Phenomenal 100% gluten-free bakery. The croissants and everything bagels were my favorite. I couldn't believe the croissant was actually gluten-free it tasted so good. It's great to have such high-quality gluten-free options available. The staff are extremely nice and helpful. They will work with you to customize options further if you have other dietary needs. I took some other treats to go. I also recommend the vegan carrot cupcake and nutty energy bar!
When you're restricted in the foods you can eat and eating something like a croissant for you is a rare occurrence - then be able to do is a blessing. Not only that, but a place that makes delicious food and even Melbourne style espresso coffee - Rise Gluten Free Bakery is a place that you have to visit. I'd like to return, and in my time left here in America, I hope to be able too. I'd recommend the Ham and Cheese croissant, my favourite so far. :-)
Oh my goodness their croissants are amaaaaaazing!!!! Everything is amazing! I had to go into DC over an hour and a half away from me, and wanted to see if I could find a place where I could get something, since I always end up munching on a box lunch or some chips while everyone else eats on the town. I googled and Rise came up with such glowing reviews I was like, eh, I'll try them. I am so glad-I haven't had a croissant or eclairs in over ten years. Not to mention that it's such a cute quaint little shop and everyone was so pleasant. This might be my monthly reason to go to DC again! Thank you Rise for such a delicious encounter- I will be back!
I brought in donuts for my 7th grade art class, but one kid was gluten free. I drove down to pick him up gluten free cookies. They all loved them! Next time one stop...Rise Bakery!
Delicious gluten free bakery!! So happy to have found this in DC. Can’t wait to have things shipped home.
This is literally the most fantastic place to get gluten free food, especially when you get the taste of delicious bread that you miss without fear!
This place is amazing 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟 Best lunch we've had since arriving from Australia, not easy with myself and my teenage son both being Coeliac, but had full trust knowing the owner was a fellow Coeliac. We will definitely be back for lunch and donuts again before leaving DC, thank you Rise Bakery!

My husband and I Uber-ed across town to make it here in time before they closed - so worth it! That carrot cake cupcake is to die for! Thanks for catering to people with special diets like me!!!

One of the highlights of my vacation was finally having a good gluten free croissant. I had honestly all about given up and missed them terribly.
Delicious breakfast sandwiches! It made my day to know I didn’t have to worry about the food, that it would be safe for me to eat.
The staff was just as sweet as their eclairs! Before I went to rise I hadn’t had a croissant in over six years. I don’t know what magic they use to get the gf pastry dough texture and taste so on point, but I definitely support it.
Fabulous gluten free bakery---everything they have here is terrific!
Stopped in day 1 visit to DC and on final day to take home a FEW BOXES of goodies! Our favorite were the eclairs and chocolate croissants, you’d never know they were GF buy taste, incredible! Tried ham & cheese croissant, cupcake, and muffins... all great! If you eat GF and you visit DC, don’t miss out on Rise Bakery.
lots of gluten free options. I am not gluten allergic but tried it with a friend. Food was great!
Amazing place to spend my last morning in DC. All the employees and owner were knowledgeable and friendly and the ham & cheese croissant and pain au chocolat were delicious. Perfect texture. This place is a gem!
Found this basketry while walking in DC and really enjoyed it.
I am not gluten intolerant but always love a bakery. We tried several things and everything was pretty tasty.
Loved the vanilla cupcake, wouldn't get the strawberry lemonade cupcake again.
My partner tried a flavored cheesecake and the cream cheese brownie. He didn't have any complaints 🙂
Absolutely amazing. I rarely get to walk into a place, especially a bakery, where I don't have to ask them to take special measures to keep me from getting horribly sick. No asking to read ingredients list, no special menu, no back-of-the-mind worry that this may be the place that glutens me and causes me to spend the next day barely able to get out of bed.
They have cake, bread, donuts, brownies, tiramisu, hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, and more. I bought way more than I can eat and I'm currently fighting a sugar coma while in airport security and it was worth all of it. I'm pretty sure this place supplies GF bread for local (high end) restaurants as well.
I'm so glad this place exists, and can't wait to come back the next time I'm in town.
Thank you, folks, and I hope your business continues to boom.
Stunning. Delicious. Wish I could come here every single day. The biscuits are the perfect textures. The croissant are also very good. The only request is to make the space have a few chairs and tables! The “office” in the front is awkward and such a waste of space. Totally would have stayed for more but there wasn’t a good place to relax and enjoy.
Rise expanded their gluten free options, it’s great to see breakfast sandwiches and frozen bread on the menu.
They were out of smoked salmon early Sunday afternoon so out breakfast options were somewhat limited. Suggestion: add (maybe optional) egg and even better, also smoked salmon to the avocado toast!
The first time I went to Rise was back in 2019, when I was interning in DC. For someone with celiac disease, 100% gluten free restaurants and bakeries are a gift from the heavens. The first sandwich I ever got was good enough for me to become a long-time customer, but their cinnamon roll sealed the deal. I went back many times during my internship. I moved back to the DC area recently and I’ve already been back once and I know that I’ll have to restrain myself. Seriously, gluten-free or not, you will love this little hidden gem.
Absolutely, great friendly staff. They greet us with a smile on every visit!
We love their selections. There are other GF bakeries closer to our home, but Rise Bakery is always worth the trip. We're from the Metropolitan area originally, and Posh Pop (NYC) is our normal go-to bakery when we are back home with family. So, finding Rise Bakery was/is a pleasant surprise!
They have GF, SF, NF, and Vegan options all in one place!!!
You should also try their breakfast and lunch options as well.
Enjoy and leave a message in their box.
We happened upon this fantastic gluten-free bakery near the National Zoo, due to a mention on one of the maps. We just had to check it out, even though it was a few blocks from out destination. We were not disappointed that we did!
The AGM was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the gluten-free goodies we got were fantastic!
It's always a nice surprise to run across a gluten-free shop and enjoy what they have to offer to boot. Great find and if you are in DC, you must check it out!
Great gluten free bakeshop in the area. Pastries are so good, better than my hometown gf bake shop (NJ). I took one star due to their packaging. The cupcakes icing shifted towards the other cupcakes after driving 20 minutes. I wish they come up with better containers. Also price is a bit much for the size.
I should have taken a picture of my sandwich before I devoured it. The Monica is what I had. It was divine. I can’t wait to try the cinnamon rolls and cupcakes I also picked up. The counter staff person was very friendly. If you need GF goodies, go here. You won’t be sorry.
Goodness gracious. How is it that I've never left a review? Let's get to it!
When the feeling takes me and I need a good baked good,I wake up before 7am (bc it's an hour away from me)and head into DC to the only place that will give me what I've been craving. I usually grab a few bagels, a chocolate croissant and - if they have it - a scone. It's always worth it to me. I have a few yummy things to choose from when I head to work each morning and I feel like a human. Who doesn't love a good bagel or a pastry?! I have - ALWAYS. Especially growing up in New York City. The fact that I could no longer eat gluten had me depressed until I found this place. The bagel taste CONSISTENCY is the best I've found so far. Thank you all for existing! See you soon!
