Top Notch Food Made From Scratch!. ALL of the food was amazing. Healthy made from scratch tasty food for fair prices. Great service. Much better then the frozen chemical filled food of the overpoplular chain restaurants ruining this country. Czech-American DESERVES our business because they Earned it! Looking forward to going back next time we are passing through the area!
Wonderful little place!!! Get a fishbowl mug of beer and the combination plate off of the Czech menu, and you'll swear you died and went to heaven! It's a 60 mile drive for us to go there, but we at least try to go there once a month.
Passing through to San Antonio and decided to find something different to eat along the way. Less than a mile off i30 we found this place. It reminds me of the cafes in the small town I grew up in! Full of locals, decent prices and home cooked grub. I would recommend.
Mmm. I love Eastern Europeon food, a lot. This is a great little out of the way joint as you drive from DFW to Austin. The stuffed cabbage rolls were a little tough, but tasty. The kraut and sausages were fantastic. Chix and dumplings were scratch and good. Plus the food and beer here is cheap. Good eats.
While we haven't tried the whole menu...yet, everything we've tried has been great food! Not pictured but recently tasted was the cabbage rolls and Reuben sandwich! Both were really good if you like that sort of thing. We've also eaten the Big Al's burger, sausage, beef tips, open-faced roast sandwich...not to shabby at all. Our favorite here is the Bohemian! Simple... fresh hoagie perfectly toasted with combination of spicy mustard and their sweet acidic sauerkraut with melted pepper jack and sausage. Delightful!
I'm giving this place four stars because even though they advertise themselves as being a Czechoslovakian restaurant they don't have a lot of ethnic items. Most of their stuff is American and I can get that anywhere. Also, the sausage casing was very chewy and didn't break down very well. Other than that the food was great, the second was fast, the waitress was really nice and it was a good experience.
My humble suggestion is to go back to your roots and offer a lot more Czechoslovakian items and less American stuff.
Old school diner with a great feel. Extensive menu, comparatively quick service for home-cooked meals. Good food, good service!
My sister and I were headed south on I-35 from Dallas to central Texas. We were getting pretty hungry, so at the last minute we decided to stop in West, Texas and found this hometown restaurant. Fantastic service, absolutely delicious food at great prices! If you happen to be driving down I-35 near West, it’s a “must stop and try” kinda place!
I saw this restaurant on a TV show. Since it was hubby's 70th birthday I decided to surprise him with a trip for lunch. The food is absolutely fantastic. I can't wait to return. Everything was delicious. We had sausage and kraft. Ken had a tasty Czech draft beer. It was so cold and so good. The coconut pie was to the moon. Our server, Heather, was great. I would suggest you ask for her when you go for a meal.
What a surprise this place was! We were heading home from a trip and stumbled upon Czech-American. Food was just what we expected and the service was 10 stars. This is not a Gordon Ramsey restaurant, but a home style restaurant that you know is well loved by everyone in the community.
Stopped for lunch on our way to Ft Worth on a Wednesday in March. A small "mom & pop" cafe reminiscent of other small town Texas cafes. Everything is made from scratch each morning. They use their grandmother's original recipes.
They serve lunch specials during the week. They have an extensive dessert menu. We didn't check their menu instead we went with the specials. The dining room was full of dinners enjoying their lunch. My husband and I had roast beef, sweet potatoes and green beans. For dessert, I chose buttermilk pie. Wow, tasted like my grandmother's.
If you demand glitz and glamour, this is not your place. However, if you enjoy a warm and friendly place that serves good food at a very reasonable price you will enjoy Czech-American Restaurant.
Delicious food, friendly waitresses, a cool old building with lots of character and good prices make this our favorite Czech restaurant by a LONG SHOT! I had the combo plate with aCabbage roll and Sausage while my wife had the two Cabbage rolls. Both came with a trip to the salad bar, Czech fried potatoes, Sweet Kraut and homemade bread. We're looking forward to the next visit already.
