Easily the best L&L I've ever been to đź‘Ť Excellent, well made pig & cabbage, super friendly & fast crew, nice & clean dining room.
It’s an island chain on both Hawaii and Oahu. Not bad. Definitely better than fast food and they give you large portions. It’s like 2 meals in one. It’s definitely Asian inspired.
Pretty good place for food selection. Delicious food. Had the braised pork, Kalua pork with cabbage and Spam Musibi. All great dishes.
Everything is served in take out and unfortunately no washrooms.
Honestly thoroughly enjoyed my multiple visits here. A real taste of Hawaii and great service to go along with it. The atmosphere is authentic and comfortable.
We stopped in here multiple times during our stay in Waimea because they had a lot of options and were cheaper than most places to eat.
First, if you have celiac or are gluten sensitive, be very wary here. Almost everything you can order comes with macaroni salad and/or has soy sauce in it, so there are limited options for those of us with this issue.
That being said, the first time I went in, I had an excellent ham & cheese omelette served on top of rice. It was a huge omelette, so was definitely worth the price.
The next time, I tried to order a "healthier plate." If you have a gluten allergy, make sure you specify the "healthier plate" part. I neglected to do this, and ended up with battered shrimp with macaroni salad and rice, so I couldn't eat ANY of it. I would ask every time you order whether or not there is any soy sauce or breading in the dish.
I eventually decided that my favorite dish was Kalua Pig with cabbage (the Kalua refers to the cooking method, not to be confused with Kahlua). You can ask that they leave out the macaroni salad or give you rice instead. At some locations, you can order a "bowl" instead, which is just Kalua Pig on rice.
Overall, a great option for keeping things a little cheaper, even if it is a little limited in gluten free dishes.
We rarely go to LL where we live (Oahu) but we decided to get a mix plate and a Katsu plate after hiking in Waimea. The food tasted better than the L&Ls on our island and the portions were noticeably bigger. The cashier was super nice and friendly. Would come back often if I lived on this island.
The food is always super fresh and it comes out quick 100% recommend
This place is clean and friendly. The service is prompt & they have healthy options for brown rice, tossed salad, or no starch..
Mochico chicken should have more chicken if not at least chewy rice. Oxtail soup has very hard oxtail and not so good soup. They are busy somehow.
Late review! Visited 01/29/2018. We have L&L's in Vegas but wanted to go to one in Hawaii first! Everything was delicious. Boyfriend had the Loco Moco; and I had the Kalua/lau Lau combo. The Kalua pork is with cabbage; and the lau lau is pork in tea leaves. The service was fast, food was great. Everything comes in to go containers which was great since I didn't finish my food lol So that made it convenient. Portions are nice. I also had the musubi combo; which is spam/portuguese sausage and chicken katsu over rice. They do have A LOT of rice fyi. We would definitely go again!
The food was sooo good, and the prices were amazing! The pork belly in particular was excellent.
For a fast food chain, this is pretty decent. The service was very friendly. Big portion and flavorful Hawaiian food. The Lau Lau combo was really yummy with shreded pork and pork belly. Must try!
I like l&l. They always make your food to order and it's always good. Not to mention cheaper than fast foods. #nomnomnomnomnomnomnom
On July 1, 2023, three of us embarked on a journey to visit all 12 L&L locations on Big Island in one day. This was our 6th stop of the day. We arrived close to lunchtime and the place was busy. The seating area is limited and there is nowhere to really sit and wait for your food if all the tables are taken.
Service was bad and the place felt dirty, which was perfect. Truly an authentic L&L experience. The musubi was not that great. I don't think they fried the SPAM and the smell of the nori literally made two of us gag. We forced the musubi down so that we could claim victory over this location and carry on with our journey.
I have a strong feeling that if we had ordered anything but musubi that we would have been very satisfied. Would I go back again? Probably. Just not for the SPAM musubi.
Food was so good! I stopped by for breakfast.. had the fried fish breakfast plate, so yummy!
L&L is da BESTEST!!! Da Locals Favorite Place wea dei Kno wat fo Expect!!! Just like Majority of "Take Out" Restaurants! My Firstest Pick is da Roast Pork Plate!!! Tu me it's Poifect!!! All da addah Choices is DAKINE TU but I usually go fo da Roast Pork Plate! Can't Wait fo L&L fo open up in Waikoloa!!! AROHAZ B&B........
Nice, simple food with lots of choices. Fair prices.
Pretty good food for the price and you can get a large plate for a little over $10 which isn’t bad. I never came out hungry every time I ate at L&L. I love the chicken cutlet plate lunch. It’s my comfort food.
