So I've been going to maruhide for awhile and I was deeply saddened when they announced they were closing. Grilled Uni, Uni toro donburi and uni cream pasta I thought were treasures that would be lost forever.
Then I found out the two chefs opened a place of their own, Miyabi Uni!! Boy was I excited. Though I'm saddened to see that they don't have a grilled uni on the menu, nonetheless the menu didn't disappoint.
I came here with my girlfriend on a Saturday night all the way from la Verne. Mainly because we had no idea what to eat and I drove for 20 minutes before I realized that I hadn't gone to Miyabi Uni yet. We came in without a reservation and waited for maybe 20 minutes. Wasn't that bad of a wait and it was definitely worth it. We were greeted by several servers and I really like how it wasn't just one server checking on customers but rather it was the whole team of people rotating around to help. It was excellent. 5 stars
For food we ordered the Uni Tamagoyaki, Kobe Beef and Uni Roll, Uni Chawanmushi, Uni Cream Pasta and the Uni toro Donburi.
The uni tamagoyaki looks plain and simple, but once you split it you'll see a couple layers of Uni just waiting to ooze out. I recommend taking as little cuts as people to keep the uni from oozing out. This was really well executed. The uni and tamago went well together and neither took more flavor over the other. Perfect balance. It's accompanied with a kind of ponzu sauce with grated daikon, but we felt it tasted perfectly fine on its own.
The Kobe Beef and Uni roll, this was just o.m.g. So the Kobe Beef is slightly frozen, rolled with a shiso lead, uni, and topped with a little bit of jello soy sauce. I love appetizers like this because it's just bursting with flavor. Every ingredient has a purpose. The frozen Kobe Beef gave a slight crunch, the uni sweetens the taste, shiso leaf adds an herbal touch and the jello soy sauce is the curve ball that came out of nowhere. Together they create an orchestra of flavors playing around with your taste buds.
Uni Chawanmushi- another surprisingly amazing delicious item. I've tried this at a couple places and it sucked. All they did was make a regular chawanmushi and put uni on top. Not Miyabi Uni. They steamed a couple pieces mixed together with the egg which basically infused the whole dish with the sweet taste of uni. Every bite was a bountiful flavor that served justice to the name Uni chawanmushi.
Annnd the main courses. Both of these originate from Maruhide so there weren't any surprises, except that they still tasted amazing, even better than I remembered. Luckily I got to sit in front of one of the master chef in charge of making the uni pasta. The ingredients they use to make the uni pasta is definitely different than other recipes, and I love it. The actual key ingredient for making the uni cream taste better? Salt. The salt really helps enhance the flavor a lot. Not only that, they don't just use uni butter but they also add some uni to cook with the cream itself, which does two things: adds more flavor to the cream while also making the uni taste more amazing. I believe Isao-san saw me try to clean the plate by adding some of the sushi rice we had leftover, so he baked up two extra pieces of toast for us to clean the plate with. Thank you so much. The fresh bread paired with uni cream soaked rice plus the warm hospitality, we were both extremely happy to be customers here.
The Uni Toro Donburi is still consistently delicious. I've had it for a few years now and it's never fallen off in taste. I will say the sushi rice tastes much better than I remembered.
Overall, as my girlfriend rated it, super A+++. We'll be back! Hungry for more.
We were invited to Miyabi Uni for their soft opening. Our first impressions were very positive as we were greeted by friendly staff and a mouth watering selection of dishes on the menu. Everything we tried that night had exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be back again to try other dishes!!! A few must haves are the uni onsen tamago and the Kobe beef and uni roll.
Went for the first time on 2/22 for the Sake pairing meal. I will be going back multiple times because the food was amazing and the staff was exceptional! Only negative was that I waited so long to try this place.
I've been hearing several friends talking about this hidden gem for quite some time now and thought I'd make the drive out here to see what the hype is all about. After looking over the menu, I wanted to try over 75% of the dishes. With high hopes that everything would be as good as it looked on the menu, I was not disappointed one bit with the assorted sashimi don, Uni wrapped with Kobe beef, and Uni onsen tamago. I will be back to try other dishes soon!!
Friendly staff, nice decor, and excellent food! There was def a lot of thought put into the menu. Uni onsen Tamago and Kobe beef with uni roll are a must try here!! We will definitely be back again soon!!!!
I'm definitely going to become a regular here! Great food to go along with a beautiful restaurant with kind and attentive staff. Can't get enough of the Kobe beef roll!
This place is paradise for all uni lovers! It's an awesome new place that's a one stop shop to satisfy people's craving for uni. Definitely try the uni pasta and Uni Donburi. They were delicious! I plan to go back soon to try out more of the tasty dishes on the menu.
Dinner at Miyabi Uni last night was f'ing fantastic. Every dish that was served was executed to perfection, even the f'ing fried chicken! In fact, if they served nothing but f'ing chicken wings I'd still make that drive from OC. Okay you get it I love chicken wings so I'm biased. The uni dishes are solid but that chicken!
