In my opinion...the best restaurant in Tuscaloosa. I’ve never had a bad meal there. And Sandra BY FAR is my favorite server ever!! We always ask for her.
I had the lasagna of the day, their Sicilian Lasagna. Probably the best lasagna ever for me. My wife and I split the white chocolate bread pudding which was yummo!
I used to say you couldn’t find decent Italian food south of Philadelphia. Depalma’s is another exception!
The service was impeccable, our server was Piper, the food was the best Italian I’ve ever had, and the atmosphere was just perfect! Highly recommend eating here if you get the chance!
A little loud but the food is outstanding! Best breadsticks on the planet. A must stop if in Tuscaloosa! Normally about a 25 minute wait, every night and yes it is worth the wait!
My wife and I really enjoy coming here. We drive 50 miles one-way but don’t mind the drive because the food, service, and overall atmosphere is always first-class.
Only been here twice but both times I have had nothing but a great experience with both the food and the service. Our waiter was busy but still stayed in top of everything (As a former waitress I appreciate how hard that is) and was always courteous. Can't wait to go back.
Awesome food here, flavors, freshness, and variety of dishes on the menu are outstanding ! Excellent Italian cuisine is served by superbly friendly and courteous staff.
We love Italian food and eat it often, we were not expecting to be impressed...but we were!! Everything from the Feta cheese bake appetizer to the summery limoncello marscapone cake was delicious!! Our waiter Chris gave us impeccable service.
Delicious food, nicely presented, reasonably priced. A small place and a bit noisy, but not so much that conversations are difficult. The historic building provides great character and an overall memorable dining experience!
Amazing food! Great atmosphere! Price was reasonable. Will definitely love to come at some point.

Love this place!! Wonderful food, good service and a great location!!
Of course everything we've ever ordered there was delicious. Our favorite things are the spinach fetticine, the bread and homemade ranch salad dressing!!❤️👍🏻
Great food and great service. I was visiting UA and stopped to get lunch with my dad because I had looked up best places to eat in Tuscaloosa.
This place honestly has some of the best Italian food in the south. I've been going here since I was a small child, and it has yet disappoint me. Always great food with great service. A Tuscaloosa classic.
This was so good!!!! I love Italian and Depalma's was delicious! Really great service friendly! Loved the location and the restaurant! I could see the guys throwing around the pizza dough. Amazing food...will be back:)
We went here for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised! Great service the whole time. The bread sticks were to die for, marinara sauce was delicious and the pastas were awesome. Finally the bread pudding was some of the best I've had. Definitely will be returning to try the pizza!
My husband had a cheese cannoli and raved about it! They have super good bread pudding , although it's not the traditional with sauce, but VERY good! Great meal, great service!! Would highly recommend this place!! Not bad prices either!
When it comes to Depalma's Italian Cafe, I am biased. Just wanted to get that out of the way before I begin this review. This is my absolute favorite restaurant and I cannot figure out how after living in Tuscaloosa for almost 5 years, I did not partake in the luxury of DePalma's Italian Cafe until after I had moved away.
Depalma's is a fabulous restaurant. I usually get a pizza, (best pizzas in town), but I have been here so much that I have tried a bunch of stuff on the menu. The service is second to none. Be prepared to wait on nights and weekends, they can get pretty crowded. This is in my top 3 restaurants of Tuscaloosa.
THE greatest in Tuscaloosa. This has been my number one since attending a dinner for my friend's birthday a few years back. The service is always great. The ambience is perfect. The food is always breathtaking. Awesome for date nights and weekends. I can't recommend this place enough. It's the greatest.
Amazing. I go here all the time, and refuse to get anything other than the Gorgonzola filet.
Fantastic! And not as expensive as it looks. We got out, with drinks, for under $30 with two people. Always order their lasagna of the day, it's to die for.
