This is THE dive jazz club in DC. While I was there they were boasting they are the oldest jazz place in the city. The live music was excellent but the $15 cover was a bit much. Drinks are limited but the prices are reasonable. Don't expect quick service. The bar is a kick.
Food was great! Music was great! Loved everything about Twins Jazz! Thank you:)
FYI:
Ticket was $15 per person.
You need to order more than $10 minimum.
Great Jazz Club! Great menu. Very reasonably priced. Mixed and packed crowd. Wonderful staff. I look forward to going again.
I took a friend for his Birthday and we had a blast. The entertainment, staff and food were awesome. Cozy and intimate setting.
Cool music, fun venue. Drinks are fine, dessert was not great. We got the chocolate cake and it tasted odd. Not just stale, but something else. Stick to drinks and you should be fine. The performers we've seen here have been consistently good.
I saw two bands here in one week and they were both excellent. One night the place was packed, and the other night the place was almost empty. The food was good but the service was a little lax. I didn't mind because the staff was very friendly when I went up to the bar and asked for another drink. I visit jazz clubs in many cities and Twins is among my favorites. Truly authentic feel and it is really all about the music.
Both times I've been here the music has been really wonderful. It is a hole in the wall, but it gives it listening club feel. Come a little bit early to snag your perfect seat, it often fills up. Sit in the back if you want to talk - but you can feel the Jazz as it encompasses your soul, so good luck! The food is not bad and the mixed drinks were delicious and strong!
This is such a great club... the best Ethiopian food around and great local live jazz. The food is reasonably priced, the staff is extremely friendly ....and the music is always really good. Sure-- it costs $10 to get in, but nearly all of that goes tp the musicians. All in all a great value, plus the feel good points for supporting local artists!!!
Fantastic place. I came for a Jazz concert last week, and I loved the pleasant atmosphere. Diner was not exactly excellent, but the place is so cool, that you don't mind in the end. The concert by Kenny Rittenhouse was really great. Very good address!
After being disappointed in our original destination, my wife and I wandered up the street until we came across the open door to Twins Jazz with the sound of lively music floating down the stairs.
At the top of the stairs we are greeted by a familiar sight if you've ever been to a New York jazz club. A long, narrow room lined with tables and a scattering of booths, a stage at one end of the room and a bar at the other.
Staff were attentive if busy, but the music and audience were both pleasant. My wife and I were informed by a kind, happy gentleman that we had stumbled into the best jazz club in the city, which you couldn't disprove by me. The drinks were good, pricing is what you should expect to pay at a club in a metro area, and overall I'd come back.
Nice place for jazz lovers. The musicians were great and the food was delicious (I had the jerk chicken wings). I would say try to RSVP before going or get there early because the space is very small. However, this creates a very intimate setting which is great if you're on a date
Love them for hosting so much jazz! Vegetarian platter was very good too, if a bit pricey for what it was. The nachos are a college food favorite (also a bit pricey but worth it for supporting the groups).
A real throw back in the best way possible, blinking fairy lights and the time capsule vibe of times gone by for an art form that is struggling to get by, but loved by those who really love it.
The same people who pay 8 bucks for some IPA in a mason jar complain about the $15 dollar cover, as if the band doesn’t need to get paid. But they are charging $5 bucks for beer at a live music joint, and not at happy hour, in a hip spot. What do people really want? What do they think they deserve?
If you love jazz, if you love a place with a hint of days gone buy run by interesting folk without the faux customer service smile, this is your place. If you want something else, DC has lots of that for you.
But for those giving this joint one star: do some soul searching. Entitlement — it’s a thing.
With the loss of Bohemian Caverns, Twins is the last real Jazz club on U St. The shows are very intimate, and I have enjoyed the few I have been too here. The space is a bit of a tight squeeze, but that does not mean it is bad by any means. I am hoping it keeps going.
I took my friend here for his birthday and the live band was awesome, ambience was amazing, food delicious and the staff friendly. I think I've found a new hangout spot that's peaceful!!!! Go visit asap and try the salmon salad !!!
