A bunch of friends came here for lunch the other day because we had heard some great things about it. We were given the menu's immediately and gave our drink order. We promptly then ordered our lunch. We were given a bread plate with the most delicious dipping sauce, made out of lemon, garlic and butter. We all fell in love with the baguette and dipping sauce!! I had ordered a Turkey Pannini and it was great as was the cup of Tomato Basil Soup which I paid happily for the upcharge. My friends shared bites of their fried onion strips and homemade sweet potato fries that came with their Shrimp Po-Boys and Open Faced Roast Beef sandwich. The portions were very generous and many of my friends brought 1/2 of their sandwich's home. Our Server was good but I never caught her name. We arrived @ 11:00 am and I was grateful as the place filled up quickly at lunch. I definitely want to take my sweet hubby to this place because it was a great experience!!
This is our favorite restaurant. It is neighborhood friendly with consistent food quality. Love it sine they added the bar area.
You must try the seafood which is Gulf fresh.
Be sure to have berry cobbler for dessert.
This place is definitely off the grid from the usual lunch stop. But a definite winner! They always have available seating and a friendly staff. I enjoy sitting at the open kitchen bar and watching them prepare food. I'm obsessed with the grilled shrimp and fried oysters w/sweet potato fries. I recommend this little vestavia secret to everyone. You will not be disappointed!
Went on a Wednesday evening, Katherine was our bartender, Lance was our waiter. I don't get what some people's issues are! The drinks were great (gin and tonic and I had bourbon on the rocks). The restaurant was full with reservations, but we got in with a party of two around 6:00 on a Wednesday. My wife and I split a delicious salad, she then had the paella and I had the braised short ribs. Both were delicious. Lance made a recommendation for the wine that was a perfect paring. The blueberry cobbler was split and we enjoyed it. And, the service was great (thanks, Lance). We love this place; I just wish we could afford it more often!
This is actually one of my favorite restaurants in Birmingham. The food and service are always great. I have experienced some of the best service here, so I am shocked by some of the other reviewers who state they received bad service. I wholeheartedly disagree. The fish special is always great. Their lunch menu is really good too. It's a great place to take friends or for a business dinner. I've used it for both.
"OUTSTANDING". My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals the other evening. Excellent!!!!!!! I have nothing but great things to say to the chef, "HATS OFF TO HIM/HER". Also, our waiter was could not have been better. We have been to bistro V before and also with friends. Absolutely coming back......
Good food--good attitude. They have awesome chicken salad, crab cakes , veggies and more. Our server was very friendly and our service was excellent. This is our favorite place to eat when we are on that side of town.
Very cool atmosphere esp with the recent addition of the new bar/dining areas. Food is exceptional. The oyster appetizer is enough for 2 to share and the seafood bisque we had recently had a nice kick to it. Topped with crab meat. Wonderful. Weekend brunch GREAT. Crabcakes Benedict, turkey panini sandwich and grilled chicken dishes were so good. Food is fresh, ample portions, love eating here !
Excellent dining experience. The menu was innovative, the food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Look forward to becoming a regular at this establishment.
Great Restaurant. We had a gift certificate so we went and though this place is small, the food is awesome! I got the shrimp and grits and my DH got the paella. Both were very good. We went again and I got the fried shrimp and DH got the mahi mahi..Both were very good and good portions. The bread before the meal is out of this world!
The eggplant appetizer is great. The service was good. But the prices are very high! $12 for a glass of wine!!?? Ouch!! Also, there shrimp risotto is bland and expensive!! Its more like Uncle Ben's than real risotto! Again, the eggplant appetizer was very good...if you love warm goat cheese, like I do. They need to lower tere prices. Bit, though. It's not New York City after all.
Sunday brunch. Great veggie omelet and biscuits! Limited outdoor seating but perfect on a nice day.
Great lunch spot. I had the Bistro V salad and my husband had the Tuscan Chicken sandwich. The salad was good, but I will definitely get the sandwich next time. Great flavors and large portions. Service was great until we were ready for the check. Seemed to be a little understaffed. Not somewhere to go if you are in a hurry.