Good food, a little pricey, but a very dirty place. I don't understand the bad food reviews here about depalmas, I have never had bad food there, although I agree it is way overpriced, or at least quit charging me for everything separately, , like a side salad, thats free almost everywhere else, nickel and dime me to death.. My problem is that it is just dirty- sticky floors, sticky tables, the kitchen looks absolutely filthy, the place needs to close for a few days and be scrubbed top to bottom, it doesn't look like it's ever been cleaned. Also, many tables and chair rock and are unstable, these are restaurant 101 issues they should be on top of. When I see dust everywhere, dirty floors, rickety tables, it does not inspire confidence and I demand better. I agree management seems extremely lax, and getting your food can take literally forever, but I have to say it has always been fresh and good, I just can't trust a place that never cleans. And to note and comply with urbanspoon guidelines I am not raising "health dept" issues, I am talking about things you can plainly see walking through and sitting in their place. I have no idea whats in their walk in. I am saying it is a very poorly cleaned and dirty place with shaky tables, visible dust, etc. If depalmas spent 1/10 the time and effort cleaning they spend begging urbanspoon to get this review deleted over and over there would be no need for this review.
I had been told this was the best place in town. After lunch here I would have to agree. Great atmosphere. Perfect service. Wonderful fresh food. Will definitely be back and soon. Our server was Adrian and he was outstanding!
Deliciousness!. My husband & I have heard for years how great this restaurant was & it did not disappoint us one bit. We split 2 appetizers, the three cheese tort (ricotta, feta & parmesan cheese filled with layers of sun dried tomatoes and pesto) which was super delicious tasting and the pizzarotti (thin crust pizza brushed with olive oil and topped with gorgonzola cheese & walnuts) which to quote my granddaughter -Yummo! and one entree which was featured that day, a vegetable lasagna. which was delicious indeed. My husband had a glass of pino which he really liked. The server, Joey was phenomenal, he kept the meal paced well and offered a lot of great suggestions which we did take. The atmosphere was very welcoming and intimate. We were too full for desert but were told that their white chocolate bread pudding is fabulous, Oh well something more to try when we return with more friends to taste this fabulous restaurant and its menu. .
This is one of my favorites! Me and my husband eat here almost every date night. I have never had a bad meal, I love the Mediterranean pasta. Not sure what's with all recent bad reviews? I've never had a bad experience and recommend this place to everyone. I do know that DePalma's doesn't deliver you can only get it delivered through a delivery service. Wait staff has always been very attentive. Bottom line, I love DePalma's'
Filetto. Not bad. They did a good rare but the sear was a bit weak. The asparagus was a bit bitter too.
Classic. I have been a loyal customer of DePalma's since the day they opened in Tuscaloosa. They are good at what they do, and don't try to pretend to be anything else. It is an active noisy restaurant, but one that is enjoyed.
I've been here a bunch of times and I must say, I have never experienced a negative issue. Everything has always been top notch, from the food to the service! With that being said, I usually personalize a pizza ( I love pizza ) and I can never leave without there bread pudding. It's second to none!! 9 out of 10.
Super good Italian food. Kevin waited on us and was a great server. We had the carnivore pasta and it was delish! Very friendly atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone.
Oh and one more thing War Eagle haha
Delicious foood, but could have better service.. If you are looking for a classy-casual place to dine in T-town, this is a good place for you. My food was amazing. It was a bit pricey, but delicious, nonetheless. The service was a bit sub-par. For the price, I would expect better. That said, I have only been once, so maybe it was just a bad night. I would still recommend the place, and want to return!
One of my favorites. One of my favorite places in Tuscaloosa.
Just went here tonight with my parents for a before-graduation dinner. The place looked packed so I dropped them off while I parked. By the time I got there not even 5 mins later, they were already seated! They ordered a pizza and I had the Pasta DePalma, both of which were absolutely delicious and arrived pretty quickly for it being so busy. Also, with the Pasta DePalma, they are not skimpy with the cheese and chicken. Bring an appetite.
Definitely visiting whenever I'm back in town in the future!
Always quality. Don't know how they do it for the price (but, shhh, don't tell them!) Stuffed shells are a great choice. Arrive early or expect a wait any night of the week.
Pasta DePalma is oh my God good!!
Consistently good. I'm not a big "Italian food" eater and of course, DePalma's isn't "authentic Italian food" but it IS good. It's also consistent. I've eaten here many, many times and it's always the same. It's a good go-to spot because I know what to expect. No weird surprises. Atmosphere is loud because everyone is drunk. Which is awesome. Prices are moderate at best. If you don't get any booze a couple can leave for $30 - after tip (ordering tactfully, that is). And the food is good. Again - consistency. One of the cheaper entrees just happens to be my favorite, and it's the restaurant's namesake - the Pasta DePalma - Angel hair pasta baked in a fresh rosemary cream sauce with garlic, ricotta, rosemary, and oregano. Topped with mushrooms, mozzarella, and your choice of ham, chicken, Italian sausage, or artichoke hearts. The rosemary cream sauce is where it's at. Get it. The place get's a little crowded for sure, but it seems more crowded than it is because the entrance is also the bar. And the host/hostess station. And the waiting area. And that's where the register is. Yeah... but hey, it's an old building, give em a break. Go about an hour or two before they close and it's really not that bad. Anyway, I love DePalma's.
