On the Good Side of Average Mexican Food
Monterey’s Little Mexico has restaurants in the Houston, Texas area and a couple of them in Oklahoma. I had dined at the one in Pasadena, Texas many times while living in the area. Their current location on Sheridan used to be a Monterey House. We used to dine there too, when we lived in Tulsa in the 80’s.
It has always been a good solid “go to” Mexican restaurant, it still is.
Their lunch menu is a fairly priced selection of good, and good sized Mexican combo meals. My wife had the #1, she thought it was great. It was a cheese enchilada, a chile con queso tostada, and a seasoned beef taco and with rice and refried beans.
I had the carne asada and ordered a chili toreado to go with it. The meal came with rice, charro beans, avocado slices and tortillas. I prefer carne asada simply char grilled and not smothered in onions peppers and cheese. The meat was a perfect medium rare and as you would expect with this cut of meat, a little chewy. It was served on a hot cast iron platter just like a plate of fajitas. The charro beans were spicy. It was still a good meal.
It is a good, consistent in quality, restaurant for Mexican food. Service – Average.
If you are looking for other Mexican restaurants in the area, check out my reviews in my collection "Jalapeno Highway" on Yelp. I've probably been there.
Had a great experience here Saturday, I visited with my parents and it’s one of their favorite restaurants, they’ve been eating here for 50+ years. I had a combo with enchiladas, a taco, 2 different types of tostadas, a tamale, and beans & rice. Everything was tasty and served quickly. I do wish they’d make their chips thicker, it’s a struggle to eat their salsa because they’re so thin. Our servers name escapes me but he was awesome. (He’s from Bristow) He took good care of us and was incredibly patient with my elderly mother.
We stopped in one afternoon for a late lunch. They brought us chips and salsa as well as drinks to enjoy while checking out the menu. The menu is pretty extensive for the size and location of the restaurant. Their salsa is great. It's got a little bite, but not too much. Perfect for the majority of most Tulsans. I ordered spinach Enchiladas as did my friend. The other person in our party went with Tacos . Everyone's meal was good and there was very little wait time. Our server was cheerful and informative while making sure we had everything we needed. If you go there, ask them to tell you about the history of the restaurant and surrounding area.
The food here is always amazing! Try The chicken Cancun, it's so delicious! I gave service 4 stars because the lady that seated me and my friend wasn't very friendly but the person waiting on our table was amazing! On top of refilling chips and drinks and very friendly! I adore their salsa, it's delicious!
The food and service was fantastic. Our waitress was friendly, cheerful, and ensured my family and me were well taken care of. Thank you for the fun and food.
Very good place! The salsa is very good and the chips are homemade, which makes it even better. I ordered two cheese enchiladas, the enchilada sauce was very good and had a lot of flavor! The rice was a bit bland, and so were the beans. The service was okay, our waitress only checked on us twice, to get our drink order and to deliver our food. We had to ask the other waitresses to refill our drinks, and for the check. It is definitely has very good food at an decent price!
We ate many chips because service was kind of slow. Waiter was working really hard but they probably needed more help
Its hard to find gteat giod as well as service and presentation. But this place definatly exceeded.my expectations. They had steady business yet remained polite. Its a little bit of a wait for the food. But the quality is worth it. The atmosphere in there was nice as well for conversation. Enjoy the pucture from our meals.
Food was great. Unfortunately, service was very lacking. This could be a good place to eat, if the service was better. One waitress had things together and tried to help the others, we still enjoyed our time together.
The Stacked Enchiladas with the Cilantro Cream sauce was Awesome!! And don't forget the $0.99 cent house margaritas!!
Clean establishment. Attentive wait-staff.
Adequate servings.
House Rita is only $1.99
Beautifully served. Handicapped parking
We looove this Mexican restaurant! Tried both white and yellow queso but agree all around that the yellow queso is the best!
