Solid service and good food. The spicy options are a bit on the mild side. The ambiance is great. The location has a ton of traffic. Plan ahead especially around holidays.
Chips and salsa is a most or I won't come back. They have awesome salsa and chips, I definitely like the new pineapple salsa they came out a few years back. I like that they offer several side option not just basic rice/beans. Great atmosphere and friend service overtime I've been here. I usually order the Relleno and Enchilada combo. They have a several meals that are not your typical Mexican flare, which is nice. The avocado enchiladas are great if you haven't tried yet. Pricing is comparable to other chains.
Good food! I would call it more of a tex Mex or "white people Mexican food" but its delicious nonetheless. Their salsas they serve are good, as is their queso and chicken medallions
Good food. When the other day and had enchiladas and wow good good service I'm going back soon

Mexican food. Excellent food. Just like mom used to make.
Abuelo's Mexican Food is a fine restaurant, with good Mexican dishes. During my time at Abuelo's I had some guacamole, the Tilapia Veracruz (I can't recommend this one too much, as the topping tasted like tomato soup), and the flan. The service was great as my glass was only empty for about 30 seconds. The prices were good too, $42.49 to feed my family (3 people). The Guacamole was creamy and delicious, the flan was spectacular! You already know my thoughts about the Tilapia Veracruz. I had an overall positive experience at Abuelo's.

Hot and tasty. Delicious salsas. One salsa had roasted problemo peppers in it. One salsa was a mild green and the other was a hot red. All three were the best I've had in a few years. I had a ground beef taco with a shredded beef enchinlada. They came with beans and rice. All were seasoned and tasty. The waitress kept our Pepsi and water full.
Best Mexican restaurant in town, I've tried everything from agave, el chico, on the border, but ABUELOS takes the prize by far! The three salsas are flavorful, and I like to get the pick 2 or 3 enchiladas dinner with rice and papas only for 8.99 cheaper than you may think.
Love this restaurant. OMG - our favorite Mexican restaurant in Tulsa!! Try the papas with dinner instead of the rice. Staff always friendly and helpful and the food never disappoints.
Very good food and good food portions the environment was very good to

Their food is good and also their sangria is awesome made by nick
Nice Dinner!. We really like the decor of the restaurant. It feels like we are in a Mexican Royal Courtyard. Our server was great and really enjoyed the food! The enchiladas were great! Although, the chips are not organic and might be GMO? So glad they have gone to vegetarian black beans and vegetarian rice. We will plan to go back!
The best in Tulsa. Ive been here a few times and while I find the servers to be lacking in personality the food is top notch. The last time I stopped in for lunch I had the pork medallions... It blew me away. I'm not sure what they do differently than other tex-mex restaurants (perhaps the quality and freshness of the ingredients) but it is spot on. The only thing that keeps me from returning on a regular basis is the price. It is worth it but it makes my wallet cry. Great place to go for special occasions but if you go too often your backside will get wide while your wallet gets thin. I'll be there to celebrate my birthday for sure though.
Yum Yum Yum!. We have been to Abuelo's several times and have never been disappointed. The price is well worth the food you get. The service has always been fantastic! We aren't from the area and do not have Abuelo's nearby so it is definitely a MUST when we are in Tulsa.
Fantastic. We are tex-mex fans and this was a very good restaurant. Fajitas were awesome. The tortillas are not fresh made which is one drawback. The diablo cheese dip was incredible and the bacon wrapped jalapeño stuffed shrimp with creamy cheese were over the top great!!!! Salsa is ok...but enjoyable. Worth the money and we will be back!
Good Tex Mex. I've been here to eat a few times. A weekend lunch in 2009, a weekday lunch in 2010, and a weekday lunch in 2012.
Food is always very good. I usually stick to enchiladas. Their shredded beef enchiladas with ranchero sauce are excellent. I always request flour tortillas because I never could stomach corn tortillas.
It looks like a lot of the negative reviews are people complaining about the price. I'm sympathetic, but at the same time I don't care for the popular attitude that because a restaurant serves Mexican or Asian food that it has to be a cheap restaurant. There's this assumption that Mexican (or Tex-Mex) food is cheap and so anytime someone pays more than $9 for an entrée they're mad. That's absurd. One look at this place and you should know before you ever sit down that it's going to cost more than Taco Bueno. Be cheap elsewhere.
Yes, one look around the interior and you'll realize that you're paying a slight premium on the food for the ambiance and decor. It's a very expensively designed and decorated dining room. Personally, I find it refreshing to see a Mexican-themed restaurant go to such an expense for interior decorating.
They've been changing things up lately. Probably to compete with Chuy's which opened up across the street and is very popular and Ted's to the East which has always drown a crowd.
Restaurant is always very clean and in good repair.
Love love love this place!! Love the fresh tortillas and new salsa combinations!
This is our default restaurant when we don't have something else we're in the mood for. Food is generally lighter-feeling than the more traditional heavy TexMex in Tulsa. My wife and I usually share a fajita plate which is plenty of food for the two of us.
I had the steak chimichanga and it was really delicious!
Great food and service. A family favorite. Luis is an excellent waiter. The dip sampler is our favorite.
Good good good. It's all good. Seriously. All of it.
My wife and I eat their often. Consistantly great food and service. They have Tex-Mex if that's what you are looking for, but if you want something different, ask about the specials and look for the House Specialities on the menu. Sure, the prices are a little higher than Jorge's Taco Shop built in an old gas station, but you get what you pay for.
Totally Awesome. Love the decor, service is great, and I wish I could copycat their salsa.
I truly haven't had a bad meal at Abuelo's and am totally digging their Happy Hour menu.
Also, the spouse isn't a Mexican Food fan...he ordered the prime rib....AMAZING! It's only available Thursdays and Sundays.
Loves it!!. We frequent Abuelo's! Usually every time we are in Tulsa we eat there! The steak fajita chimichanga is our favorite and love the espinaca!