The food was absolutely exceptional. The florentine calzone was to die for. The chocolate and raspberry bread pudding was exquisite. I live in Jackson, MS but whenever passing through the Tuscaloosa area, I will definitely return to DePalma's!
I went yesterday for the first time and it was a great experience! The Florentine calzone was awesome! I definitely recommend checking this place out.
Love!. I love this little hole in the wall! They recently underwent renovations and I have not been in since, so I am excited to see what they may have done! Definitely better Italian food than some of those big chains!!! Try something out of your comfort zone and I promise you will not be disappointed. I think it is reasonably priced to where even the college students in town can afford. A gorgeous little spot in downtown Tuscaloosa!!
Great place! Their daily specials offer something new and exciting! Defiantly worth a try
Good Food...but Needs to Expand. I have only eaten at DePalma's half the times I have tried, because most of the time there is a long wait for a table. When I have eaten the food has been very good, but they need to expand so they can serve more people and shorten the wait.
One of Tuscaloosa's BEST. Never had a bad meal here from pasta to the Gorgonzola Filet. If you go at peak times like Friday night, expect a wait. You will not be disappointed. Pasta DePalma with Chicken is fabulous!
Great resturant. A good wine list. Fantastic Italian food. The pan seared pork loin with eggplant and mushroom risotto is a Platonic dish. (Moist; salty goodness.) A different lasagna each night. (Comfort food for adults with jaded palates.) A bread pudding to die for. The only thing this restaurant needs is a license to serve hard liquor.
If it wasn't inTuscaloosa...thumbs down. I can't pan a perfectly good restaurant with decent food. But the service is terrible. But then again, Tuscaloosa is not known for great service because of the dim-wit college kids that are employed.
I choose to blame the service issues on the servers (and maybe the cooks) and remember the delish pasta I have had in the past.
One of the best in Tuscaloosa. Great food, atmosphere, staff and prices. Will certainly come back and share our experience with others. Great value.
Good stuff. Have been once and enjoyed the sausage and peppers very much!
OUTSTANDING meal!! I had the daily lasagna special and it was to die for! The bread pudding is out of this world. We will definitely be back.
The food was delicious, the service was fantastic and very friendly, and the atmosphere is quaint. The inside is very antique looking. I will definitely be returning to this place!

Excellent, inspired versions of Italian mainstays. Enjoyed the homemade pasta with pesto & chicken & florentine calzone. Awesome cannoli & molten chocolate cake. Mackenzie our waitress was perfect. Found it thru Urban spoon... Recommend!
Fantastic. Great place, atmosphere, food, people. the wait was exactly 45 mins... but it was all worth it. try the bread pudding.
The Lasana was the best I've ever had. The food was awesome, atmosphere was bland but I came for the food not the atmosphere. Lots of pizza going out the door so I really need to order one to go. The wife had the sausage and pepper and really enjoyed that. Good food reasonable priced so a must do restaurant.
BEST SHRIMP SCAMPI. WOW!!! This place has the best shrimp scampi! I also love their homemade balsamic vinegarette! Yum yum yum!! Their bread is awesome too. I just love this place. It's about $15+/person but worth it! Great service too!!
7 Meat Lasagna. It's not always on the menu, but if you see it as a special GET IT! Hands down the most flavorful, hearty and best tasting lasagna I've ever had. Huge portion too. Even my constantly starving husband couldn't finish his. I'm drooling just thinking about it!
Food very good. Service fine.. Had the pork medallions and mushroom risotto. Pork was slightly overcooked, but flavor was very good. The pork is better on the pork feast at Taziki's. The risotto was very flavorful and I did love the pieces of eggplant. The risotto did have some clumps in it, but it still tasted great. Antipasta platter was ok. Artichoke hearts were a bit briny for me. Zuchinni was nice, grilled. Enjoyed the salami and prosciutto.
