This place is amazing, the food is good and the service is fast. It’s a bonus that they label their tea “plain” and “sweet” because there is no such thing as unsweetened tea. Sweetening is an action, you can’t unsweeten tea, that’s just how it comes.
Whitner's has a slogan - "It's all good!" I have found that to be 100% accurate. Everything I've had there has been really great. Warren and his crew are amazing and I highly recommend you try the spicy sausage plate. Yummy!
The ribs were really good, probably some of the best baked beans and the Mac n cheese was really good. Probably some of the best bbq in Virginia.
Some of the best bbq I’ve ever had. Only other place I’ve had similar quality was in Georgia. Probably the only thing I’m going to miss from Virginia when I move.

Whitner's BBQ is "ALL GOOD!" Last Thanksgiving they catered our family meal and it was delicious. We recommend them to all of our friends. Try the "Burnt Ends" that are amazing.
Went here today for the very first time and let me just say it was AMAZING! First off, the staff was super helpful! Let me just talk about the brisket......it was a total mouthgasm!!!!!.....this was both when I first ate hot and also a few hours later when I reheated it!!!!! All the sides were really good too, I got dirty rice, cole slaw, and potato salad, every bite was great and their sweet bar-b-q sauce!!!!!! Omg!!!!!!!!

This place is fantastic, I love coming here for lunch and my favorite thing to get is the smoked quarter chicken with the gold sauce. I usually get it with the dirty rice and potato salad. The chicken is smoked nicely, it's always juicy and gold bbq sauce is smackin good! A great Lynnhaven staple for sure. You know I'll be Back
Hot, fresh and delicious! I am always impressed with the quality of their bbq and that amazing smoke smell in the restaurant really sets the tone for what you are about to experience. I got the Burnt End Sandwich with mac n cheese and coleslaw. Everything was delicious and fresh. I also ordered a pork sandwich to-go and destroyed that shortly after coming home and the it still tasted just as fresh as being in the store.
Allnof their sauces are on pint as well!! Definitely worth a try, if you haven't.
Epic! Delicious meat and sides! You can tell some real time went into the preparation of all the meat. The sides were equally tasty and the service was top notch. The food came out quick. At each table there’s multiple flavors of BBQ sauces to choose from so you can add a little extra zest or just try new things. Overall it was a great experience and I’m looking forward to coming here again!

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the majority of food here. I got the pulled pork, burnt ends, and brisket. I also got macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes for sides.
The pulled pork was by far my favorite, they let the meat speak for itself and didn't drown it in BBQ sauce. The burnt ends were also decent, though I did not care for the style of BBQ sauce that was used. Unfortunately, the same BBQ sauce was also used on the brisket. The brisket was decently tender, but was too thickly cut and too dry for my liking. The mac and cheese was probably my least favorite part, it clearly was a pre-made dish that was warmed up as opposed to trying to have a decent side provided. Thankfully, the mashed potatoes fared much better, the gravy tasted fantastic and the mashed potatoes themselves had a good flavor. My only critique is leaving the skins on, but that is just a personal preference.
I'd definitely visit again, but would probably limit myself to the pulled pork only and potentially explore a different side option.

Our first time, we asked a few questions and the man behind the counter actually came around and talked to us for a bit. We got the back story of the place and the “behind the scenes” stuff too!
Our food has always come out hot and the way we order it. It always tastes so good. SO GOOD.
We were bummed when Jake's closed last year so we were looking for a new BBQ place when we come down on vacation, Whitner's hit the spot. Everything was excellent, the food came out super quick, my group had a large plate of the pulled chicken, a pulled pork sandwich, and a red hot sausage sandwich. The portion sizes were large and the prices were good. For the three of us with drinks it was $40. They have BBQ sauces at the table for variety but we just went with the sauce that came on the plates. Everyone behind the counter was very friendly and they checked up on us halfway through to see if we needed anything. We will definitely be back next year, I would highly recommend this place.
This place is insanely good. We found it with a Groupon and now we always bring our out of town guests here. I have always had the chicken which is delish, and tries the ribs for the first time today. Holy cow, the best ribs I have ever had. I will definitely be ordering those more! In short, this place is totally worth finding it in the looks-can-be-deceiving strip mall it is in.
Best barbecue I’ve had here. Been here for 30 years and they bring it. Will definitely come back. Friendly service and great food! This is the food we ordered to-go because we wanted to eat more later😂
Good BBQ! We had the Wet Spare Ribs and Pulled Chicken, with Potatoe Salad and Mac'n Cheese. I enjoyed it very much, everything was nice, soft and moist, good quality meat, my wife thought the vinegar taste of the meat was a bit strong but I didn't, the staff was very helpful and friendly also
Great food the Burnt Ends were so good....3 hour drive worth it!!
They have your normal bbq meats but they mix up the combination of the meats and toppings to make it amazing! We didn’t expect it to be this good. Pulled chicken was good. Burnt ends good. Greens good! Max and cheese good! Cornbread good. The price is amazing too!! $20 filled me and my son up and took some home!
Just ate there for the first time this afternoon. Food was delicious. We had pulled pork and pulled chicken with green beans, potato salad and collard greens. Some of the best in collards that I've had anywhere!
Unfortunately, as we left we saw a sign that they will be closing at the end of September. Really sorry to see.😢