This place is definitely the place for uni lover! Awesome setting and friendly service! My new favorite spot!
Went with our friends to Miyabi and I love everything about it! Uni Onsen Tamago, Uni Tamagoyaki, Kobe beef takaki, Kobe beef teppan, and uni miso soup are my personal favorite dishes. If you love uni like me this is the place to go! I can't wait to go back again soon!!!
Came from Montreal to try this restaurant since I am a huge fan of sea urchin. Best uni experience. Highly recommended!! Great service and the food is just simply delicious & fresh.
Innovative food concept and exceptional quality. Personal favorite is the onsen tomago and uni pasta!!!!
Fantastic. Everything we ordered was delicious. Highly recommend.
Probably one of the best places to get truly fresh Uni in a variety of creative dishes. Will definitely be going back soon
Yummy uni dishes and great service! Everything we ordered were delicious! We will def come back again!
Uni heaven has finally opened!
I've literally been counting down the days until this place opened & wow, it does not disappoint.
[MY FAVORITES]
(Don't get me wrong, EVERYTHING on the menu is delicious but these are my favorites!)
- Uni & Quail egg shooter
This is so refreshing & fun to eat! I rarely ever eat shooters but I'll definitely be ordering this again when I come back.
- Uni Cream Croquette +4.5/5
I was never a fan of croquette, until I had this one. Definitely a must-try.
- Uni Tamagoyaki +5/5
I LOVE EGGS.. AND UNI. So, UNI + EGG?! *mindblown*. The balance of uni to egg is perfect.
- Uni Cream Pasta +5/5
So... So.. Good. You MUST get this dish. It's executed perfectly by the chefs & ratio of sauce:noodles:uni is p-e-r-f-e-c-t.
[PARKING]
- There's a free parking garage in the same building as Miyabi Uni. You can see it while passing the restaurant (on your right) on Cabrillo.
Overall, a much needed addition to Torrance's food scene & perfect for a date night/family night/I-need-my-uni night. I'll be back soon. :)
Beyond amazing .. the food fresh , this is it.. only for uni lover, gotta try it yourself .. so .. u will know..
Reincarnation of Maruhide Uni Club in a new location on the other side of the 405
Creative Uni dishes taste amazing. Very nice ambient and friendly staffs. Sit at the bar to see your food in action! Definitely will come back again!!
Parking: Free parking in the same building as the restaurant. There were plenty of spots when I went on a Saturday night.
Food: - You have to try their Uni Tamagoyaki (warm Japanese egg omelette with uni). It's
absolutely divine.
- I had their Miyabi Kaisen Donburi, which is basically sashimi with rice. It comes in a big bowl, and each sashimi piece is huge and very fresh. Definitely recommended!
- The Spicy Napolinata, spicy tomato pasta, was AWESOME. It had the perfect level of spiciness, the sauce wasn't too heavy or light, the pasta was perfectly cooked.
- Sorbet was good too. It had the right amount of sweetness and sourness.
And no, these weren't all for myself to eat lol. I came with a large group for the restaurant's soft opening. I will definitely come back again, especially for that egg omelette! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it lol.
This place took me by surprise. The oyster were so juicy and tasty. They didn't have grain or smell like fish and were just ask around delicious. We took advantage of their hair hour menu and everything on it was a absolute Dwight. Will definitely go back to try their uni pasta.
Sushi was amazing! For the 1st time I tried pasta with Uni with garlic sauce, magnificient! Customer service was amazing! We have been to this place at least eight times as a couple and with friends. Every time it was an unique and pleasant experience!
Fresh, delicous, and relatively inexpensive Japanese food. Every seafood dish, hot and cold, is handled with care. The sushi and sashimi are large portions and some of the best I've ever had (especially the otoro).
Go here Tuesday~Thursday for their clam chowder croquettes with uni cream sauce, an absolute favorite of mine.
Don't bother getting the kaarage, it's not marinated and not seasoned much if at all.
Came for the happy hour $1 oyster, they are so fresh, did not taste a grain of sand.
Also tried the yummy sashimi salad with Uni dressing for take out. It was abundant portion.
Great place for Uni dishes! Sushi is on point the uni shots are definitely worth a try! Recommend for any uni lovers
Oh man. This place is to die for. We use to go to Maruhide before it closed. Then we started coming here since 2016 and have been coming back every year. The uni is delicious. Delicious doesn't even describe it. They have all types of dishes that have uni. Rice, pasta, sashimi, miso soup etc etc. And of course you can get other fish as well, such as toro. If you love uni, you absolutely have to come here. And for dessert, I recommended the Yuzu sorbet!
I love uni! Its my absolutely fave, so this post might be biased... In any case, if I had to choose, my favorite dish tonight was the toro and uni wrap, but you can't go wrong with the uni shooter! Mmmm :)
