The BEST Indian Food. We have been going to Mountain Gate Restaurant since 1994 when it was in Oliveira, NY and my In-laws had a house right down the road. Now my husband and I put our two boys in the car and drive 2 hours each way just to eat at Mountain Gate. The Induri Soup is the absolute best! If you haven't been to Mountain Gate, you must go!
Delicious!. Amazing Indian food in the area. The Naan and Tandoori Chicken was amazing!
The wait was time average and the workers were very kind and seemed to work hard.
If you plan on having a nice quite meal best time would be going on Sunday Night or during the weekdays.
Great food (veg), cooked perfectly. Not sure if "Tandoor not working" hence no Nans & Kulcha is a good customer experience, esp on Sunday for Dinner. This is my second time dinner with them and I drove 15 miles out of my way just to have good Indian food in the Catskills
This place is amazing! Best Indian food in the Hudson Valley! Don't miss this gem if you're in Woodstock. I usually order to go, as I live nearby and the food is always super delicious! The inside may be a bit outdated, especially compared to the "more fancy" restaurants in town, but don't let the decor fool you, the food is better then any other restaurant in town. The vegetable parkora and lamb vindaloo are my go-too. Try it for yourself.
The food here is SO GOOD. Everything we got was incredible, and our server was so kind, helpful, and accommodating. His suggestions were spot on, and he went out of his way to make us feel welcomed. The samosas were fresh hot, crispy, and so flavorful. The coconut soup was so good I got a second order for dessert! Somehow it’s sweet, light, and filling all at once. Portions were very generous and the presentation was really beautiful. Everything was so fresh! Hands down one of our favorite restaurants (not just in Woodstock, but in general) and we’ll be back every time we’re in town!
This is without a doubt, the best Indian food in the Hudson Valley. The chai tea is outrageously good, all of the soups are one of a kind and incredible and the entree was next level. 10/10 - definitely come and support an awesome locally owned business that’s been around for years
Thank you thank you thank you!!! Ordered in tonight because I wasn’t feeling well. Almost didn’t because I’ve never had Indian food delivery not come in those plastic containers. First time got a sustainable delivery! (And the food is great too!)
Great Indian food right in Woodstock. We’ve had Indian food all over including in the city. This place does not disappoint. Some of the best we’ve had. Sometimes the service can be a tad slow but that’s because everything is made fresh. If you don’t mind a short wait, this place is great. Highly recommend!
Food was surprisingly good. Food portions definitely on the smaller side, but we were all very pleased with the meal. Tips for take out - do not order online! They do not check their online orders. Order via telephone. Add 20 mins to their estimated time. (They said 30-40 minutes and it took an hour. Saw several other waiting as well).
This is absolutely the best Indian food I have ever had in my life hands-down! It’s a family owned business and the quality of the food and the spirit of the service are truly unparalleled. Be assured, this is a restaurant of exceptional quality; one in a million!
This restaurant took me by surprise in the best way possible, I was completely overwhelmed by the quality and flavor of the food. Outstanding! I will be sure to be back many many times to enjoy this gem within the Woodstock community. The soup was so good that I wanted to swim in it.
Fantastic experience! The lamb chunks were HUGE and very tender. The spice level was perfect and everything was hot and fresh. Some of the best samosas I’ve ever had!
Mountain Gate Indian Restauranr is one of Woodstock's real hidden gems. It is the best Indian food I have ever had - delicious, fresh, and homemade. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Just don't leave without having tried the Malai Kulfi ice cream for dessert!
The family who runs Mountain Gate are wonderful. The atmosphere is lovely. Truly everything about this restaurant is the real deal!
Had a dinner with my husband on a Monday night. We were the only diners on arrival. Had not visited for many years. The place looked exactly the same. It was very hot, no air. We sat near the back and asked for the door to be opened, Very courteous server. She was new. We ordered the vegetable samosa, papadum, lamb curry and tandoori chicken I confirmed with her that it was prepared in a clay oven. We also wanted medium spicy. Luckily we had the latest Chronogram Magazine to keep us occupied. Waited almost an hour and appetizers were served. Samosa consisted of mashed potatoes with a tiny amount of peas. Nicely spiced. Papadum seemed store bought type.Condiments were yogurt, green mint, and red sauced onions. Tamarin sauce was not available. 15 Minutes later lamb curry was served. Huge lean chunks of lamb in a tasty curry sauce accompanied by a large plate of rice . Tandoori chicken arrived sizzling hot consisting of a large leg and breast. Great color, hot and charred. Very tasty.
Ice-cream desert was not available. During our stay there were a few take outs and two other diners were seated. An extra charge for credit card use was indicated at the door. I will do take out next time and order an hour in advance.
Love their food, nice staff, owner is nice though it seems he comes out of the kitchen less these days. The only disappointment I have is in their rice tasting a little buttery and being a little oily rather than a nice fluffy jade rice which I'm used to. I usually call ahead and go pick it up about 45 minutes later, would be nice if it was open more hours but understandable it is not.'
Edit: I posted this comment right after I ordered tonight and if it was my first time eating here it would've been a 1, but I've been eating here for over a decade and this was my first time with the multiple issues I had.
I loved the decor, it made me feel like I was actually in India. The music was also very enjoyable. The service was a bit slow, but I didn't mind. I also loved the food, the food was very delicious and I liked the spiciness of all the different varieties of food. The desserts too were delightful. I will definitely come back again. The prices, I think were suited for the food, and not too pricey. The appetizers were pretty cheap although, but either way the appetizers-and the entrees and dessert- were exquisite. And, being in Woodstock town it's a very short drive from my house so I can just drive up the road for Indian food whenever I want. Fine service, exquisite food, and lovely decor. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who lives in/near Woodstock, you won't regret it.
Came here on a Sunday evening with my family and had a wonderful time! The place has a cool authentic vintage vibe. The food was delicious and the nan was so fresh and fluffy. They have options for everyone (veggie and meat) Highly recommend the mango lassi and lamb korma. It’s a great family-owned business. Come visit if you’re looking for yummy food!
ordered the lamb saag, chicken tikka masala and a plain naan to go. rich and full of flavor, great balance of spices, everything tasted clean and fresh. british-indian style cooking done really well for the USA - i'd take my family from the UK here and they would be very happy. going to give this another go very soon!!!
I had dinner here once in Aug. and once so far in Sept. I won't sugar coat anything so being right up front I found the food was very good plus you can have it made to order particularly regarding the level of spice and heat (mild to hot). The only concerns which are being addressed are the current waiter (not experienced) and the facility is clean but aging.
