Consistent. Good food and a nice selection of different tacos. Very creative and you can choose different ones so you can try different tacos. Great sides. Kid friendly, casual and a nice atmosphere. Reasonably priced as well and good service. I have been here many times and it is consistently good. I leave full knowing I will be back.
Surf Shack has become my go-to place for mac & cheese lately. The filet with mushrooms and onions is my favorite, but the spinach, bacon & goat cheese is pretty tasty too. The filet is unbelievably tender and the addition of the crunchy haystack onions on top gives the dish that little bit of texture it needs. The pasta is perfectly cooked with a creamy Monterey jack & American cheese blend. While I’m going the decadent route, Loren leans toward their salads. This time he chose the chicken & walnut salad.
Great food and atmosphere. We found the Surf Shack and we are glad we did! The food and atmosphere are great. It's a nice laid back place, we always sit in the outside patio and enjoy the nice breeze and music the food, like everyone else has said, it's phenomenal, specially when you consider the price. Every single thing we have ordered has been delicious. From the Orange chicken bowl, to the sliders to the tacos. And the price is just right. We haven't yet come for the happy hours but that is in the plans. Only drawback is the mixed drinks are weak, but they make it up with a half decent beer selection and very good margaritas.
A very delightful place to eat. Service is excellent and food is incredible. I really enjoyed the salmon n crab cake sliders and the wings.
Love the tacos!. I love it here! I keep coming back for more, and am working my way through the many different taco options they offer (which are awesome, by the way). It's a place that my friends and I keep going back to because the food is delicious AND affordable, and the service is great!
This place is amazing! I love their mushroom and steak quesadilla and shrimp tacos! I cannot wait to go back. Highly recommend this restaurant!!!
Just GO!. Run, don't walk. The terrific food, specials and great staff are just three of the many reasons you must visit Surf Shack! 2$ taco night rules, especially when they are willing to also offer happy hour and endless amounts of the best salsa I've ever had. Just get there and if it's 50 cent wing Wednesday- Try the Thai Chile wings!
Good Food, Service & Atmosphere!. Just had our second visit and again came away impressed with the casual vibe, great service, and delicious food. There's plenty of variety on the menu without it being overwhelming. Fantastic salsa is served with chips and the quesadillas have flaky, crisp tortillas rather than the soggy or overcooked shells at most places. Fish tacos are not to be missed and all the food is prepared with fresh veggies and some of the best sauces we've tasted. Highly recommend it!
Fun Atmosphere. Not enough meat free options for me, but we enjoy the atmosphere and my husband likes their burritos. It's nice to have the free chips and salsa to start and the service has been good each time we've visited. I just order one of the burritos with the meat on the side.
Great food! Cheap as well! Def coming back here! Nice relaxed environment too!
What a pleasant suprise! We havent been back to the old restaurant that was there since last winter, so when we saw the new one in its place we were very excited. Our server was one we remembered from the old restaurant.
We loved the bbq wings, and nachos. Filet mignon tacos were better than I remembered, and the orange chicken bowl is outstanding.
A very cool vibe and laid back feel also.
All i can say is wonderfull addition to the neighborhhod!
Nice initial feel. Went to Surf Shack for lunch today with my son (age 3). The open casual feel of the space is quite nice. They have a huge rollup door that opens to the outdoor seating area, and with the high roofs and beachside decor you do get a feel of being much closer to the water than Westchase. My son kept pointing and commenting on the big water feature over the bar area which does add to the beach feel of the place. They start you off with chips and salsa that are actually a pretty decent appetizer on their own. The corn tortilla chips are seasoned and it gives them a nice flavor that goes well with the salsa although I thought the salsa on its own was a little sweet. They have about five choices on the children's menu for $3.95 including chicken tacos, beef tacos, mac & cheese,,, and a couple more I don't remember. My son had the chicken tacos with a side of "tropical" fruit. The chicken was nicely flavored and very juicy, and he ate it right up. One note is that the children's meals do not include a drink, that was an extra $1.59. I had their shrimp tacos (waitress recommendation) and thought they were very good, lots of shrimp and very tasty. All of the entrees come with "Island Slaw", and the portion was pretty small, almost a garnish. My first bite of the slaw I thought it had too much of a vinegar flavor, but it grew on me after a couple of bites,,, and then it was gone. You can swap out the slaw for another side for $.99. The taco meal was $6.95, and most entrees are under $10.
Overall a pleasant experience and we will go back again.
Surf Shack,,, Nice. The folks here have done a nice job remodeling. The flowing water Surf Shack sign behind the bar is very cool.
So... the food... I went on a Thursday night. $2 tacos and there are 10 to chose from.
First the Longboard Fish taco - Beer battered cod, chipotle sour cream, surf slaw and pico de gallo. Nice piece of cod, and pretty good. I had to add hot sauce despite the chiptle sour cream. But it was a good fish taco.
Second, the Surf and Turf - Steak, shrimp, cheese, crispy onions and chipotle pesto. Very flavorful but the beef took over the shrimp. Better to go with straight beef, like the Bonzai taco or Filet Mignon taco. Or, if it's shrimp your looking for go w/Tiger shrimp taco or Bangin Shrimp taco. No need to mix the beef and shrimp.