Nice decor! not so nice on wallet!. Really nice place, good service, but the food seems heavy as in lotta cheese and just lot of food! Chips are nothing special salsa is good little on the spicy side often makes me cough! if you have a coupon it is a good buy though!
Los Mejores de la Casa, Stuffed Chicken Medallions. Los Mejores for dinner, and the Stuffed Chicken Medallions at lunch, are both items I go back for.
I like abuelos. Nice atmosphere and good texmex. My favorite is the Pescado Guerreiro and the chips and salsa.
Best mexican food. Very good. I love places that have mexican seafood. Much much MUCH better than many tex-mex places around Tulsa with chile and cheese drenched all over everything
Still Great. We've been eating there since the first one in amarillo. I've always loved them and still do. Only wish I could have invested in them way back when.
Like the grill. Gave them a "like it" for the grill items. Actual mexican food not too good.
Nice place. Clean, polite and quick staff. Food was good but not great. Some more flavor is definitely needed. Portion to cost ratio is a little off as well. 18$ for a burrito and rice was just not right for the amount of food you receive, burrito should have been a bit bigger. Tex Mex yes, overall experience positive. I can't see myself coming back regularly but on an occasion, I don't see why not.
Consistent in Food Quality, Service, and Atmosphere
There are only a couple of large corporate chain Mexican restaurants that I like. Abuelo’s Mexican Restaurant is one of them. And even though I don’t dine here very often I would consider it the best.
They start the meal with their chips and a nice variety four of salsas that range from sweet tomatillo (with a hint of pineapple I think), to a nice, not too hot habanero. In between, on the heat range are a mild, but flavorful tomato salsa and a chipotle salsa. All good!
We had the Enchilada Lunch and the Chile Relleño and Enchilada lunch. With both of the meals we had, we picked the refried beans and Papas con Chile. The Papas con Chile is an Abuelo’s original item. This is the first time I have had it. It is kind of a mashed potato, spicy, cheesy casserole. It is rich and creamy. The red sauce my wife picked for her chicken enchilada was very good. The Chile Relleño I had was filed with seasoned shredded beef covered in queso and the tasty nicely spiced, chicken enchilada was covered in a green chili queso sauce.
Good meals! Good Service, Nice restaurant!
If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection "Jalapeno Highway" on Yelp. I've probably been there.
I placed a curbside order for a family meal on a Saturday night - they were very busy and a little behind schedule but that is not the servers fault and sometime it cannot be avoided! The food was pretty good! The tortillas were not my favorite - I’m very picky on tortillas and often make my own because a lot of places taste almost store bought. The queso was good and so was the salsa.
I love this place such a good Mexican restaurant me and My family always enjoy. This place. Food is good. Service is good atmosphere is on point.
It's wonderful when you come across servers like Tori who truly enhance your dining experience. Her attentiveness, great spirit, and positive attitude make a big difference. It's always a pleasure to be around someone who takes pride in their work and makes you feel valued as a customer. Cheers to Tori and her exceptional service! 🎉🌮🍹
I’m visiting Tulsa from Texas and I was hesitant to try Mexican food up here. Being so close to the boarder I have pretty high standards on this cuisine. Happy to report the food was delicious, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, our server, Mike, was attentive but not overbearing and the experience was quite pleasant. The wife and I ordered chips and queso, two enchilada plates and standard drinks (no alcohol). We were in and out in 30 min.
how good the great burrito!
I'm glad I ate at Abuelo's.
the place is really nice and particular (maybe you should review the sofas .. some have sunk).
courteous staff and really good dishes!
we will be back
Had dinner here tonight. Telia is one of the absolute best servers! She is so good with my so sweet daughter and my elderly grumpy mom. She makes sure to always bring extra ice from my grumpy momma!!!
This is a small chain, but, seriously some of the best Mexican food in town. Prices are reasonable and there is a lot of food served. They serve 3 different types of salsa and they are all excellent. Drinks are on point from the bar as well.
This was like a fancy Mexican Cheesecake Factory. Unlimited chips and salsa to start, and both were quite good. Fun to have three salsa choices then getting to pick which one you wanted more from.
For starters we got the Queso Diablo which was great and you can never go wrong with queso. Also, we ordered the Jalapeños Cheese Fritters which were by far the best thing I’ve ever had. The dipping sauce was perfect to go with them.
The Tortilla Soup was fresh and very flavorful.
The chicken fajitas were good but not great, the chicken lacked flavor.
Finally for dessert we ordered the Dulce De Leche Cheesecake and Chocolate Eruption which were the perfect cherry on top to our visit. Both were great and completely finished in no time.
Service was fast. Our waiter was super nice and friendly. Always topped our waters off and asked if we needed anything. The atmosphere inside is nice with the sky painting.
Would come back again.
A diamond in the sea of chain restaurants...Abuelo's was a welcomed break from the chain overload in the area. Staff is very friendly and helpful with drink and dinner suggestions. Bacon wrapped stuff shrimp was absolutely delicious. Fajitas are served super sizzling hot with very fresh ingredients. Looking forward to return and try more items from the menu!
Our family enjoyed our meals completely. My sea bass was delicious, and when our waitress realized my husband and I were ordering for our keto diet, she made excellent suggestions to accommodate us. The service was great, covid requirements were carefully observed, and the decor was on point. Definitely recommend! We were there to visit our son, which we have done rarely of late, and this was a memorable and very good meal. Thanks!
