A little hard to find if you don't know it is there, Diya is a gem of restaurant. Above the Smokehouse restaurant that used to Echo on Lee Street in Old Town is a great Indian Restaurant. Seriously, some of the best naan, butter chicken and samosas you will ever have. Very generous quantities and nicely spiced. A decent selection of beer as well. It has a really cute, brick spot with chandeliers. Could do a little better with the art work that seemed out of place. We were there on a rainy week night, so it was pretty empty. My only complaint would be the waitress was watching loud videos on her phone while not working. The food, however, was top notch. Will definitely be back.
First visit to this restaurant & we are impressed. Read mixed reviews about the restaurant before going, so was skeptical. But glad that we tried. We didn't try too many things but whatever we tried was amazing. We started off with chatpate spicy and it does complete justice to its name. The rice puff & noodles chat was tangy, fresh and spicy. My kiddo loves tandoori chicken but has been disappointed too many times because in most places although it looks good, taste will be bland. But here, he couldn'tstop talking about how yummy the sizzling tandoori chicken was. Myself & hubby shared shrimp biryani and it was flavorful and amazing. Will definitely recommend & I will be visiting again soon. 😋
Absolutely phenomenal. This is truly some of the best Indian food I've had. Bonus points for prices that are lower than you'd expect for the area, great ambiance and cleanliness, and staff that were incredibly accommodating and gracious. I will 100% add this to my "must visit when nearby" list.
The food took a little time to come out - I actually appreciated that because the place wasn't terribly busy and was an indication to me that they actually take time to prepare it with care. The end result was amazing food. The Vindaloo was proper spicy, and was so impressed I got Butter Chicken to go. They have a small beer selection, but the 6 or so choices cover most anything someone would want flavor wise. They had a much more extensive wine selection.
I will definitely recommend this to anyone in Alexandria Old Town.
