The happy hour is legit. It’s $2 per sushi, which is actually 2 pieces so it’s still $1 don’t let the menus confuse. The fish is honestly some of the more fresh fish I’ve had for sushi. Also with $4 house saki this is a can’t miss chill happy hour in DC Adams Morgan area
Stepping down into Tono, I'm greeted by a friendly, "Hello!" and a calm atmosphere. Nice, simple decor on the walls, an old carpet attests to the longevity of this place. There's a few parties here, but not too many. We're early for dinner and it's a weekday. The two of us take our seats, around 5:45 and begin to order from the menu. Happy hour lasts from 5 to 7:30, more than enough time for us to devour about 60 pieces of sushi at $1 apiece. The pieces are modest, but adorned with a generous helping of fish. The salmon is just the right amount of fatty, the yellowtail fresh and delicate. I tried the Anago and marinated mackerel, and loved both.
The Tamago is, without a doubt the absolute best I've ever had at any sushi restaurant.
Service was quick and attentive. Different generations of a family hard at work. We eventually waddled out a little after 7, bellies full and palates satisfied, joining the throngs of diners enjoying the Woodley Park summer evening.
We are lucky to live so close to such a good sushi spot, and which offers great deals through its happy hour. I would recommend that you come on a weekday or earlier in the hour to avoid a wait, as I'd imagine the place gets full on a prime night.
I was craving sushi… I stumbled to this place and I was pleasantly surprised.
The food is good. I had a miso soup, the dragon roll, and several nigiri pieces (salmon, tuna, squid, and shrimp)
Oh I was so happy!
The food was very good, especially the mushroom miso soup and the vegetarian sushi (avocado, oshinko, mushroom, veggie deluxe). On a Monday night the place was quiet - perfect for a relaxed celebration dinner - and cozy. Our server Cathy was and kind, helpful, and very accommodating of our four year old. Can’t wait to go back.
I love this place. Come here often for happy hour sushi and it’s always satisfying. Good beer prices and the happy hour special always causes me to over order!
I’ve been ordering and going to this place for years. It is my favorite sushi in the city! M was our waitress for this particular occasion and she is the sweetest person ever! My favorite rolls are the Alaskan, Mexican and Bagel. And the gyoza is always delicious too. I got ramen for the first time and it was a nice hearty portion bursting with good flavors. I can’t recommend this place enough!
We were there for happy hour sushi which is an incredible deal. Eel was really tasty and my son said the salmon was extra. Beef nekagami was also good but the salmon teriyaki was a little drab. The seaweed salad was a wonderful surprise: different types of seaweed with a sweetly mild sauce. Definitely recommend this restaurant with friendly service.
Good quality sushi, came out in about 10 minutes after order. Came for happy hour. Good prices for what you get. Has a strong smell when you walk in
Absolutely fantastic happy hour (shhhhh don't tell!) $4-5 boozy drinks and $2 per 2 pieces of nigiri! That fish tastes fresh and sizes were decent. Excellent customer service even tho they were busy. Highly recommend
The food was amazing, we loved the Sushi, soup, Ramen, and Noodles dishes. Would love to visit again. Wholesome food.
I love good sushi restaurants and this one is okay. I sat at one of the dining tables instead of the sushi bar which was full. I can tell that the owners are in tune with the seasons as evident with their December roll. It's a neighborhood establishment and the staff provided a comfortable dining experience. If I lived in Woodley Park, I would visit at least 2 to 3 times a month.
Our sushi was fresh and delicious. Staff was super friendly. Went for the $1 nigiri on happy hour which is a great deal so I’ll definitely be back!
I like the customer service. I always look forward to the Lunch Menu especially the Set number 1 under $12 for such a healthy food. I so like their miso soup. Also a great place to have dinner.
Been coming to Tono for a few years now, usually for the Happy Hour Sushi. The price has gone up from $1 to $2 for certain items, but is still quality. The restaurant, at one point, did have two floors, but since reopening after COVID generally just see the downstairs open. Very friendly staff and large selection of sushi, noodles, appetizers or main entrees. Great little spot about a half block from the Woodley Park Metro.
We had the mushroom soup and four of their special rolls! They were amazing and they were very generous with the mushrooms in the soup!
We'll definitely go back to get those same rolls: double salmon, rainbow, volcano except their eel special roll, that one had too much crunch, we'll ask for less crunch next time!