Great service. We were there 02/12/12 and they were running out of certain items, but the wait staff was excellent. We were there late on Sunday and stayed almost an hour after closing catching up with family from Atlanta and Huntsville. They remained very polite and helpful and the food was excellent. We'll be going again whenever we're in the Birmingham area.
Delicious (but slow). I just dined at Bistro V for the first time. I thought it was wonderful! I had the Tuesday lunch special, which was chicken pot pie with a mixed greens salad. They were both very good. My dad had the grilled shrimp plate with marinated slaw and turnip greens. He said it was all very delicious. It is a little pricey, but we thought it was worth it for the quality of the food. We cannot wait to go back!
UPDATE: I went back to Bistro V for the third time today. I am still a huge fan of their chicken pot pie (which they ran out of soon after I got my order). I knew that the service was fairly slow, but today the service was just plain awful. Our waiter got our drink orders wrong and we were constantly waiting on him to refill drinks, bring us our check, etc. They need more wait staff but the waiters that they do have are inattentive. It also seems to throw people off that nobody greets them at the door, because it does not seem like the kind of place where you would seat yourself. It would be nice if someone were at least close by to tell you to have a seat. I will probably still continue to dine here, but I definitely won't go if I'm in a hurry.
UPDATE: Service was MUCH better at Bistro V today! We were in and out in 45 minutes. I hope that they keep up this improvement!
Great Brunch!!!. I must say this was a great decision. Another Broken Egg and Over Easy Packed with too many people and poor service.... Went to Bistro V, sat immediately and food was fantastic. Biscuits and Gravy with eggs were way better than the competition, but the winner was Open faced Roast Beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and onion straws. I was shocked. It was delicious and put so many long time BHM institutions to shame. Great Brunch guys and i look forward to many more in the future! Go hear for brunch and you will not be disappointed.
Fantastic cuisine at Bistro V. I was stunned to read bad reviews of Bistro V. I couldn't help but think that there was something else going on that caused these review. But Bistro V dishes are creative, fresh, flavorful and beautifully served. We take out-of-town guest there. It is a great place to eat lunch; the waiters are especially nice at the lunch time. In the evening we once had a problem with service. This summer we enjoyed the peach salad, the chicken salad and the tasty tomato soup. We love Bistro V; we are glad that it is in Vestavia; we highly recommend it.
Best food for the price in Birmingham. Having eaten at A majority of Birmingham restaurants this one has great prices and filling and appetizing food. I had the shrimp and grits which was perhaps the best I've had, and the chocolate chip bread pudding was unique and sooooo good. Highly recommend for a weeknight dinner.
FRESH!. First time-had been meaning to try--so pleased!
My husband and I split the grit cake with shrimp and mushrooms.Crispy, creamy contrasts.Yummy. Next we shared the bibb salad with Maytag, apples and pecans.Dressed with the perfect vinaigrette So good.He loved the fettucine. Said usually when pasta has so many ingredients, he doesn't like one of them, but this was great. Well, my grouper over a bed of succotash was delicious. Fresh, fresh--as in straight from the sea and garden. Innovative combination of veggies. First I thought it had portobello mushrooms in it, then maybe eggplant--no the waiter said it was roasted zucchini--and was it tasty! We shared the peach cobbler--reminded me of clafouti or buckle--mmmm!
Witt provided us with great service.
One suggestion--lower lighting in the evening would be nice.
This dinner was a combination French bistro/Southern grandmother's table--can't beat that.
Hidden in Plain Sight-. After seeing the carousel of restaurants over the past few years in the space that is occupied by Bistro V, I never gave this place a shot.
Fast forward to this months B Metro magazine review, and a missed church Sunday (thanks Spring forward), my fiance and I decided it was overdue for a visit.
Thanks to Spring break we were able to walk in and sit down immediately.
I immediately ordered the steak and eggs (after the glowing review in B Metro)- Side note- I have an aversion to eggs for some reason, however, I LOVE steak. I was determined to break my streak of breads for breakfast.
My steak and eggs arrived, along with real fried potatoes, and a tomato. UNBELIEVABLE. Every item on the plate surpassed my expectations.
The steak was cooked perfectly- the eggs where actually pretty good. I was more surprised with the "small " guys- the tomato and potatoes. I was expecting the consistency to drop off after the steak and eggs, but was shocked- the tomato was seasoned perfectly while the potatoes were the best I have had ( not too tough- ).