Third, Orange-chili pork taco - Orange-chili pork, pineapple salsa, cabbage and cheese. This was a homerun. For me it was the best. Pork was tender and moist with a slight bit of heat with the cool sweet pineapple, it was a nice combination.
Fourth, (keep in mind there were two of us) Pulled Chicken Taco - Pulled chicken, surf slaw, cheese, chipotle sour cream and chile-tomatillo salsa.
This was our least favorite. It was very soggy and the flavors were bland. We added hot sauce and something was just missing. Plus a soggy taco is not pleasant.
Now.. here is a must try. A Chipotle Port Wine Sangria with pineapple. GENIUS! It's a risky combination of ingrediants, but it works. 1 will probably do ya though. I had two and the chipotle was kind of building up on my palate. But I highly recommend 1...for everybody!
I look forward to returning to Surf Shack
Went there for the fourth time already with my family. The service is friendly, food quality is excellent, especially considering most items are under 8 bucks. Incredible sangrias, and my kids love the California cannoli dessert. I strongly recommend this place. Wish they had more seafood on menu, but te look and feel of the place is so great I would be happy going there at least twice a week
The food is excellent and its a perfect casual easy going place with great prices.
Surf's Two Thumbs UP!. The orginal owners of Chico's have been able to "tide" over their fans, pun intended, once again, with the opening of Surf Shack in Westchase. With a wide selection on the menu, so many sangria choices, lots of beer on tap, surf videos rolling and contemporary laid back tunage to set the atmosphere it's easy to "Live Free, and Eat Coastal," as their mantra proclaims. Two dollar tacos on Thursday with live music? I'm in!
I took friends and overdosed on tacos, nachos and nightlife. With a California zest for taco infusions and a few classic choices here and there you can't go wrong. The waitress seats you and then promptly brings out some chips and salsa. Not the watered down, boring salsa you usually get at places claiming to be "Pacific Cuisine," but real, chunky, tomato-tastic salsa. It has to be an original recipe, it was nothing like I'd ever had before.
I ordered the nachos which comes on a long plate with two stacks, one with chicken and pico de gallo, and the other with the most flavorful pork I've ever had before, and I don't even like pork! I couldn't keep away from them and I attribute those nachos to my food coma that commenced later after the meal. So good...so much food!
Then I narrowed it down to only three tacos out of what seemed like a dozen. One was a beer-battered fish taco with the best cabbage concoction ever and a kick that made me want ten more, until I moved onto the surf and turf tacos, meat and shrimp! You can't go wrong. So much flavor and yet it wasn't overwhelming. Then I had the Pipeline fish tacos with some crazy awesome spice aioli. You can really tell this is all amazing because I've forgotten most of the names of what I ordered in a daze of deliciousness.
My friend ordered the orange chicken bowl. She's a very picky eater and hates spicy things but ended up taking the rest of her meal to go because she couldn't part with it! Oh! And they have brown rice options! Awesome? I think so!
Their sangrias range from the sweet to the succulent. Pineapple mint, a Ginger-based one, blueberry, a sangria sparkler with champagne and a strawberry sangria that tastes like a daquiri, are just a few options. Drafts range from local, microbrews and domestics.
Amber Lynn was there with live music playing favorites like "Brand New Key, and even "Santa Baby" for the season. She fit right in and even indulged in the tacos herself. It was packed when we first arrived but the late night crowd is still being established.
Although I was full I couldn't say no to dessert. White chocolate macadamia canolis with whipped cream and caramel had my name on it. It was a pity I had to share. It was one of the best desserts I've ever had. My friends ordered the pineapple upside down cake, which, although I'm not much of pineapple fan, was better than anything mom ever made, and the creme brulee was perfect with a great flavor.
I'll be back at "The Shack" as we've started calling it, in no time. The atmosphere is great, the staff are sweet and considerate and the kitchen is cooking up culinary creations worthy of as much business as we can all get it! Get in there! LIVE FREE! EAT COASTAL! Surf's up, dudes and dudettes!
Surf Shack Salsa Stupendous!. The old Chico's gang is back! These are the same owners that opened the original Chico's that was a local favorite in the Westchase area. This is a place where service is friendly, the vibe is fun and the food is great!
And about the food....Had dinner there in Sun Dec 4.
Starters: FREE, that's right FREE chips and homemade salsa. This is not your grocery store in a jar salsa! You will know it is fresh as soon as you take a bite. This is the salsa that made Chico's so popular. Oh yeah, and don't be surprised when you come back that it will taste a bit different as it is made fresh and depending on who makes it. The core taste will remain constant, but you may notice a surprising and welcomed difference!
Appetizer: An expanded, diverse and interesting array of appetizers. We got the Buffalo Chicken Egg Rolls. These are you big size egg rolls, not the little spring rolls you might expect. They were stuffed with more chicken than I you would think and you will be surprised at how tasty they are. A bit spicy, but their signature Cilantro Ranch dressing used as a dipping sauce really cools the spice down. You get 2 egg rolls cut in half - plenty enough to share!
