Came here for fifty year class reunion dinner. Very nice place on the Johns Hopkins University campus. Pricey, but nicely designed. They have a Nobel room where they show the name of Nobel Laureates from Hopkins. Two of them were in my medical school class.
Anyway, getting back to the review, the staff people were helpful, efficient and friendly. The hors d'oeuvres were generous, warm and delicious.
The salad was arugula salad. I can't understand why anyone eats arugula. It's bitter and unpleasant. But lots of the people at the reunion ate their salad so I suppose it must have tasted the way it was supposed to taste.
It took a really long time for them to serve the main course. My wife and I ordered the chicken as our main course. Both of us noted that the chicken was cold by the time it was served. I took off a star because of that.
The desert was buffet style. I selected the pistachio cheesecake. It was amazing. This was the first time I ever tasted cheesecake that was better than New York cheesecake.
You have to be a member or the guest of a member in order to eat here, and you have to be associated with the university, a graduate or a faculty member, to join. I've never joined so this is the first time I have been here since I graduated. It's a nice place to eat if you have plenty of money and if you don't mind eating chicken that's no longer warm.
I grew up going to the Hopkins Club and have wonderful memories of being there with my parents and siblings. We rejoined some years later and have enjoyed Sunday brunches and Thanksgiving dinners at the Hopkins Club. Great food, wonderful staff and memories that will last a lifetime. Hopefully the club will survive this pandemic and return to providing great dining experiences to its student/alumni community.
This is a members only place. Family and friends are welcomed with a member. It is a beautiful, well maintained building on the grounds of Johns Hopkins University. It is pricey but worth it to me. A bill is sent to you.
JHC is closed every Monday. Food service is offered for Sunday brunch; lunch buffet; dinner buffet, dinner in the main dining room or lunch ordered from the menu. The bar selection is very nice. There is a birthday night Event that offered half price meals to the member. Reservations must be made the Friday before the event. It is a nice festive event. There is a catering department for those interested in having a private event from 6 to 300 people. The main dining room is for more formal affairs business casual and the Tap room is not so formal. This is a nice little gem in Baltimore City. There are special events offered for every major holiday. There is a very nice Mother's Day Dinner; then there is a Hugh cookout for Father's Day. I recommend this place as a special for your Family, friends, and yourself.
