly. I had a couple of Moscow Mules along with the Mushroom Risotto which I added scallops to. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for good drinks, an excellent meal, and ESPECIALLY if you're in town staying along the river walk...if you want to get out of corporate blah for a bit and venture a mere 4 miles out, it's well worth it. I will go back to this place if I'm back in the Tampa area. Go to there. Go now.
The place was amazing. Our waitress was even better! Forgot her name but she had long blonde hair. It was me & a friend of mine trying different thing. The waitress was so nice. Even had the chef split it on 2 plates. If in ever in the area, I will be back. Oh food was amazing too. Try the lamb chops & short rib egg rolls.

717 South is a Hyde Park gem. An inventive menu, friendly service, lively bar, interesting and unique menu and great atmosphere. The pork Chop and flatbreads excellent. The macaroni with subtle hints of bacon is delicious. Great deco art on the walls, a real treat.
So I've been in Tampa for about a year now and have eaten at a lot of great restaurants thus far...absolutely nothing compares to 717. The food; forget about it. And the service; if you're fortunate to get Anthony then you'll know why this place is the best of what south Tampa has to offer....thank you Anthony for an amazing dining experience; the food, the service...everything. It absolutely made our night!
Had never tried the Escargot at 717 before but it was incredible. It was so tender and buttery, it had me contemplating a 2nd order. The pistachio crusted lamb chops were on point as always. Really enjoy the affordable wine selection. Nice bottle of Cab for under $40.
Every time we go to 717 South the meal and service are first class and tonight was no different. We'll be back again soon!
So impressed with our meal, from drinks-appetizers-dinner, everything was to die for!! I haven’t stopped talking about my dinner there! Can’t wait to go back ASAP!!
The atmosphere and the people here are amazing. The owner is a real gentleman. The bartender was super sweet, and very good. The lasagna and risotto were delicious, the drinks as well. We will definitely come back!
My favorite intimate spot for risotto. Food, service and ambiance are all wonderful. Also, some great art adorning the walls.

The BEST lamb I've had! About $50... Flavor was even better than Burn's Steakhouse. 2 other people got the grouper and stated it was the best they ever had. I admire the chef's attention to detail when it comes to plating. The food not only looked amazing but tasted amazing! 10 outta 10 would recommend.
We had a party of 6 for a birthday celebration. Our service and food were excellent! The restaurant decor is very nice. The only change I would make would be their choice of music. Maybe to switch it up would be nice. Thank you for a nice evening !

