Service was okay but not perfect. The place was soooo spacious. Beautiful interior with a sense of Europe. The experience was very special. If you like to try something different, you should try it.
Very "home cooked" feel to the food. Very convieniently located next to the Laugh Factory!
Best corned beef Reuben in the world. Period.
Greenblatt's Is SO my Regal Beagle.. A week and a half ago the love of my life, my 3-legged (as if that's not enough) Chihuahua underwent spinal surgery that has rendered him virtually immobile for the next three weeks while he recovers.
Well, as you may imagine, this has also left me virtually immobile. I put him in his crate while I shower or find it absolutely necessary to run an errand, but he screams bloody murder in there. I'm not so sure that the stress and screaming is all that great for the recovery process or my neighbors' neighborliness, so he pretty much sits right next to me on the couch or in the bed.
This makes him happy. This makes me unable to shop for groceries or prepare food, and most certainly inhibits dining out. This means delivery. This means Greenblatt's.
As I was complaining about this whole delivery thing making me feel like a stereotypical bachelor-dude-type and also lamenting the lack of recipes or restaurants to write about, my friend suggested I write about Greenblatt's.
Why in God's teeth I have never discussed Greenblatt's on here is beyond me. It is pretty much my favorite place. If I moved anywhere else in LA I would continue to patronize Greenblatt's, and I have honestly thought that if I ever moved away from LA that it would be a damned shame to no longer have Greenblatt's in my life (this being almost a driving force to remain, mind you). I'm only sad that it took me a few years of living here to discover the place. What did I do BEFORE? Okay, enough.
Established in 1926 (which might as well pre-date the Byzantine Empire by LA standards) Greenblatt's is a New York style, kosher deli and fine wine shop that happens to be (too?) close to my house. They are open 365 days a year, from 9am until 2am. They offer dine in, take out and delivery. I've spent a Christmas night there in my pine cone jammies, drinking champagne. They are my friends.
From mile-high Ruebens, a bagel and lox platter that rivals Canter's, their cure-all matzoball soup, an awe-inspiring clam chowder, a Cobb salad you could do laps in, to full chicken, turkey, rib and meatloaf dinners with any number of sides (stuffing, potatoes, green beans or broccoli, to name a few), they've got it covered.
The wine shop (which also sells liquor) is really and truly something special. It is vast, the prices are a solid couple of bucks cheaper than ANYWHERE else, I've found. And the staff knows what they're talking about. In fact, most are certifiable oenophiles and a few are even studying to be sommeliers.
It doesn't hurt that as a result of the frequency of my visits (and my undeniable charm?), I am on a first name basis with the entire staff and they are very familiar with my likes and dislikes. Or it could be that last Summer I bought them out of Lillet. Hell, my friends stop in to buy wine on their way to my house and ask the staff what I would like. And they KNOW. I do love me a Regal Beagle.
So during my dog's and my own house arrest, the good people of Greenblatt's may not be seeing my face, but they hear my voice - and I their's (they are in my speed dial). "Ralph," I say, "It's hot. I can't imagine drinking any reds. Would you mind selecting me a few sauvignon blancs and rosés? I also need a bottle of Lillet, a Cobb salad, and the maple mustard chicken dinner with stuffing and broccoli. That should last me a few days…". 30 minutes later my bounty arrives and, of course, Ralph's selections are spot on.
Now Beso and I can relax and watch the entirety of Season 1 of True Blood on the couch together. It may even get us into Season 2 of Gossip Girl. Hey, a girl can dream…
Greenblatt's also has an impressive cheese and charcuterie selection AND a magical lemon cake that I could write a whole other blog about

Cornbeef and fine wine. The best cornbeef in LA if they get your order right. for those of you who have $$ for wine and enjoy wine their selection is 2nd to none. screaming eagle and a cornbeef sandwich. yummmmmmm
Delicious Pastrami!. The "hot and juicy" pastrami sandwich was excellent! It was warm and flavorful, with just the right amount of grease. The matzo ball soup was a little disappointing, but it wasn't bad. The chocolate mousse cake was pretty good, and our waitress was very friendly and fun.
Greenblatt's also has a wine shop attached to it. Very reasonable prices, and only a $5 corkage fee for you to enjoy your wine with your meal.
I would definitely go back for the pastrami!
One of Los Angeles' classic delicatessens. Great sandwiches, tasty pickles, yummy cookies, and turkey legs!!! Their submarine sandwich is the best in the city! So good!

