Wow what a pleasant surprise! Even though this place felt more like a lounge (and maybe better known as a lounge?), their food and service were top notch!
Our night started a little rocky: my husband wore flip flops so we were informed we need to sit outside (watch out for those dress codes!!). Well we all know how DC summers can be—hot, humid, and BUGS all over. I wasn’t anticipating sitting outside so I was not prepared at all and started getting bitten. I then asked our waitress if they had bug spray. They did so I used it. The table next to us was having the same issue so they spoke with the waitress about sitting inside (esp since there was no one else dining inside at the time) so they moved inside. By now my husband was sweating (in addition to me getting bitten) so we also asked to sit inside and they agreed without hesitation. Very accommodating which I really appreciated!
Now onto the dinner experience. We tried the chambongs which was fun! All the food we had were high quality and delicious too. Our waitress was also extremely attentive and friendly which totally made this experience A+.
The only recommendation I would give would be that for summer time, if people need to be seated outside, then maybe consider getting fans to keep cool and bug repellent so bugs stay away. But overall, fantastic dining experience and would definitely come back.
Last Wednesday evening, on 6/28/23, I had an awesome experience at Donahue. I'm a notoriously finicky eater, so for me to laud a place, it's got to be genuinely outstanding.
Their tapas are second-to-none and bring a Latin flair to each dish. I didn’t find a single item that I didn’t wholeheartedly enjoy. I especially recommend the sea bass ceviche, the tuna tarter, and the cocktails (where were creative and delicious).
As a former waiter in fine dining, I can tell you that the service staff's attention to detail was impeccable, creating an atmosphere of comfort and sophistication. They truly understand the art of subtle hospitality.
I visited Donahue last weekend when I was in DC with my girlfriends. We had a phenomenal experience. The food was so delicious. I think we tried almost everything on the menu and were very satisfied with everything we got. Some of my favorites were the Ceviche, Surf and Turf, Burrata, and the Short Ribs - it’s so hard to pick just a few!
The food made the experience worth it on its own, but we also had an amazing server, Chen. She was so attentive and gave great insights to the menu when we were making our selections. We loved her.
I definitely look forward to visiting Donahue again when I am back in DC.
Let me tell you about Donahue…fantastic service - thank you Chen - super fun atmosphere perfect for a girls night out - and the FOOD!!! I think our group tried just about every plate and from the short ribs (best I’ve had) to the surf and turf to the shrimp cocktail and everything in between was phenomenal. We also tried the Cham-bongs and sampled the cocktail menu which was also top notch. If you are in the DC area give Donahue a try. I know I will be back for future visits.

Started off a nice evening here, great vibe with surprisingly good food and engaging service by the friendly staff.
The Pan Seared Scallop (Saffron & Mandarin Cream) was incredible. Mouth-watering flavor, the Mandarin cream was indulgent, and the succulent scallops paired perfectly.
The Ricotta Ravioli (Mushroom. Spinach) was nearly as good, and the rich sauce begged to be sopped up with some bread (which we requested and they provided).
Beef Dumplings (Soy & Sesame Glaze) were excellent, the dumplings delicate and filled with tender, juicy savory beef.
Papas Bravas (Chipotle Aioli. Aromatics) were good, a creative preparation, but just not at the same level as the other dishes.
Cocktails were excellent as well.
Looking forward to returning to try more things of the menu.
Super exclusive and chic lounge that offers fine dining and live music on Wednesday's. From the moment you walk in until the moment you leave you receive exceptional service and attention. Lastly, THE FOOD !! THE FOOD !!! - absolutely amazing. Every bite was filled with flavor and love.
Definitely will be returning
&Thank you Edwin for your phenomenal service
The Donahue is fast becoming one of our favorite places to dine. The menu is well-curated, the staff is friendly and hospitable, and the ambience is intriguing. We’ve been here a couple of times and the experience on both occasions was stellar. I highly recommend this place for those who enjoy contemporary fine dining and watching how the place transforms from a sophisticated yet modern ambience to a lively late-night experience.
I like everything about this place, from design to food to drinks! Definitely one of my favorite places after my first time going! This will be on top of my list as far as go to bars! The lounge area is amazing as well! It’s so comfy and inviting and mood is set as soon as hit the door with the greeter there waiting for you!
Everything about my Donahue experience was done with class and precision, from entry to entree. I've been to the Donahue a few times and I have never been disappointed. The attention to detail and the variation of tastes that I've not found anywhere else impresses me every time. Not only does the restaurant provide an ambiance of elegance, with its decor, menu, and floral accents it's as welcoming and charming as it is pristine. With only a few visits the staff is always friendly, and accommodating. Attentive and efficient. The food was surprisingly flavourful, as I typically have to ask for condiments like pepper, or hot sauce at other restaurants, the last meal I enjoyed at The Donahue was seasoned to perfection. I recommend The Donahue for anyone looking for an upscale dining experience on a date night, or business meeting. I've dined there alone, and enjoyed the champbongs which was something I didn't know I needed in my life, but now can't live without. You can also join their mailing list for invites to tastings, and special events. Very few places in DC to I return to but The Donahue is one of my favourites. Plus, the mirror in the bathroom in excellent for selfies.
I wish I could give a 10 star! Our experience was top notch. Our server was extremely sweet. After a terrible experience at a different restaurant prior they took care of us and turned our whole night around! Thank you so so much 🩷 we will definitely be back!!!
This rather non-descript hidden gem is more of what DC needs. A bit swanky but not over the top cocktail bar with a few select bites. The short ribs are to DIE for also the caviar martini special is a great buy. Also try the shrimp cocktail. Service and staff were in point. I recommend making reservations. This is the place to see and be seen!!
Very welcoming staff and genuinely interested in creating a comfortable environment. I have to say that I am very impressed. A lot of D.C. culture changed over the years and most certainly after Covid. Many of the cult places that embodies D.C. are no longer the same after decades of keeping it’s standards or shut down. After doing my research this was the direction my husband and I were going for his birthday celebration. Granted the drinks were way better than the food but the ambience and service was excellent. The chef definitely did a number on the Duck, the salads were soft tossed which were low of flavor (a touch of sea salt would have done the trick) and the seafood tower was underwhelming. Still I would rate this place a 4/5 only because food could have been better. I have quality friends to accompany me on my next visit!
Went to Donahue last minute and the reception was great! The doorman was amazing and kind. He was very friendly and my friend and I were seated in a very short period! Will surely be back!
Very nice, hidden gem in Georgetown. They have a restaurant downstairs, bar on the main floor and lounge in the back. Be sure to make reservations and ready to spend $16 on every delicious cocktail. The cocktails were superb and the staff beyond nice. We ordered the side of Brussel sprouts (lacked Flavor), octopus pasta and short rib!
Wonderful all around. The receptionist, Mr. Collins is a gentleman personified. Luca a great host, and Michael the best bartender. Highly recommended as a great place to get together.
Great food, specially the braised short rib!! Drinks are cute and tasty! I tried the Donahue and loved it. I don't like the atmosphere in their dining room but love the lounge area, where you can have dinner too! The staff are very kind and did wonderful taking care of our large group! Donahue is my new favorite place in Georgetown.
Went to Donahue late Saturday for a few cocktails.
Fantastic drinks, great atmosphere & service. It wasn’t overly packed either.
