This place is fantastic! The food is beyond expectations. I was very pleasantly surprised considering it's in a strip mall. Everything we ordered was exceptional. The crispy beef is to die for! You won't regret making a trip to try it out!

Amazing! Hot pot is amazing, lunch specials are wonderful and well priced! We have had the same waitress, Kathy twice and she is incredibly informative and an excellent server. Went twice in one week and can’t wait to go back again.

Great clean large restaurant. We got the Hot Pot for 2 and they bring you a huge bowl of broth with all kinds of toppings to put in there. I definitely recommend getting it spicy. More than enough food for two with enough for left overs. The fresh vegetables were great.

Must go to try the HOT POT experience. A unique way to share your meal with family and friends with very delicious food. A HOT Pot of soup will be on your table where you get to select a variety of good veggies and meat to add to the soup of your choice, with great sauces to go with it. You all will be talking about it for months on. Very clean and nice environment. Owner and people are very friendly and good service. A unique experience : Must try if you are in Virginia Beach

Tonight, I ordered the Seafood Crispy Noodle (I forgot the exact menu name) and the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. These two items have been my metric in the quality of Chinese restaurants. The Seafood Crispy Noodle was above par for many reasons. I love the way the crunchy noodles soften up gradually as they are soaked in the sauce. Speaking of the sauce, it was perfectly seasoned so that after cleaning the plate, I didn't have that heavy feeling from overly seasoned food. I find it impressive that the seafood to vegetables ratio is more than other restaurants which means..... More seafood! The shrimps are plump, the scallops are large and the squid is the usual size. If you look closely, the vegetables are so green and fresh too. The Salt and Pepper Shrimp is impressively plenty for the price that we paid. Nothing speaks of a great deal than plenty of large shrimps for a good price. I really love how crunchy the shells were and how moist the shrimp meats are. It's good.

At the beckoning of my Mom, I finally got an opening in my schedule and an opportunity to visit Chengdu. Many factors lead to 5 stars here. The atmosphere is clean, modern and spacious. The happy hour has a large 3 hour window (3:30 -6:30pm daily if I recall). The service was personal and the food was amazing. We ordered the yin yang hot pot. NOTE - they may ask if you wish to remove the seasoning spices before the spicy pot comes to a boil. I recommend getting all the peppercorns and thyme etc fished out of there because it makes for a difficult task to get the little seeds/debris off your finished food. In the hot pot we ordered baby bok choy, mushrooms, chicken, lo mein and wontons. The wontons were house made, which is great but they take about 10 minutes to cook full which means they get really slippery when its time to come out of the pot. We also got the crispy chicken (it comes with a nice white pepper seasoning on the side which compliments quite well) and the sautéed broccoli. We asked specifically for the broccoli cooked in garlic sauce and WOW - this gave me a flashback to the most genuine delicious Chinese food I enjoyed in China Town (NY) as a child. House wine was $5 a glass during Happy Hour. The wine was surprisingly well balanced and complimented the meal very well. I’ve got no complaints about Chengdu. I had a little issue with my option to keep the spicy hot pot side loaded with herbs and seasonings - if you will be quick to enjoy your hot pot food just get them fished out before you start putting them in. One more thing - the wontons would be much better if the house cooked them prior and provided as an appetizer. I’m excited to revisit when in town to check out their extensive menu of Chinese food options! 5 stars!

A restaurant you would want to visit for the experience at least once if not more. When you are seated, you are given a big menu to choose your hot pot ingredients. Veggies, meats, more - waited on by extremely friendly and personal servers. Soon after, a gas-powered hot pot is delivered to your table with your choice of broth that will lightly come to a boil as all of your choices are delivered on individual plates and small bowls for you to cook in your own hot pot. You decide how to cook your meal. It's a treat and considered traditionally to be a lengthy, casual opportunity to eat in a relaxed fashion without rushing while conversing with your meal mates. You should really be into authentic Chinese cuisine when you visit. It's what you're going to get from start to finish. The atmosphere is sparsely decorated but staff is so helpful if you are a newcomer. You'll feel genuinely greeted when you arrive and as you leave. Reasonably priced, it's a nice experience.

It's my first time doing the hot pot but I enjoyed it very much. The soup is very tasty and the ingredients are fresh. We ordered the yin yang soup. One side is spicy and the other is savory. If you enjoy spicy soup then this is your place. Another dish that I tried is their crunchy chicken OMG! It was the best! The skin is crunchy but the meat is tender and moist.

The best hot pot place! Very impressed with quality of their food(Noodle is must try). Their chicken fried rice and fried dumplings are so good too. Little pricey but they give you a lot of food. Drove here from Yorktown to check it out. It was totally worth it. A waitress(I am sorry didn't ask your name) is excellent. 5 start is not enough!

The hot pot food, scallion pancake and chow fun noodles were good. The spring rolls we got were cold in the middle, a bit disappointing. They were short staffed the night we went, so I didn't bother sending back the spring rolls and drink refills were lacking. That being said, I preferred the savory broth over the spicy one. I would definitely go back and try the hot pot again along with some other of their menu items.

