This place is a hidden gem in hampton roads. By far the best sushi place, in my opinion—not only is it amazing quality every time, but it’s honestly a bit underpriced compared to other places in the area that don’t have the same quality. The chef(s) are incredible—and everyone is always SO nice when you come in. I’m a bit of an homebody and generally get the food to-go, but the place is so charming and quiet too. Beautiful and calming atmosphere. Amazing food, amazing service, amazing quality. I’ll rave about this place forever. Please check this place out. My pictures don’t do it justice but food is so pretty. Much love to this place.
Excellent sushi! very fresh! I had an absolutely delightful experience at this sushi restaurant! The ambiance was cozy, and the service was impeccable. The star of the show, of course, was the sushi – it was incredibly fresh and beautifully presented. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and the variety of rolls and sashimi was impressive. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu. If you're a sushi lover, this place is a must-visit!
Very delicious and the service was good as well. Definitely coming back to try more dishes.
I cannot say enough about the food here. The restaurant was packed, with very good reason.
My son and hubby got the spicy miso ramen and spicy seafood udon bowls. Very comforting for that rainy day, and just what they needed (and I got a taste of each - Mmmm…).
We also had several sushi rolls and they were top notch. The flavors, the freshness, it was just such a treat to have authentic Japanese cuisine.
If you’re looking for some excellent sushi and Japanese fare, this is the spot!
I only wish we lived nearby!!
Food and service was top tier. I’m so happy that I found this place. All of the food was made fresh with lots of flavor. Portions were a good standard size. We had a party of 6 and not one person was dissatisfied. EVERYTHING was delicious. They even have the good type of white ginger, not pink. The baby was happy too. I will be coming back in the future!!

This was my husband and I first time at Sakatomo Sushi and it was great! We ordered the Sashimi Deluxe 2 to share and it was delicious. We came on a Monday night around 7 and it wasn’t very busy for dining in but they did have a lot of take out orders which caused them to be behind but they were very accommodating and offered us a free appetizer and dessert. They didn’t have to do that we were fine waiting, there customer service is great and we are definitely returning!
Customer service was exceptional and the food was very fresh and delicious! The quality was high and the atmosphere was so authentic that I felt like I was in Japan again. The family working there is so sweet and kind. Must check this place out :)
The dinner started off little rocky. No one came to greet us or gave us menus for about 10 minutes. Just when I thought about leaving, a server came over and took our drink order and brought over menus. From there, the service was great. Food was delicious and the lady, who seemed to be the owner was extremely nice.
This place is an out of the way bright spot in the neighborhood. Love coming here and always have a great experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and the staff are genuine and efficient. The food is delicious. One of our favorite places!
Every time me and the wife eats here it's like eating the most freshest fish made for sushi and it just never feels like it's rolled in a hurry. Their rolls are fresh and is an understatement when I say this. Anyone who eats sushi or never have would definitely love this place. It's like eating sushi made from the motherland. Love their hospitality and their customer service. The restaurant is super clean and me and the wife love the environment were in while enjoying our sushi made from one of THE BEST sushi Masters in Virginia Beach ... Never a disappointment when we eat here!.
Highly recommend! Food is very good. This was my first time at this place and I’ll absolutely be back.
We are glad to find this place! Ken and Lindsay are very kind. We enjoy their company and the customer service they provide. I brought my family here to remind us of the sushi in Hawaii. This is a family oriented restaurant and I continue to dine here because of the quality of the food whether it is the sushi or the ramen, you can't go wrong with either. Ken and Lindsay are hard-working individuals that ensure that you are taken care of. This place is a "go to place" for me and my family due to their quality and customer service. We enjoy the signature sushi rolls to include the regular sashimi and nigiri rolls. Their ramen is the closest to authentic it can be, which my kids enjoy. We never leave hungry and the environment is very welcoming! Thank you Ken and Lindsay for what you do! We are glad to meet you and very happy we found you! I would give this restaurant 500 stars :-)
Lovely ramen place, sushi is good as well. My only gripe was the 2 times I've come the wait for the food was really long close to an hour the 1st, and almost 30mins just to order the 2nd, it wasn't really busy either time. Maybe 2-3 other tables not including mine. Food is delicious though! Definitely could use more help as far as service.
The food was absolutely fantastic but it did take quite a while (an hour) to get our food. I would absolutely recommend this place again, if you have time to wait and hang out. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious!
Enjoyed our lunch here while visiting VA Beach. The place was pretty packed - the couple did their best to accommodate everyone but looks like they could use another server. Satisfied overall. Their cucumber salad was a great appetizer and most sushi and sashimi were fresh. Don’t get their fried cheesecake though. I was a bit disappointed.
This is such a cute spot.. I loved the atmosphere. Super clean and friendly staff. Food came out fresh and was absolutely delicious. We had the sashimi tuna, volcano & California sushi rolls, and the spicy miso Ramen this place is a must try!!!
I had the Sashimi Deluxe for take out, but I only remembered to take a picture after I tasted a piece of every fish except the octopus...
The fishes almost melted in my mouth, they tasted fresh with a bit of sweetness. I still think I had the best sashimi in Hawaii but this definitely comes close. This meal came with a small portion of miso soup and salad. I asked for some rice but wasn't charged extra, the rice have the right amount of stickiness and tasted sweet.
It was about 20 minutes wait from ordering to ready for pickup. I paired the sashimi with some dry Riesling from Washington and it was an excellent meal.
This restaurant is very close to my house so I come here often and I plan to continue coming here because the staff is very friendly and traditional. My favorite roll to get is the Cajun roll and they have unlimited hot green tea that will always be refilled when getting low or getting cold. Their miso soup is perfect, I make sure to note that because I used to love Yama but they don't even include the scallions anymore and their bean paste is off... Their food is quality and the sushi chef (ONE chef!) Crafts the roles carefully and they never seem rushed because the quality is so high, despite him being the only one making the rolls even when it's busy. this place actually makes me want to explore other items on the menu that aren't just sushi! Also I always get a complimentary piece of ice cream for dessert if you ever get that and you have the green tea sip the green tea with the ice cream still in your mouth, it is an amazing treat!!
*Update as of 7/10 I always go there for lunch and i love the service and food. Today was the first day I came for dinner and had different servers. I was not happy. I tried to get some soy sauce but the top wasn't tightened so the top fell over and almost whole thing spilled all over the table and all over my kid. We had to go to bathroom to clean it. We always sat at the same table never had that issue. Bith servers came out of the kitchen walking towards to main area so I said "excuse me" and both of them stood there starring at me then said "what?" And I wasn't going to scream my problem when there were other diners. We gad to move table, and I was going to give at least 20% tip because I love the food but they didn't even have the decency to apologize and acted like I spilled it all over. I will be going back for lunch only...
Delicious food, somewhat traditional Japanese sitting options and traditional sitting options as well.