Surprised there has not been more chatter about this place. Will definitely be back again!
I had the shrimp & grits and it was very good. The service was quick and on top of it. Loved the atmosphere too. We ate outside &itwas nice. We will be back.
Amazing food. The veal and ribeye are to die for! Great service and we will be back again for sure.
Date Night. Love this place before and now! My wife and I go there for Date night. love eating outside and watching the world go by. food is good, service is good and the deserts are dangerous. My wife always gets the fish of the day which is fresh due to the fact a fishmonger is three doors down and has yet to be disappointed.
Fresh seafood, friiendly waitstaff, fabulous food. Have enjoyed Bistro V since it opened. Seafood as fresh as if you live on the Gulf coast, here in Birmingham.
Gourmet dishes at reasonable prices.
Yum yum!. I have been there a few times and it is always so yummy! The Chilton County Peach salad is de-lish! :)
Bistro V. One of the very best in B`ham. Excellent food prepared carefully and with imagination at a competetive price. Many dishes inspired by food from the Gulf Coast with wonderful seafood and eggplant dishes! Some of thje best menus from Bayou La Batre and my home town of New Orleans! I plan on returning again and again! Very highly recommended with love and kisses!
The shrimp and grits are off the hook. A+. Everything we had was excellent. Highly recommended.
V for Victory in Vestavia. This place is a winner, to me. My lunchmate, by all accounts a fine chef herself, recommended it. Geographically, I think it might qualify as the Northernmost eatery in Vestavia Hills, ( just an afterthought). It's clean through and through, from the floors, tables, walls and windows, to the fried oysters and grilled grouper we enjoyed, attentive service, too. I don't frighten easily, and upon hearing they drive to and fro' to the Gulf of Mexico on a daily basis for fish retrieval, I was excited. I can vouch for the quality of it on 23 June, 2010. We dined 6 hours ago, and I feel fine.
my rating: VVVV { 4 out of a possible 5 V's }
I can't say enough about Bistro V! My husband & I have decided on 2022 that we were going to try new restaurants in the area. We've passed this one a million times but visited our 1st time in Valentine’s Day for dinner. Make a reservation:) The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for lively conversation. The food was amazing! Seafood lovers, start with the lobster bisque. Francisco's Paella, Prime rib, Crab stuffed Lobster tail and the short ribs were all cooked to perfection and seasoned well! Both servers were really friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. Lastly, say yes to dessert! The blueberry cobbler and strawberry shortcake made us forget that we were already full, lol! This might be our favorite new spot in Jefferson County!
This was my first visit to Bistro V. I thought the food and service were both excellent. I had the fried shrimp Po boy with slaw. My wife had the Cobb salad with fried chicken broth of the dishes were very good. I would highly recommend Bistro V.
We made a reservation and were seated within 5 minutes. We ordered the Filet (butterflied Med-rare) and the Fettuccine. We also ordered calamari and shrimp as an appetizer. Everything was delicious. The house Chardonnay was also very good. Can't wait to go back.
Waited a little long for a table without acknowledgement BUT once we were seated our waitress was Fabulous (didn't get her name 😔) we had the Cobb Salad and Crab Cake Entree...Excellent! Great Service, Delicious Food, Can't wait to go back!!!!
We booked online and were seated 10 minutes before our actual reservation. Service was friendly, knowledgeable, and speedy. There was no point where we felt neglected by the staff. Our drinks were mixed perfectly and the environment only added to our experience. We highly recommend Bistro V.
Thank you Ashley for taking such great care of us and our friends from Texas this evening! The oysters and shrimp appetizer, the lobster ravioli, the filet and drinks were all superb!
I kinda was driving by, did not check any reviews... Lots of cars were parked outside and it was busy (I was super hungry)... I decided to take a chance (old school way)... I can immediately tell that this place is a local hangout... The food is exceptional. I had the grilled Fish PoBoy... It was awesome... Great local gem, glad I stopped by... I am already looking forward to by next visit...
Great food. One of the servers needs to check the attitude but the rest of them were wonderful. The one may have been having a bad day.
