Allen`s is a tradition in Winston-Salem!!!. We love this place! Allen`s always has alot of folks inside (and out) eating their fantastic Foot-Long Hot Dogs, Homemade Southern food and the Homemade Ice Cream. They have a large menu and everything is fantastic! They are the only place in Winston-Salem that I know where you can get a soft-serve ice cream and get a Chocolate, Cherry or Butterscotch topping coating. This place is VERY easy to find. It is very close to WFU and near Roses Department Store. The previous reviewer was incorrect when they acted like this place was far out of Winston- because it is NOT!! The staff is very nice and the same family has run this place for over 40 years. I wish that they had Breakfast, but they open at 10 AM for lunch and stay open late. This place is a MUST to visit often for great food for everybody in the Piedmont!

Nice for a hot dog or some ice cream. This mom and pop dairy bar has been operating here for over 35 years, so they are doing somethings right. This is a fast food setup, you order at the counter, pay, get your ticket, wait for the call. There is a separate dining area with 12 to 15 plastic booths, functional but not comfortable.
The hot dog is very ineresting, at least to me. The bun is toasted in a sandwich press, which not only toasts the bun, but also compresses it. The chili is a flavorful, rather dry item, and the wiener is decent. The combination of the compressed, toasted bun, and the dry chili reminds me of the hot dogs served years and years ago at Wolf's Soda Shop on Spring Garden Street, below Lindley Junior High School - in other words, this is a pretty good chilii dog.
The burger is thin, greasey, and doesn't have a lot of flavor, I'd pass. They have both dipped and soft-served ice cream, and the soft can be dipped. Quite a few folks ordered ice cream while I was there. This place is way out Reynolda, and not necessarily a destination spot, but if you happen out that way, there are some items you might like here
Amazing!. It's really just a hole-in-the-wall place but the ice cream is amazing! The hot-dogs are great also! If anyone goes there I would suggest getting just a simple Ice-cream cone and pick one of their homemade flavors. Even their motto is cute! "After 37 years, If we don't have it. You don't need it"
