Absolutely the best meal in north county. All of Ian’s food has been mastered before even being on the menu. It makes sense why Ian McPhee is the most successful chef in SLO County. I can’t even think of a better place to reccomend to anyone for lunch or dinner
McPhees is the place you go for comfort food after a day of wine tasting. The restaurant has been continuously owned by the same family for decades. You can tell by the care they put into the dishes, the incredibly friendly wait staff, and the family recipes on the menu. The garlic bread is an absolute must, even if you're gluten-free (not celiac); it's topped with a combo of garlic, cheese and mayo! Creamy and decadent. If you're a meat eater, the baby back ribs will send you to your happy place. Oh and don't forget to look up. The tin ceilings are a work of art.

Just had an amazing dinner here with our best friends. Most amazing meal I’ve had in a long while. The filet with Cabernet olive sauce is perfect mid rare. The pork chop is not what you’d think, but one of the best things on our table. It was recommended by a local. Every bite was spectacular!
We Always have a wonderful time at Mc Phees the food is always top rate and service is phenomenal!! Higher end on price but well worth it always the best thanks Ian!
The food here and atmosphere was really good. Our waiter, Scott, was outstanding and made great recommendations on the menu. Portions were large and everyone in our party was very happy with this upscale restaurant in Templeton. Beer and wine only but a nice wine list with many local wines. Desserts were outstanding too. All in all a great experience. We will be back soon.
Just had lunch yesterday at McPhee's Grill (or Ian's as the locals call it) and the quality of the service and quality of the food it still top flight. The starter with a few olives and a bit of bread with balsamic and olive oil is good opener. Then we split an appetizer of the tempura shrimp with the peanut sauce and it was fabulous, as always! I had a special of the day with a lovely pulled pork sandwich on a ciabatta roll. Toasted perfectly and the meat had just the right amount of sauce with well matched bread and butter pickles. She had the fish tostada and was very very pleased. Yep, This is still the fanciest, best meal in town. Thank You Ian McPhee
Absolutely EXCEPTIONAL service! Our server Kathy had a tremendous personality and was incredibly kind! The food was very good- especially the wine, shoestring fries, cheeseburger and blackberry dessert! Cold water in a glass jug with no ice! Relaxed atmosphere- very comfortable for a family birthday dinner on a road trip! We'd go back!
Seriously DELICIOUS!!!! I’ve been here lots of times for lunch and brunch and it’s always so fabulous. We went for my birthday dinner last night and it was out of this world delicious! Ian was there like he usually is and was greeting everyone and hanging coats and hats for customers..I love seeing that from the owner. My husband and I are foodies and McPhee’s is just consistently good food! Try the macadamia crusted salmon. It’s SO goooooood!
If your looking to eat dinner in the Paso area, this place is a must. Just dynamic and exquisite flavors, salads to main to desserts. The pork chop is my fav.
We love everything about this quaint restaurant- the atmosphere, the staff and omg....the food!! Never disappoints!! Love McPhees!! ❤️
Simply the best... this is a family owned and operated business that makes great food with amazing service. I love the smell and the coziness of the restaurant, and there's not a single thing on the menu I wouldn't order! Ian and his son Max are the nicest people, and Ian's wife makes all the desserts!
This place is so nice. Good food, good staff and great relaxing atmosphere.
Service is spot on and their house wine is quite tasty. Bring your own bottle AND purchase a bottle and they will waive their $20 corking fee.
I had the jumbalaya and it was the best I've ever had. McPhee's was recommended by an associate and it lived up to it. Definitely worth a visit next time you're in Templeton, CA.
The service and the food was great..I had the Salmon dish,it was delicious.
All time favorite place to eat!!You will not find better.
I believe it's the top restaurant in Paso and the entire Central Coast. My wife and I have always had great meals there and the service is excellent. A good wine list with a lot of fine local wines. One of my 5 favorite restaurants. If you are in the area, try it, you won't be disappointed.
Beyond 5 stars. This family restaurant is the best. Big thanks to our driver Bruce that new people to get us in. He talked us into this so we changed our plans and went here. So glad we did. Service was impeccable. Ambiance was wonderful and the food was delectable.
We enjoyed our wine choices. The artichoke appetizer was amazing. The 32oz porterhouse was amongst one of the best I’ve ever had.
Thanks to the chef and all the staff as we felt like we were treated like family and wish there were more places like this one.
This spot was recommended to us by a friend. Very cool, rustic steakhouse atmosphere. Started with tortilla soup and the “garlic bread”- delicious! Just be prepared… special topping that’s a house secret- also sampled the chipotle duck nachos starter- tasty as well. Hubs had the ribeye steak and oooo’d over the reduction on it. I had the macadamia crusted salmon- sooooo good! Finished it off with the Basque cheesecake and raspberry sauce 💕
This is my second experience at McPhee's, and I can hardly wait until my third, fourth, etc.!!! The place is beautiful, the staff is ultra accommodating, and the food is out of this world! This time I had the salmon for lunch. I asked that it be under done as much as possible. It was like butter and it melted in my mouth! So delicious!!! The only reason the photos show it pretty much empty is because they close at 2 after lunch to prepare the place for dinner. I highly recommend this place!
*UPDATE*
Just went back yesterday (April 8, 2019) for my third visit! I swear it just gets better! This time I had a lamb burger. My husband had a chicken mushroom dish, and my mother had a swordfish tostada. All three were amazing and presented exquisitely! Just moved back up to the area after 20 years away and I'm looking forward to visiting more often!
Overall the food was great, service was little slow and and forgetful. On the whole, enjoyed the food.
We ate dinner for my birthday with your lovely establishment. Dina was our lovely waitress. She was very attentive and very knowledgeable. Checked back with us often we wanted for nothing. What an enjoyable evening with wonderful food. Thank you for a wonderful birthday dinner.

Our hotel van driver, Bruce, insisted that we dune here and he was spot on! Delicious food, great service by Leslie and pleasant atmosphere. Will come back!!
Delicious food. The burger was huge and delicious and the steaks were tender and well prepared. It can get a little loud but nice atmosphere for an upscale dinner.
Our server engaged with our party of 8 with grace, professional knowledge, and took an excellent group photo! The best crab cake, and I've been comparing for a year now. Very comfortable chairs, lovely atmosphere
Lots of people for a Sunday night.
We ate here as guests of some local friends and really enjoyed everything. The pork chop is one of the two best I have ever had and all of the other menu items were also excellent. Our server was superb.
Food is always amazing and never disappoints. Get the sweet potato fries for an appetizer. So bomb.. I had the rack of Lamb so delicious, it was amazing