Update: We brought the family here for our Christmas Eve dinner. Food was delicious and the service was great. The only "issue" was that we booked our reservation on Open Table, and a few hours before our reservation the restaurant called saying Open Table booked us for a table that didn't exist. They offered us seats at the bar, which at that time we told them we have a 4 and 8 year old in our party. They managed to squeeze us in at a table, but said we needed to be out by 7:45pm. It was slightly irritating, but we made it work! The wagyu and grouper were very tasty.
What a great place! We were looking to try a new restaurant and happened to stumble upon 717 South in Hyde Park. We were able to be seated promptly upon our arrival. The inside has a lot of character, from the brick walls throughout the restaurant to the decor, it provides a warm and inviting atmosphere. We were tucked away in a corner booth, which was nice. Anthony was our server and we can't say enough wonderful things about him. He was friendly and checked on us frequently, and assisted with cocktail selections. The food and cocktails were delicious! We shared a plate of edamame and enjoyed lasagna and a filet for the main course. Everything was cooked perfectly! My husband said it was the best cucumber gimlet he's had! The desert menu looked scrumptious, but we were both too full. Definitely be back!
This place is the absolute best! We called in 5 minutes before arriving and they had our table set up and ready for us when we arrived. From the service, food, staff and atmosphere everything was 5 stars!
We came to celebrate a birthday and we were not disappointed the appetizers were delicious the food was amazing the drinks were on point and our server Anthony was the best will definitely return. Thank you for such an awesome experience
I came here for a work dinner and we had a great experience! The service was fantastic and the food great. Everything, for the most part was flavorful and arrived fresh and without delay from the kitchen. I recommend the Brussel sprouts!!
We've got ourselves an enjoyable little restaurant here. Easy parking behind the building, the atmosphere is welcoming and the booths are quite comfortable. Staff seemed a little bit busy for a lazy Sunday, but they were still friendly. Appears to be a full bar with plenty of seating. Outdoor seating is available as well. The chicken and pork chop plates were both quite good, although the chicken was probably the best. After my entree and appetizer, I was still hungry. Had to go home and eat a banana and some grapes, so maybe the portions could be slightly larger. There is an ample dessert menu for those who like sweets.
Brunch was great. Coffee was strong and smooth. Service was fast. Apple pie French toast was decadent. Chicken biscuit and gravy was savory. Will definitely be back. 8.1/10
So happy I tried this place out. The food is great, atmosphere is good, and the service was amazing. Haley did an amazing job taking care of us last night! The mushroom risotto was delish and the cucumber basil gimlet was so refreshing! Definitely will be back, 10/10.
So so good. Best risotto I’ve ever had in my life! Top it with chicken or shrimp for an even better taste. Burger and macadamia nut chicken amazing also. Everything so fresh.
Went for brunch. Food was good. Service was really slow & they weren’t that busy. Most of my party ordered the shrimp & grits, and had no complaints. 717 Benedict was okay. Didn’t care for the flavor of the short rib. Overall, I’d try again for dinner.
We came here on a Friday night and had a great experience despite being seated 30 minutes after our reserved time. We ordered an assortment of appetizers that included the Brussel sprouts, lobster mac & cheese, the risotto balls, the calamari and the sashimi blue tuna tartar. Food, drinks and service were all great!
Just had Brunch here, never been before. I am glad we came .Food was good and the service was AMAZING! I ordered the chicken biscuit with gravy and home fries, this was based on the server’s recommendation and I wasn’t disappointed. My husband ordered the Butcher and Block it was an omelette substituted with egg whites. It also had bacon, pork sausage, and pork belly and came with a side of home fries. The food was great and the server, Blake was very attentive and knowledgeable. We will be back and will ask for Blake in the future!
Our waitress was very knowledgeable and very friendly. Went out of her way to make sure that we had a great experience and of course the food in the atmosphere work amazing definitely a place to check out. We will be back

717 South is delish!!! Their pork chop dinner is my favorite cooked perfect. The cabbage with the bacon and cream what can I say I’d go there just for that. The garlic bok choy was not to impressive. However I’m get to try the salmon dish with it in it maybe that will be different with the other flavors involved. The cornbread is also a must try as well as the beet salad such flavors and textures. It can get quite loud in there at times, I try to request a table in the back because it’s hard to talk sometimes. I prefer to book my reservations online just to be sure as it’s in south tampa, and I’ve seen it pretty busy. They also hold events. Personally I wouldn’t offer a special event geared directly at the bar which is literally between the walking space of the bar and kitchen. Makes it difficult to get walk through to get seated. Good parking never had issues even on a Friday night. The bad….. actually can’t say anything bad the staff has always been friendly service is good. I had one issue one night with an under cooked dish. The pork chop of course. Mind you that’s why I go there what can I say creature of habit. Between trying to get my server and having it fixed took some time but it was corrected. Unfortunately everyone me and my hubby were on a date, and I wasn’t going to let his food get cold waiting for me. They fired a whole new chop so it took time. I believe the head server possibly came over to help because they could see the awkwardness of me just sitting there. They offered free dessert which we were trying to decline not because we didn’t want to but because we were on a diet. We had our wedding coming up…. That dress had to fit lol….. but they were adamant to “make it right” so we bit the bullet. What’s one cheat night. Other than that it’s always been great and we definitely go as many times as we can.
One of the best snapper dishes that I have ever had. The ingredients were fresh and cooked to perfection and the desert was very well prepared and sweet and rich. I can highly recommend 717 for fresh American fare.
Great service and food was so good from the appetizer to the cocktails to the main course! Would definitely recommend! Warm and inviting atmosphere also.
