Got the BBQ platter for 2 with brisket, pork belly, ribs, Mac n cheese and brussel sprouts. Highly recommend! The meats were smoked to perfection and had the right amount of fall apart to the touch. The bark was delicious on the meats, the ribs were toothsome.
Others in our group ordered sandwiches, they were good, but best buy is the platter for 2!!
FIRST-RATE BBQ EXPERIENCE - Thoroughly enjoyed an Easter lunch during our first visit here,... Pulled pork, brisket, rib tips, and lamb were all moist and flavorful; excellent in terms of quality of cuts, preparation and presentation. Sides were delicious also; Green Beans had a nice “kick” and the Mac ‘n Cheese a mild smoky quality which enhanced - but didn’t overwhelm - the cheesy flavor. Keep in mind - the sides are distinctly unique with obvious consideration and experience to refine,... (If you’re looking for ordinary, “safe” versions of classic sides, stick with a chain restaurant.) Available seating is rare, but, based on the continual stream of customers, there will never be sufficient quantity to satisfy demand, so be prepared to “carry out”. The entire staff, from owner Rob to the preparers and including the “floor-walker” who continually checked at tables and interacted with incoming patrons, were all friendly, responsive, and entirely hospitable. (Sitting near the counter, we couldn’t help noticing the friendly manner with which Rob and his staff continually welcomed and responded to all customers.) If you’re ever in the Mount Pleasant area of DC and have an urge for a great bbq meal, I strongly encourage a visit to this comfortable but lively place, just off the “beaten path” of 16th Street, NW. (Thanks, nice going, and best wishes, Rob Sonderman!)
This was my first time there and believe me, it definitely won't be the last. Everything from the food, the service, the employees was on point. I highly recommend Federalist Pig 🐷!! See you soon!!
That was the best BBQ I've ever had! I inadvertently forgot to get sauce with my take out and didn't miss it for one second because everything was so moist and delicious 😋
Got the turkey, pork belly, pork rib tips, and brisket. I was most impressed with the turkey. Probably the best turkey I've had any way. Nom. Can't wait to go back.
I went there last night and had the sampler platter (brisket, pork shoulder, and chicken). The meats were delicious and had a nice smoked flavor. However the sides I chose (green beans and potato salad) were not good. The green beans were over-seasoned and too spicey. The potato salad seemed to have too much mustard. My suggestion - keep the sides simple. Serve green beans with bacon/ham and make potato salad more homestyle.
This is amazing. Seriously. I lived in Memphis for 6 years and was a BBQ foodie before that was a term. I went to every single BBQ place in the mid south.
This place is probably the best BBQ in dc. Hands down.
I had the 3 meat sample.
BBQ pulled pork
Ribs
Brisket
Brussels sprouts
Fries
EVERY ITEM WAS TO DIE FOR. Seriously. Even the fries.
The pulled pork was melt in your mouth delicious, the brisket just fatty enough and the ribs moist and smokey.
Even the sauces were amazing.
Bbq
Mustard
Vinegar
Garlic
Hot
Will be back!
Being from Texas, I have high brisket standards. This brisket does not disappoint. By far the best I've had in the area. Must go
Meat, Brussel sprouts and Mac were on point! It also has a super chill atmosphere and fun-loving but really attentive staff for a truly awesome customer experience. Will be back!
Husband and I were in DC visiting from Tennessee. We came across Federalist Pig while looking for nearby places to eat. We were not disappointed! Definitely recommend to anyone looking to have some delicious barbecue. Service was fast and friendly and the food was cooked to perfection.

The best bbq I have ever had. Pork belly was the best. We will be back for sure!!
Just amazing. Friendly and warm staff, amazing meat, and even better banana pudding. One cup of the pudding was not enough!
What da f**k....i’ve never eaten and ever i will do a brisket and ribs like these one!!!
Thank you for your amazing job!!!!
Best barbecue in DC! Hands down!
The staff is great! Very friendly.
The rotating menu never disappoints.
You must go if you love meat.
Friendly staff, great food! A true neighborhood gem!! 2 genuine foodies from Montrealers
I really love this place. Fancy dining it is not, but really great BBQ isn't fancy, its just good. Don't miss the brussel sprouts! So, SO good!