Typical deli. Very good food. Delicious pastrami. kind staff. Beautiful place. Free Parking.
Great deli, loved the food and good service (4 stars just because I've had better, but this is still a really REALLY great option).
Not big portions but Tasty pastrami. Chicken soup with vegetables contains more celery and chicken and one carrot :-))) where is my vegetables ? And some overpriced. But classic look taste and atmosphere.
Came here for my birthday breakfast due to craving a lox bagel. Price was pretty high and didn't come with any side like Factor's Deli but still delicious.
I lived in Hollywood for 20 years and this was probably my favorite restaurant in the area. Not only is the food amazing, but they had two things that were super rare for any restaurant in Hollywood: ample parking, and rarely any kind of wait for a table. Maybe it's because many people don't know about it or don't consider it a place to dine in? Their takeout is also amazing, which is great now during the pandemic, as that's all they're offering. This place is magnificent. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates a good Jewish deli, although they also have great non-deli food (like Thanksgiving dinner every day of the year, and Italian dishes, etc). Even though I don't live in Hollywood any more, I always make a point of going back whenever I can, even though it's over an hour round trip for me to go nowadays. Give this place a shot, you won't regret it.
Been coming here for over 10 years every time I visit the LA area. Consistently great sandwiches with an old school deli experience. Highly recommend the Pastrami Reuben or Rare Roast Beef with English cheddar.
Potato salad and cheesecake are also fantastic. A little on the pricier side but always worth it!
Good home made food! The prices are reasonable! Must try
Sandwich are good. Also street parking available. No dine in due to covid. Friendly team member.
The best deli hands down. Our server was so sweet. A must if in town.
My favorite deli in Los Angeles. Great photos on the wall of the history of Los Angeles. Food is not salty and the portions are generous.
Best wine shop in LA! They have a great selection at really good prices, the staff is always extremely knowledgeable and willing to make suggestions when needed. The food is also really good, the sandwiches are a little on the expensive side, but they are pretty big. My favorite food here is the mac and cheese, though, they bake it in the oven and warm it up when you get it, so it comes perfectly melty and creamy, but also with some parts of gratin cheese, like cooked to the point it becomes a crunchy piece of deliciousness.
The pastrami, as expected, was awesome! But I didn't have the pastrami. I had the corned beef, and it was even better. How do I know about the pastrami? The server brought out a sample of both so I could pick what I liked. I drink a lot of coffee and i thought the coffee was good too.
Cozy atmosphere. Something about this place makes you feel like it's a family joint, which I love, and which it probably is!
When it comes to the best of the best of delis and corn been in Los Angeles the first word out of everyone's mouth might be Canters. Well, let me tell you, Greenblatt's is not be be trifled with. I put them on par and just as good. My date and I shared their lox and bagel platter and it was fantastic. I bought some extra corn beef and rye to take home and a couple of bottles of wine for the family. There was plenty of parking in the back; they had a couple of outdoor tables, one of which we used, right on Sunset; and it was worth the drive. I do wish they had a full bakery.
This is the deli in LA. No one else compares. The pastrami is the best in the city. Matzo ball soup is legit. Great pecan pie. And they have Dr Brown’s Black Cherry soda. Plus Ron Jeremy hangs out here in case you needed to know if Greenblatt’s has street cred.
Can't believe that we've lived in LA for over 20 years and have never been to Greenblatt's. This is by far the best deli we've ever been to. Everything we had was amazing. We ordered matzo ball soup , grilled pastrami (combo 3), and macaroni salad. Knowing it was our first time here our waiter Fernando brought us potato salad and brisket to sample, they were amazing as well, but what blew us away was his outstanding service. They've earned new customers for life!
The house roasted turkey with green beans & almonds and mashed potatoes were absolute perfection. The turkey was moist and well-seasoned. My fiancé loved his sandwich, his eyes rolled to the back of his head with almost every bite. He was sad he couldn't finish it because it filled him. Took it in a to-go container and I believe he's looking forward to finishing it. The staff were so helpful and kind. Was not my first time there, was his. He said we are returning.
Fantastic sandwiches! I tried the 'best ever rare roast beef sandwich' with the coleslaw, and it was delicious! Very friendly staff, too. It seems like a very hip and cool place.
Make sure you get there before 1:15 a.m., however, if you want to be sat. They strictly enforce their no new customers after 1:15 rule even though they are open til 2am. It makes sense - walking into a nice restaurant 10 minutes before they close is rude. Respecting the establishment & it's employees generally garners respect back to you, and provides a better dining experience.
