I’m blown away by the food at Rouge. We got a recommendation to go here, not sure what to except being from NYC (best food in the world) but we loved everything we ate. The steamed chicken buns may have been the best dish I have ever had in my entire life! The bass was cooked to perfection. Drinks were delicious… the staff was so accommodating and attentive. We ate outside and felt perfectly safe. We met the owner, Maggie, who was gracious and lovely. What an incredible meal!! We can’t wait to come back. I’d drive from NY just for the day to have this food again
What a delightful meal. This was our anniversary meal and it did not disappoint. We ordered for pickup(Crazy Covid Times). Duck Confit, Watermelon feta salad, Scallop Toast, Bistro Steak, Halibut. Everything was delicious. I have already told many people about this gem. It's easy to get to off of 90 and the meal was so good. We'll likely be back, hopefully to enjoy in person.
Nice restaurant. Our two drinks from the bar's special menu were unique, flavorful and potent. The complimentary bread was good. Calamari was crunchy. The duck was a little too rare, acknowledging it should be rare, but still a treat. Interior decor has paintings of classic female movie stars. A separate back room just for viewing, has a large snow globe collection from all over the world. There is a separate bar section from the dining room.
Excellent little find on our way back from Ithaca NY to Portsmouth NH. We were in a rush to get home so we just ordered sandwiches. These looked and tasted like full coarse meals. My wife had the crispy trout flat bread. She loved it. My cognac sauce steak sandwich was perfect. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.
I am impressed. The food was inventive and the atmosphere was cordial. My co-diner told me that they have a new chef and that the space was redecorated. It all looked good to me and, being from Austin, I am used to good food. I would recommend 2 profiteroles, instead of one big one. Other then that... bravo!
I’ve been dining at Rouge Restaurant for many years. Their food is consistently delicious and beautifully presented.
I am gluten free and have never gotten sick eating at Rouge... they even offer GF dessert!
During my 40 years of spending time in the Berkshires, Rouge has consistently been the best place for dinner.
Visited Rouge for the first time and had a great time. They were not too busy and the service was great. All members of our party of 4 enjoyed all dishes selected. We tried multiple tapas and main courses - all were delicious. Our server was very cheerful and helped with recommendations and was attentive to our needs. We live nearby and will definitely be back to try some more dishes.
From the moment we walked in, through every sip, and every bite... This was the best meal out we've ever had!!! My wife is French, and every thing we tasted brought a "oh my god, this is like my grand mere made this!" Maggie is the consummate front of house, and Wlliam is an imaginative, delightful, competent and consistent creator of wonderful cuisine!!! The staff was delightful and conscientious. Decor was spot on.
If I could give more that five stars, I would! It's very rare that you find a restaurant where everything is this eat-as-slow-as-possible delicious.
I often end up out for dinner in the SF Bay Area and have enjoyed many meals of fresh, excellently sourced beautiful food. I've been to Rouge a handful of times before and have always enjoyed it, but this time I was review-worthy impressed. The staff is always so friendly, inviting and knowledgeable, and the bartender especially is a master of his craft. This time, it's clear that a new chef and an inventive fall menu have transformed this local favorite into a certified Berkshire gem.
My sister and I stopped in about 7:30 on a Friday night and sat at the bar. We started with the cream of broccoli soup with brown butter sauce and almond curry, roasted beets salad with a cocoa powder raspberry vinaigrette and fried Brussel sprouts with mushroom purée and cured pork. Everything was fresh, vibrant, and absolutely delicious.
We were taken aback by the beautiful complexity of flavors and textures in every dish we tasted and I can honestly say the soup was one of the best I've had in my life.
We went on to share the pan sautéed trout with shiitake mushrooms and poached sunchokes topped with crispy sunchokes and bonito flakes. The trout was cooked perfectly, with delicate crisped skin and melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. The mushrooms and sunchokes held such unique flavor, and the exquisitely delicate broth truly elevated the dish beyond expectations.
We finished off the meal with a chocolate pot de creme and baked apple pavlova - a crispy meringue with a chewy center, baked apples, maple creme, boiled cider and shaved toasted hazelnuts. I don't usually go for meringue but loved the idea of the flavor palette and decided to give it a try. Everything was balanced beautifully and the surprise of lime zest in the meringue gave it a wonderful refreshing quality. Yum!
Overall, portions were generous and beautifully plated with noticeable passion and attention to detail. The menu changes combined with the familiar friends-are-family atmosphere, you're sure to be in for a treat. Enjoy!
When we are in the Berkshires at our second home, we tend to dine out 5 nights per week. We have been to all of the better restaurants numerous times, including Alta, Cafe Lucia, Bistro Zinc, Brava, etc. Lenox is "restaurant central ". I have been asked a number of times what I thought was the best. Interestingly, the best by far isn't even in Lenox. It's in W. Stockbridge, and its name is Rouge. Maggie, the owner, and Oliver the chef do an incredible job, in both food and service. If you know really good food when you taste it, you definitely will want to go to this restaurant.
Absolutey amazing meal. Everything from the white beans and the radishes and butter appetizers, to the steak and the crispy duck entrees, to the desert and coffee, was incredible. Charming, cozy, and romantic atmosphere, and great service too.
Hands down, the best cocktails in West Stockbridge, and the best French food. If you enjoy French cuisine, and you're in Berkshire County, please go out of your way to visit Rouge. You will not be disappointed.
The food was outstanding, the chef is a master. The service was horrendous, sat for 20 minutes without a drink, was never asked how the food was, or had a server come over to check our beverage situation.
The 5 star rating is for the food purely, keep up the good work Kitchen!
The barrel-aged Vieux Carre cocktail, the duck, the sorbet. The atmosphere is kind of pubby - not stuffy or pretentious yet the food is superb and the service us attentive. And, no music or sports TVs -- easy to carry on a conversation. We enjoyed the whole experience.
The food consistency is like no other restaurant. Jeremy handles the bar like a proud owner while Maggie finds time every night to make every guest feel like family. Sit at the bar and try any and all tapas. We are oyster snobs and there is no better place to get them!
We just arrived in the Berkshires, our summer home. What’s first on our agenda? It’s dinner at one of the finest restaurant, in the Berkshires. The Resturant is, Rouge Restaurant and Bistro. It’s a quaint restaurant in the Village of North Stockbridge, Mass. This is our favorite restaurant,
The menu is extensive. What we enjoy the most, is the BBQ baby back ribs, the duck and osso bucco. If we’re not too hungry, we have the the tapas trio for two.
The restaurant is run by, Chef William and his lovely wife, Maggie. She usually greets your at the door with a great big smile. Let's not overlook, Jeremy, an outstanding bartender. If you been their more then once, he’ll remember your drink. Enjoy an outstanding experience and don’t forget the deserts.
