This place is amazing. I haven't had fresh seafood since we moved to Ohio. I will be back.
Best fish sandwich ever!! Highly recommend this place also call ahead
The best fish sandwich & soft shell crab‼️😊 Go there whenever we ars in Wheeling ‼️
This place is awesome. I love all the food and fast service.
Ordered a clam boat and they must have lost the ticket because after 20 minutes, I still didn't get it yet. When I brought it to their attention, they not only refunded my money, but they gave me an extra boat. That was very nice of them.
Fish Sandwich. Canadian white is great
Coleman's Fish Is Decent. O here it is...... The review that you need! Coleman's is a Wheeling tradition that has been around for 100 years. They serve good food at decent prices. All of the locals swear by it. If you are not local, you may take issue because it's not extravagant at all... The fish is served on white bread slices which for some people may be a little weird, but that adds to the traditional feel of the place. The clam chowda is very good, the Jo-Jo's are tasty (potato wedges are called this locally) and their lobster bisque is good to, if you want something a little saltier in the soup dept. The seating is outside the main doors in the 'lobby area'. There are two lines, one for regular orders (on the right ) and special orders on the left and its a little clumsy if you are a first timer. If you are looking for a place to check of your list in Wheeling, then you have to go just to try it. You can also buy seafood to cook or take out for your travels. Its solid... Nothing fancy... I gave it 3 out of five because its no frills, its good food and its got tradition and personality.
Very nice.. Been there several times to get take-out seafood orders, plus eat-in once or twice. Now I have to warn you, it is kind of like the Soup Nazi style ordering sequence, and you can get messed up and quite confused at how things are actually done. For pickup eat-in orders, there are two lines. One is the 'regular sandwich line' which is your normal run of the mill fish sandwich on white bread and whatever else you want on the regular menu. The other is the 'special line' which is unique special sandwiches ordered from the menu. If you are not in the correct line, confusion may ensue. I normally get there early for special pick up orders from the fish market section, but around Christmas it was quite chaotic. In the take out line, it is best to take a number, but even with that, things can really get fouled up. Luckily friendly folk were all around to insure that they were in the same boat as I, and you just grin and bear it to finally get taken care of. One gentleman, who thought he was the 'King' of all ordering experts, announced to the crowd in line that he was smarter than everyone else and had called in his order already, and he was going to be waited on immediately. ( I had called in my order also) He formed his own line, but sorry dude, that didn't work out. I was out of there before him and he had get a number like everyone else and stand there. All the clerks at all counters can be harried, distracted, impatient, and confusing. You have to overlook all that. Overall it is a really cool place with lots of charm in the center of Wheeling.
Enough Fish in One Sandwich for Two. Some people say it smells fishy. Well, it's a fish store that also sells sandwiches and other goodies.
Some people say it's not very fancy. Well, it's a fish store that also sells sandwiches and other goodies.
What Coleman's has to offer is tasty fish that needs no tartar sauce or anything else. It's served on the plainest of bread so that it doesn't interfere with the flavor and texture of the fish. (Shrimp and chicken sandwiches are also available.)
I lived in the area for a few years in the 1970s and found the place. Now it's a 130-mile trip (one way) to visit Coleman's. No trip to or through Wheeling is complete without a stop here. If you want to take some home, they'll pack the fish separately from the bread.
Wonderful.
Just don't expect white tablecloths, waiters, and a wine list. It's a fish store that also sells sandwiches and other goodies.
The picture is of a sandwich that we brought home and contains less fish than you get in the restaurant.
Local Icon. Coleman's is an acquired taste usually from birth for most folks from the Ohio Valley. You get in line and order the sandwich , the bread is perfect and the fish is divine. Best fish sandwich I've ever had and ever will have - never found anything better even at the beach!
I have never had a bad meal here. It's always fresh and always filling.
Coleman's Fish. I have grown up in Wheeling and I love Coleman's fish. Sometimes I wish it was still a true open air market with a fruit stand at the other end!! I think visitors are not as crazy about Coleman's fish as locals are. This is the freshest fish you will find in this area and when you develope a taste for it you will never forget it. Also, the soups are really good, esp. in winter!!
Best Fish Sandwich. Coleman's never disappoints. Some whine about the Wonder Bread. The bread's only job is to keep your hands from burning while eating a great piece of fish. You can have those fish sandwiches with big buns. The big buns, lettuce and tomato make up for mediocre fish.......
