Went for lunch on a Sunday. The Happy Clam is a casual restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating and features local seafood and German dishes. Corrina’s clam chowder with full belly clams beats the pants off the New England recipe - go with Corrinas. My Jaeger Schnitzel was nicely crisped and smothered in gravy with mushrooms. The fish and chips features nice cuts of haddock with a thin batter which was appreciated. There’s also a playground for kids and a separate saloon/bar on the property.

The german food here is outstanding! I got the crab roll and ended up not liking it very much but I took a few bites off of the other plates at my table and the german food was crazy good! Definitely go for the jeager schnitzel and then finish off with the blueberry ice cream. The staff was awesome and the chef was super nice too!

Take out - we got the mushroom crab appetizer which was decent and the fried seafood platter which was great. Shrimp a bit small, but scallops were huge and perfect, fish done well. We prefer clam strips vs whole belly but it was still tasty. Not greasy, all cooked properly.

Did not expect such an amazing meal in the middle of mid coast Maine! The German beer was great, the food delicious, the service friendly and fast. I had the Jaeger schnitzel which was perfection! My parents had the seafood platter which was fresh and delicious. My husband had the meatloaf with mashed potatoes which was also amazing! Their use of herbs is on point, some super amazing sauces. A must go to!

This place is a true, authentic New England experience. We had lunch here today, some of us had seafood baskets and some had German food, a wedge salad, and Buffalo wings. Nothing was greasy, everything was cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious. I was thoroughly impressed with our meal and the service was great. I’ll definitely be back!

Best combination Maine Seafood and German restaurant, perhaps in the world.(name another) Fried clams, lobsters, and an entire menu of German delights, all washed down with a great selection of frosty beers, and yes, a few German ones as well. This place isn’t fancy, but you don’t go to Tenants Harbor to do fancy. It’s just unique and damn good! Will eat here every time we come to the area.

The Jaeger Schnitzel never fails to deliver. Excellent! I did for the first time order clam chowder and I’m sorry to say it was terrible. The consistency was gelatinous instead of a creamy base and at $9.00 a cup I should have complained but I didn’t because the main meal was superb!

Food was excellent and portions were huge. I got the garden salad with lobster meat added, and there was so much lobster I had lobster in every bite. It was busy and short staffed, but they hustled. Would definitely return

Exceeded our expectations. Went for German dishes, most guests there for the seafood. Food excellent, service and waitress exceptional. They were out of many items on seafood menu, very busy. All German items were available. Lucky us.

We met some friends for dinner at the Happy Clam. It was a very interesting place, right down to the working rotary phone. The menu is a mix of seafood and German dishes, which we were eager to try. The attentive waitress recommended the schweinshaxe, a whole pork shoulder slow cooked and briefly deep fried to crisp the outside. It was served with spaetzle and red cabbage. The pork was delicious, flavorful & tender. The red cabbage was also delicious, the spaetzle was an unusual yellow and bland. They also had German beers. Next time we will try a seafood dish.

Super cute little restaurant with a great patio. The service was very friendly and timed all of our selections for us. We came specifically for steamed clams but got fried clams, wedge salad, lobster bisque and whole belly clam choweder. ( bisque and chowder was 10/10). Will have to go back to try the German good options.

I had a number of restaurants flagged to try on my trip to Maine. This was not one of them. I wound up here purely by circumstance, but it was better than any of the “recommended” restaurants at which I ate! The clam roll was phenomenal!! Great flavor and the clams had been properly cleaned, cooked, and shucked, which is more than I can say for the “famous” Moody’s down the road. The service was super friendly and accommodating. Add The Happy Clam to your “must visit” list!