First time experience and the food was amazing. Had the opportunity to meet the owner Rob. Additionally, it's always a treat supporting local and small businesses. #goodfood #shopsmall #buylocal
One of the best restaurants I've visited. Everything here has a little BBQ or grilled hint to it. The Mac n Cheese is to die for, incredibly creamy, and it has a smoked flavor to it as well. The pork is phenomenal. My entire family loved the meals we got. The atmosphere is immaculate, too. It feels like DC while also being a little more rustic and messy. I loved they outside dining area.
Really solid BBQ with good portions. The sauces are incredible compliments to the meal. Cannot recommend the Sticky Garlic sauce enough. Wish they sold it in bottles!
We were greeted immediately by welcoming/knowledgeable team members which was great!! We ordered the feed the family meal and it was excellent!! The ribs, rib tips, pulled pork, and chicken were all great!! We got the Mac and cheese, baked beans and fries for sides. We enjoyed all of the food!! We will def visit again when we come back in town!!
Outstanding bbq. Food came out very quickly (7 minutes) at around 7pm so very surprising. The meat just fell off the bone. Will definitely be coming back.
I just flew in from Orlando, and my sister invited me to the Federalist Pig restaurant. The atmosphere was fantastic. The service was incredible. I had the beef spareribs and brisket along with the macaroni and cheese and the green beans. The mac & cheese tastes like my grandmother made it! It was so good that I was disappointed when I was finished. I wanted more mac & cheese. The atmosphere was cheerful, and the servers were competently doing their jobs during the Thanksgiving rush hour. I definitely will return to the Federalist Pig. Five stars!
For BBQ was great. Atmosphere great for BBQ place. But real BBQ place brew their tea and not bottled. Nevertheless all was great.
If BBQ greets you before you enter the restaurant you know your belly is going to pleased.
I had the opportunity to try a little bit of everything on the menu. The standout for me was the chopped brisket sandwich and the burnt ends made with tofu.
For every sauce offered there was a protein that complimented it. The sticky garlic sauce was really yummy and was perfect on the smoked wing
Delicious! The dino bone beef rib was perfect (and gigantic), loved the bbq fries, Brussels sprouts, and mac. Will return soon!
Overall solid barbecue but looks can be slightly deceiving. The burnt ends, pulled pork and loaded fries were the best things they had but I was underwhelmed by the Mac and cheese (overcooked), ribs (over cooked) and green beans. I think it’s still a solid barbecue spot if you are in the area but there are better spots.
Great food for reasonable prices and a wide selection of sauces. The service could be a bit better.

Federalist Pig, a "hole in the wall" kind of a place is definitely a great option for a fantastic BBQ. We were impressed specially by the superb brisket we got. The FEED THE FAM combo with 4 meats of your choice and 4 large sides was an excellent choice. Even for 4 adults the plate FEED THE FAM had plenty of food for all. The chicken wings were a little dry but tasted great. There was only outside sitting and the cleanliness of the tables could have been better. Food 5 stars, cleanliness and sitting 4 stars. If you are a BBQ lover this "hole in the wall" is definitely a great choice in DC.
Still one of the best places for bbq and sandwiches in the city. Their sticky garlic sauce is addictive and the guys’ service is awesome. A pleasure to tip.
Staff are super welcoming! Always a great experience. The crispy brussels and cauliflower are the stuff of dreams. And greasy, fatty, flavorful meats…what else could you ask for? Nostalgic for the old restaurant with kitchen-adjacent seating.
Best BBQ in DMV? If someone knows a better spot I'm down to try it. I was skeptical but proven wrong. The sauces are out of this world, enjoy!