I got the Sunburned Steak Burrito and it was very big, more than enough to eat and very flavorful. The Chimchurri sauce really makes the burrito special. The steak inside was very large and probably could have been more bit sized. I got the burrito "Shack Style" which meant they covered it in Salsa and then melted cheese over that. My wife loved it like that. I wasn't as thrilled, glad I tried it that way as was suggested by the server, but doubt I will get it "shack style" again. The only real downside to the plate was the side dish. It was Shack Slaw and it was very small, maybe 2 forks full and had too much vinegar or lime, it was very overpowering and didn't compliment the burrito very well. Next time I will add a different side dish for an extra .99 cent.
My wife got the Mongolian Beef Bowl. It was very flavorful. loaded with red peppers and bites of broccoli. Surprisingly, it was over noodles and not rice. My wife loved it. I tried it and found it unique in taste and not what I expected. It was flavorful and very filling.
We will definitely be back on a weekly basis for sure. Everything we saw going by to other tables looked so good, cant wait to try everything!
My first time dining at Surf Shack Coastal Kitchen and I will definitely be going back. I had the grouper which was amazing! The food was excellent and well priced. My brother had the fajitas and he said they were excellent. I want to try the tacos on my next visit. It was a Friday night and we had no problem getting a table. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Our server was also good. I absolutely recommend trying it out.
Absolutely great tacos and friendliest bartenders around! Don’t miss this Charlie Belcher referral! So many different nights of specials and live music some nights. Plus outside seating. Can’t lose here! Also no head banging music!
Laura was an Awesome server! She had everything before I could even ask. She was fun, polite, and made our anniversary dinner amazing♥️🦀👍
A friend of mine and I went here for the unlimited crab legs! I will say, I was a little skeptical due to the cost, $65 for unlimited (2 hour limit), but it was worth it! We both ordered some margarita, which were delicious, and they starred us out with some shrimp (choose hot or cold, comes with the crab) and basically unlimited sides. Tried the rice, which wasn't great, but the chowder was delicious...hint of spice. But, I saved as much room for the main event, the crab. It was delicious, very hot, and our server was very attentive. I'd gladly come here again to try out some other seafood items on the menu.
came for all you can eat crab legs! Great price, salad, bread bowl with lobster bisque was included for 55.00.. can’t beat that! All the food is high quality and delicious.
Had brunch here with some family, and the restaurant was actually hosting a fundraiser for a 3 year old with cancer at the time. The servers were amazing, and everyone was extremely friendly. We hung out for a few hours and they had live music, face painting and a balloon artist for the specific event that day. The food was great too! I definitely recommend!
The BEST tacos I’ve even had in tampa. I live in south tampa and came down to west chase and Surf Shack was absolutely amazing. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was so fun. Would definitely recommend!!
I ordered the grouper sandwich and it was pretty good. The service was not the best though, some of our group had to wait 20+ minutes for a drink.
Had the all you can eat crab, it was sooo good. The only thing better than the crab was our phenomenal service. This was the best service I've had in a very long time.
Good happy hour specials on drinks and food. The tacos are amazing. I do not recommend oysters on the half shell or the peel and eat shrimp. Both had a strong, fishy odor and did not seem fresh.
The food was very good. We had the all you can eat crab legs. The service was great! Our waiter greeted us with a smile every time he came to our table. If we needed something, he did not hesitate to bring it to us. He was very attentive.
This place is a gem!!! Was craving crab legs and found that they serve AYCE crab legs on the weekends.
I love the decor and our server Gio not only makes a phenomenal mojito he is super attentive and nice. Will definitely be returning.
Gio was absolutely awesome. Very friendly and accommodating to my mothers questions and needs. Hope he's taking care of us when we go back. Thanks so much! Food was great!
We Googled Crab Legs, called and found out it was AUCE on Sat/Sun. Went in for dinner and found out our Waitress (Laura) we knew from another place we ate at before. She’s AWESOME! My Husband ate literally 5lbs of Crab. He’s beyond pleased! I got the Cauliflower Wings with Asian Sauce. They paired it with Housemade Spicy Ranch. They advertised live music on Friday Nites. Reasonably Priced & the Crab wasn’t small either. Will be back. :)
Best mgr and waitress me and my wife ever had. Was there today and it was AWESOME!!!!!! Definitely will be there again. My wife had the ayce crabs legs I had the burger, everything was perfect!!!!!
We enjoyed our meal, the drinks and we were provided with great service. The only disappointment was the “fried” ice cream. It was just corn flakes on top of ice cream. That didn’t make much sense to us 🤔
If you want all-you-can-eat-crab that is worth your money, this is your place!!! Saturday is all you can eat crab legs! The crab was fresh and deliciousssss! They kept the crab legs coming hot and fresh too. The classic fish and chips (fries) were also very good, tartar sauce on point. The wait staff was super friendly and down to earth - 5 stars for that! BUT, did not like the fish tacos. Ordered 3 diff kinds - shrimp, blackened grouper and longboard cod and they were all pretty bland and sauces not good. BUT, we are definitely coming back for the all you can eat crab, as it was top notch and super delicious! I am not even a real crab leg eater...but I think I am now!!!
