I grew up on steak and shake in the South. I'm used to the little paper cars in kids meals. That being said this is a much more modern approach to steak and shake, which perfectly suits the college atmosphere. The create your own soda fountains, the order yourself booth, and the high glass windows bring you 2017. However when I look to the right of the front counter and see the classic crane machine I can only help but feel the nostalgia. Crane machines and other games are trademarks of Steak and Shake and bring me joy. The burgers here were classic steak and shake style, grilled super thin, and. The Oreo shake was very good. Smooth and thick yet you get those delightful bits of Oreo chunk that I love. The only thing that deters me from coming to this specific location is the fact that there are only a few menu items, excluding the under 5 dollar meals. This is typical for most restaurants on college campuses though. They adapt their menu so they can crank out more food faster. Over all it is an awesome nostalgic restaurant, but the menu isn't as pleasing.

Excellent flattop style burger with shattery caramelization, fresh tasty toppings, pillowy bun, strangly addictive fries, and that pepper sauce, my goodness....this first time will most definitely lead to a next....and so on!!

The food is always great here, I just wish it were just a tiny bit cleaner sometimes. However other times it’s always on point!

The food was fantastic. First time I've been to a Steak n' Shake and was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately my experience at this location with the staff was less than satisfactory. It took an extremely long time to order, there was one person in front of me and I was standing there for 10 minutes. I then realized it was because the cashier was extremely slow and quiet, it was nearly impossible to order. Anyway forgetting about my staff experience the food was good enough that I could forget that it took me so long to order and get that food.

I hadn't had Steak and Shake in years. My daughter and I decided to spend the day on Mill Ave. After seeing some sights, we decided to stop in this location and we were very pleasantly surprised. It was very crowded, but we got our order pretty fast, and it was correct. They also serve beer (for a very decent price).

Food was great. Cajun fries had good flavor, although a bit on the salty side, but still good. Temp outside was nice as it was dusk when we sat down to eat. Atmosphere was fun and exciting. Great place to grab a bite to eat.

This was our first time trying Steak n' Shake. It was a cool location in downtown Tempe and the restaurant was mostly clean (the drink area was a little messy). My burger was made incorrectly and my boyfriend ordered a shake with his meal, but didn't get his shake until 20 minutes after our food came out. The manager was very apologetic though and made it right. The food was very good (after they fixed my burger), so we'll definitely be back.

The food was really delicious and I really couldnt believe how inexpensive! A burger with a fried egg and small fries was 6 dollars! It's also really nice and clean and they are open until 3 am on weekends. So my friends who like to enjoy Mill Ave to all its extent can come here to sober up with some great food!

Always a pleasure to dine at this location. Good food at Steak&Sheak is expected and is delivered here but the staff brings things to a higher level going above and beyond every single time. It's very refreshing to have this level of service in The Valley where customers are regularly made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a businesses primary concern. Keep up the great work...

The burgers are so yummy. I've never had a problem with my specifics if I order with no onion or no tomatoes. They have wonderful shakes and it's a good spot to hang out.

I think this is the only Steak n' Shake in all of the Tempe area, which stinks, because this location is in downtown. Which means....a nightmare of parallel parking and on a busy weekend night, you bet you won't be able to find any street parking. That means, you have to then go to a parking garage and pay up before you can even start eating. I wish they had a parking lot to accommodate their customers because I'm sure more people would come. Their fries are pretty good and I know I'd come by more often if parking was easier. Last time I came though about a month ago, they said they no longer have salt and vinegar fries which were one of my favorites. I do hope they bring those back! I ended up having the Cajun fries. They were not too salty, and nice and crispy thin fries. Oh, and lastly, service is a little slower than your typical McDonald's but they give you a nifty vibrating thingy that lights up when your order is ready so you can take a seat while you wait.