Lady had lemon caper veal with pasta. She liked it a lot. I thought the lemon caper was a bit strong. Though I did think the veal was better than the veal at GianMarco's.
My lady left her wallet in the car and they refused to give her a glass for a bottle of wine. We cancelled the bottle. I understand it's the law, but i'm not ordering a natty/busch/rex goliath. Oh well, that was the only seroius downside to the meal. I'll be back anyway.
The best restaurant in Tuscaloosa! The Pasta Depalma is to die for!!!
I am in love with DePalma's.. DePalma's is one of my favorite places in Tuscaloosa. One time, I forgot to check the price on the tortellini (as it was one of the specials), ran up a huge bill, and basically did not care. I love the atmosphere of this place, it's so wonderfully romantic. Very busy on Saturday nights, though.
YOU MUST GET THE THREE CHEESE TORT as an appetizer. It is amazing. Also, the Pasta DePalma is another one of my favorite things on the menu. Yummy rosemary flavored pasta, wow.
Good Environment, Good Food. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Tuscaloosa. I love the atmosphere and the food. Their menu has a wide price range. If you want to go and get a cheap, casual meal, you can, but also you can spend in the range of $15-$30 if you want on an entree item.
Pasta DePalma!!!. Pasta DePalma with sausage and artichoke hearts has been my favorite meal in all of Tuscaloosa for quite a while now. Healthy portions, affordability and atmosphere contribute in making DePalma's the best Italian in town. Try the Seafood Lasagna (when available)if you want to try something new.
LOVE this place. Best place for Italian food in Tuscaloosa, and the best bang for your buck, the building is also very neat, I recommend the pasta Depalma
Whoa!. My girlfriend and I took the drive out to Tuscaloosa to try their pizza - the absolute best I've ever eaten anywhere in Alabama - fabulous! She now cannot live without their chocolate bread pudding - it was wonderful!
Great ambiance & consistently good food. Ask for Kevin if you want exceptional service.
DePalma's is GREAT!. This is an incredible restaurant in Tuscaloosa. The variety of pastas, pizzas, salads, and antipasta platters is sure to please all. You must go to Depalma's. GREAT FOOD. GREAT SERVICE. GOOD PRICES.
Love that old place I get pizza all the time. Great stuff can't go wrong with the food and the service.
My favorite Italian place! Drive over an hour to eat here since I've now moved away from Tuscaloosa. Homemade pizza, pasta, and calzones. So good and prices are very reasonable.
Great homemade pizza & pasta!
My Favorite in T-town. Depalmas is the first of the independent restaurants in downtown T-town. It is still my favorite and it is the one I bring people from out of town. Get the pizza or any of the pastas.
Best pizza & service in town. Very good italian food located in the historic area of downtown tuscaloosa. Decor is small town retro eclectic, quirky and unpretentious. Food is good & presented well. Inexpensive but good quality wine list & bar drinks. Honest warm friendly service. (When ordering a pizza to go I was first offered a glass of wine I declined because I was driving and then a glass of water & a comfy chair to wait.) Diners can add their "was here" signatures on the wine bottles along the wall. New York style pizza with your choice of typical or gourmet toppings. The large is the size of a car tire! Great value for price/quality and honest southern hospitality. You are always a special guest here.
I have eaten here multiple times and have NEVER had a bad experience...LOVE IT!!!
... the mushroom ravioli. The filling was tasty and the cheeses were tangy with the musky flavor that the mushrooms bring. However, I disliked the amount of oil that the ravioli came soaked in. It wasn’t really a sauce and it made them seem greasy. The real star of the menu were their homemade meatballs. I only ordered them because the people at the table next to me got them and they looked amazing.
Shrimp, garlic, Italian parsley, roasted red pepper, white wine, olive oil ,butter, bread crumbs, lemon zest served over a full order of angel hair pasta tossed in garlic butter and parmesan Everything tasted great! After dinner I came home and went straight to bed. I was sleepy and knew I needed my rest for today. Later this afternoon I am headed to Huntsville for a bachelorette party! But first I need to clean up around the apartment and pack. I hope everyone has a lovely Saturday!
