Excellent authentic Mexican food, not your chain style. Service was great. Very local type low key restaurant. We were out of towners and asked someone local for recommendation for Mexican food and she said hands down Rufi’s Cocina. Chef also gave us a taste of some sauces and another dish. Great unusual Mexican food. I recommend it.
Some of the best authentic Mexican food in Waco! I am used to small taqueria's and this spot is on point! Try the Bistec A La Mexicana and the tortillas are fresh and homemade!
Looks like you should just keep driving when you find this place but, if you do it is your loss! This place has fantastic food and great staff. I will drive to Waco from Temple just to eat at this little jewel!!!
Just left from Rufi's have to say this place is so delicious reminds me of my mom's cooking. I just found my new favorite place. Menudo and pozole was delicious my son's had burrito and Mexican enchiladas. We tried a little bit of everything all was amazing. Thank you Erick for coming to our table and letting us try all your amazing sauces/ chile's. This will be our new regular place for our family.
This place is holy ground. I'm a huge fan of their enchiladas, guisado, and carne asada. The breakfast plate is also pitch perfect.
Had lunch here today...this place is fantastic and I highly recommend! Very different than your average Tex Mex place.
coolest place in Waco. walks with true grace. sincerely authentic. this is probably the finest restaurant in Texas, maybe the world.
My husband and I have eaten here a few times the food and service have always been excellent. The cucumber and lettuce aqua fresca is delicious and refreshing it paired perfectly with the Mole Especial con pollo. My husband chose the green chili stewed pork, it was fantastic! The prices are reasonable, the dining area is clean and simply decorated with art by local artists. We highly recommend Rufi's Cocina!
Best breakfast burritos in Waco! The different hot sauces they have available are all unique and delicious! This place is a little out of the way, but the folks are great and the food is even better.
Absolutely amazing authentic regional Mexican food in a low-key neighborhood spot. We had the Mexican enchiladas and the chimpa (chicken covered with a green tomato, jalapeño and roasted pumpkin seed sauce). So delicious and less than $20 for two. Waitress was so sweet! We felt right at home.
First time customer... Food was delicious the service was phenomenal!!! The water was nice and cold!!! Highly recommend this establishment... And will return
Drove to Waco from Burnet today to meet with a friend from my hometown I haven't seen for 56 years. He drove from Dallas and we had agreed to meet half way. The half way point ended up to be Rufi's. We had lunch at Rufi's. Everything was outstanding, the service, and the wonderful food. We sat for hours talking about our lives over the last decades and the staff was gracious. Must return to Rufi's !
Great Mexican Restaurant (not Tex-Mex). Just like eating in a family kitchen in the state of Michoacan in Mexico. Loved the food, loved the people. Mama does most of the cooking. Son and daughter fill-in in the kitchen and handle the server duties. They have eight or more types of hot sauce you can try. Everything is fresh and homemade.
Best Chile relleno I ever had. Roasted and cooked fresh while you wait. Ask for the delicious red sauce.
I came this morning for my 1st time and tried the chimichanga it was sssooo good! Now I'm back for lunch getting my boyfriend one so he can try what I had this morning. While I'm going to try the Mexican burger! Plus they are giving me to go samples of all the sauces they have today to try. The people are so nice and have been talking to me the whole time I've been waiting for my food! I'm so glad I took the time to stop in! I'll definitely be coming here for now on when I'm craving Mexican food!!
Great food and friendly service! Love goat, very tender and delicious! We will definitely be coming more often.
Very good service and hospitality. They opened the door for an elderly lady. You don't see that much anymore. Authentic atmosphere and food. I will be returning to this place in the near future. They have a range of different salsas that change from sweet to hot. Friendly and good
This is a small, hole in the wall, family run restaurant with authentic Mexican food. No Tex Mex which is refreshing! I haven’t tasted Mexican food like this since living in San Diego, and it was very good. We ordered Machaca, chiliquiles, enchiladas, and a sope. All super good, very fresh, and very fulfilling. I wish there were more authentic Mexican restaurants around as it’s a major miss in the central Texas market. Tex Mex is not good. Nothing about it is good. If I’m going to eat Mexican food, it should be authentic like what this restaurant serves.
When I pulled up I thought hmm. But I have always been a fan of hole in the wall family spots. Boy was I not disappointed. The service was friendly and awesome. The food. OH MY GOD. HOME COOKED HEAVEN.. I'm a big salsa guy and thiers was on point and different. I will definitely be back. Thank you Ruffi's.
Truly authentic Mexican food. I had the guisado con puerco and it was delicious. They also have several salsas with varying degrees of spiciness including an aged guava and hibiscus salsa. You can tell they put a lot of love and care into everything they make.
If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, not just Tex/mex, this is the place to go. The food is off the charts good, won’t be surprised to see this place on the Food Network someday.