Decided to eat here since we were in the shopping center and man, I'm glad we did. What a great little place. They have a 6.99 lunch special menu as well as an extensive full menu. All of the food we had was delicious, the service was prompt and the staff were welcoming and courteous. If you have the hankering for great Szechuan food, give it a go.

I liked it and I'll go back. The food was great. We focused on a seafood hot pot with vegetables and it was a solid choice. Shrimp were whole which might need to change for beginners. Nice mushroom selection as well. Solid vegetarian options as well. Beer on tap included El Guapo which is alwaya a good local choice. Kirin draft would have been a better taste. Next time.

Went with 25 of my closest family members the other night & I have to say I was beyond impressed. Everything was super fresh and large portions. I wish this place was closer to home because I would be here all the time. Do yourself a favor & ignore the reviews from the folks that are comparing this to the food they had in Asia.

Our first visit. Exceeded expectations with fresh Chinese broccoli accompanying the "Hot Pot" with Lo Mein noodles, chicken and shrimp. The service rendered by Kathy and the owner was as special as the food!! We look forward to return visits!!

I arrived not long after they opened to peruse their menu before deciding to stay for lunch. The owner was @ the front counter area & came to greet me. We had a pleasant chat as we discussed the various menu options. I finally settled on a braised lamb dish but what was served was a different lamb dish. I had already taken a few bites from the serving dish when i realized the wood ears were missing. Its not often i come across it in a dish so i was looking forward to it & asked that the ears & the ginger be added to the dish they served up (which had multicolored peppers & was not part of the dish i ordered). The owner was gracious & what came back was a delicious blend of two different dishes with a generous portion of lamb & wood ears. 😋

First Chinese restaurant found with Mapotofu, a delicious spicy tofu dish! The twice cooked pork was also delicious as well as the soup dumplings and pot stickers. We didn't get to try the hot pot, maybe next time. And for those of you who like Asian beer, they had kirin on draft! Merry Christmas!!

My outlook on my first visit: This place is one for the money! Love that the Hampton Roads area is becoming more diverse in Chinese cuisine. There is very little options to choose from in our area, and very little competition. Most know Peter Chang to have spicy Szechuan dishes but it lacks the authenticity that this place has! You will be amazed of how different Cheng du restaurant is compared to the others. I'm one to embrace a wide variety of food and open to trying new things. We started with the Duck Blood dry pot... Duck Blood dry pot is for the adventurous of heart! You would think BLOOD.. but why?! My Chinese foreign exchange students are originally from the Szechuan province, one particularly is from Cheng du. This is a dish that is known in their area. It typically wouldn't be a dish I would choose first hand but for me i really enjoyed it. The duck blood are cut into squares and you can choose to eat it or put it to the side. If you can stomach coagulated blood and like the iron flavor, it would be a dish worth trying. My exchange students absolutely loved it. In my opinion, one block of the duck blood was good enough for me to get my iron vitamins in. The rest everyone else demolished. It's similar to having a hot pot dish and I loved that they had noodles in addition to the dish. I would request for extra noodles. It's very fragrant. I could do the chili oiled sauce with rice. On to the fried pork intestines. This one was crispy and is similar to having spicy pork skin. I requested to have a side of hot pot garlic sesame sauce and red vinegar and soy sauce for dipping. You can also try it with chili oil and red vinegar. It was my favorite between the two. Second visit: I had the opportunity to come back. This time It was so nice that I got to come with my exchange students parents. They are from the same region in Chengdu. They tried the place and said that it was the best and authentic. We met the owner who came from their same town. He spoke the same language as they did and had told us he originally owned Judy's then sold it to the latest owner. My exchange students says it's better than Judy's. I guess it's because there is more authenticity and the options here are a taste of home. For appetizer we had the braised beef and tendon, Wood ear mushroom salad, and lettuce wrap. All were good. The marinaded black ear salad is a popular cold dish. It has a good consistency of vinegar and sesame oil flavor. The braised beef and tendon are thinly sliced. The beef and tendon slices are served cold with a chili marinade which sat on top of two romaine lettuce leaves. For some people who don't like cold meat it can be different at first. I think some may not like the chewy, slightly gelatinous texture of the the beef cuts and it can take a little getting used to if you are not accustomed to tendon. As for me it was good. The best appetizer was the bean sauce flavored meat that I ate with the lettuce. It is thinly sliced, and hot, perfect for lettuce wrap. This is recommend and it was a hit with the kids, and great for those who don't like spice. Their lobsters came in today and so we were not going to pass off on the lobster dish they recommended. I guess it is only offered once in a while, but it was a hit. It came freshly cooked, and hot. It was already prepared so that we can just get the meat easily of the lobster shell. Yes, it was yummy! My favorite was the chili oil fish. It has the same flavors as hot pot sauce but it worked well with the spicy peppercorn flavor, chili's and napa cabbage. I highly recommend this! This place is not your typical Chinese place. This is a must try to broaden your perspective and taste palette in authentic Szechuan style flavors.