Just Plain Good. Work nearby, and the smell on Fridays is absurdly awesome. Went to try it. No fuss - fish on wonder bread. But the best you'll ever eat!
Its OK. I was hungry. I got the fish sandwich. It was on store bough bread. I ate it. Don't get me wrong, it was good, but I don't see what the fuss is about. If you are in the mood for a fish sandwich, this will do, but I wouldn't call it the best. The fries were really good, and as I was leaving, somebody recommended the cole slaw. I'd go back.

I love there fish they have great fish and fries
I loveColeman's. My husband and I eat Coleman's about once a week, and always order the same thing: two fish sandwiches, bread separate (you get more fish that way!) two shrimp rolls, he gets jojo fries, and if they have it, I get the New England clam chowder. I made the mistake of ordering the lobster bisque once; it's the only thing I've had there that I don't absolutely love.
Great fish !. The best fish sandwich you can get! Comes ultra plain on white bread, but don't let that fool you. Alligator soup, too! My wife, kids, and I love going here when we are in the area!
I love it, I miss it so!. I grew up on Wheeling Island and Coleman's fish. You can't get a better fish sandwich anywhere for any price. When I get within 100 miles of Wheeling, I plan at least one trip to Center Market to get a couple sandwiches.
The Three Things You'll Miss. A wise man once told me that there were three things that I would miss when I moved away from Wheeling. Number One was Coleman Fish! He was definitely a very wise man. I need not say anything about this establishment other than fantastic and the good news is that those feesh samiches travel well back to Morgantown. Honestly when it comes to voting I feel that Urbanspoon shoul employ a "To Die For" button to used for special occasions such as these. I will eat them on a boat, I will eat them in a moat...well, you know the rest but who would have thought that fish and wonder bread could be so addictive?
The Best.... I don't even like seafood all that much but this is the BEST fish sandwich I've ever eaten. I grew up eating Coleman's fish and still can't find a suitable comparison. My husband thought I was crazy when I suggested he dip his sandwich into ketchup but after he did so he quickly switched his tartar sauce for ketchup. Admittedly, the sandwich doesn't look like much, fried fish crammed between two slices of Wonder Bread, all wrapped in wax paper but it is heaven on earth. After you eat this, you'll never look at fish sandwiches the same again!
Eating at Coleman's from Birth!!. Coleman's Fish Market is the staple of Center Wheeling, it's not the fish or the oil that makes it the best for an anytime fish sandwich it is the love folded in to each sandwich by the hard working staff on the other side of the counter. You can have your fish sandwich and shop for the freshest sea food in the valley at Coleman's. Take home is an option many choose but you can eat in the old "Open Market" and meet with many of your friends. The seating is Spartan but confinable. I have been eating or picking up fish for lent at Coleman's since I was able to cross the streets (The late 50's), the taste, quality of the fish and value has never been beaten by any of the new chain restaurant. By the way I grew up in "Centre Wheeling" and have seen all the changing faces of Coleman's but the "Fish Sandwich" has stayed the same good to the last bite.

This is a hometown favorite, anyone that is a fan of wheeling, is a fan of the fish market, yes they serve their generous portions of golden fried pollock on wonderbread, but it's the clean taste of the fish that makes the sandwich! They also have unusual freshwater seafood sides, fries, rings, & alligator soup, crabcakes & live lobsters on hand for purchase, the freshest raw fish in the area! & a nifty little recipe machine to assist u with ur seafood purchase!
Local favorite. Best fish sandwich in Wheeling. They also have really good egg rolls, deviled crabs, slaw, and fries. Very affordable. They do get busy on Fridays and Saturdays, be prepared to stand in a line.
We did a quick stop to pick up their fresh whiting fish for the Holiday weekend. As usual it cooked up so wonderful.
You can't go wrong with Coleman's fish!
Great fish sandwiches and great service. We stop in every time we're in Wheeling.
Alwayse delicious! The classic fish sandwich is the best around. The other menue items are also great. Very efficient at providing quick delivery of orders even when very busy.
Great place to eat.Fish is excellent, service is personal and excellent choice.
Fish sandwich was excellent, make sure you have it put on a bun, they put on slices of bread makes it to soft.tryed the crab cake not a fan of it, it tasted to fishey. Cole slaw was good, clam chowder great, lobster bisque great. Must try if your in the area.
The fish sandwiches are always super good and they give you more than one piece on it. The gator soup was alright but it only had 3-4 pieces of meat in it.