I've been raving about this place forever... and I can't believe it took me this long to do a review! SPINACH FETTUCCINE ALFREDO WITH CHICKEN AMBIANCE: This is such a transitional space. I've visited the restaurant in the daytime while families with small children enjoy a family meal as well as at night when couples dine in a dimly lit dining room romanticized by candlelight. SPINACH FETTUCCINE ALFREDO WITH CHICKEN RED SAUCE & ONIONS & OLIVES TABLE SERVICE: Some of the best! I can't remember one visit in which I had an unpleasant encounter. The staff is always courteous and attentive...very knowledgeable of the menu and the kitchen capabilities. PESTO CHICKEN PIZZA THE MENU: Full of amazing Italian dishes! My favorite began with the Shells Florentine with chicken. I've since branched out to the Spinach Fettuccine Alfredo and I'm certainly madly in love with the White Chocolate Bread Pudding! I don't think you can go wrong with any menu choice . TUSCAN CALZONE THE VERDICT: I think you c
We stopped in Tuscaloosa while heading home after visiting family in Monroe, Louisiana (yes, I know its Duck Dynasty country – but we didn’t have time to take the tour). The joys of the internet age during a road trip just keep getting better. We didn’t have time to finish the drive home so planned ahead on where to stop overnight. After booking our hotel room we began looking for a place to eat and quickly narrowed the field down to two restaurants. The obvious first choice for us once we reviewed the menus was DePalma’s Italian Café in downtown Tuscaloosa. We had a few hours of driving yet which just about killed us! We were listening to a book on CD and would randomly talk about what we thought we would order once we arrived – the book was never the same after that, haha! There was a little hiccup finding the hotel (weird, I know) and we were rushing at this point in a near feeding frenzy mindset.
Waiter was attentive and friendly. Food was cooked perfectly and fresh. We went there on a Saturday at about 4:45 p.m., and we were seated immediately. Crowd tends to increase at about 5:30 p.m. DePalma's never disappoints. We had the Lobster Ravioli special, the Carnivore Lasagna special, and the Polermo Calzone as well as the Baked Feta. For dessert we had the bread pudding, which is melt in your mouth scrumptious. A Tuscaloosa favorite!
Good Italian restaurant in town for those living in tuscaloosa. Good atmosphere and good food. I liked that the food was not too salty.
That authentic italian smell hits your nostrils when you enter the door. Portions were plentiful and delicious. The braided cheese sticks with meatball & onion and florentine calzoni made for a great lunch! Can't wait to visit again & try other entrees. Yum!
Worth The Wait…..
This place was GOOD! A pretty long Friday night wait but we’ll worth it. The hostess was tremendous and we were seated within minutes of our guesstimate wait time. She was kind, friendly and understanding of everyone that came to her with all different types of “situations”. Handled herself very well under a lot of constant “attention”!
The waiter was accommodating of our needs and answered all our questions about items on the menu and offered guidance towards certain items that we may have been in-between on.
The appetizer of meatballs and mushrooms was bursting with cheesy, earthy goodness. My Caesar salad was hearty with a briny dressing that hit all the right notes. I ordered the mushroom ravioli. It came swimming in this decadent brown butter sauce and fresh basil. The special addition of toasted walnuts took this dish to the next level of flavor composition. Oh, and that damn bread!!!!!!
When in b-ham, do yourself a favor and hit this bad boy up and enjoy the hopping atmosphere and delicious food!!!!!
I am visiting Tuscaloosa with my wife and we decided to try out this restaurant which was recommended to us by a local. If you are looking for a quiet dining experience, this is not the place. It is a large room layout with tables seated fairly close together, but with enough space to have a personal dinner. DePalma's presented a decent variety of food to choose from and this carried over to the wine selection. Overall, I really enjoyed my time here. The staff were knowledgeable about the food they were serving and were very polite. I enjoyed every bit of the meal, from the appetizer, to the dessert. I recommend trying out DePalma's if you have not yet visited.
Came in for a lunch and was struck by how cozy and comfortable it was. It felt like a true local spot. Then the food came... and I was struck again at how fresh and delicious it all was. The pizza, the pasta, all made in house and with obvious passion for the craft.
Our server was fantastic, stayed on top of drink refills and answering our questions. I will be back, with more people to experience a truly good Italian experience in the heart of Tuscaloosa.
The dining area was cozy with wine bottles lining the walls and vintage pictures on the wall. The service was pleasant and the food was excellent. Portion sizes were generous but the real star was the bread pudding. The bread pudding was warm and delicious, I could come back just for that.
