I loved this place. Drove up to spend the afternoon with my son, who goes to LSU. The patio is delightful. The hot green tea was served in a cute cup. The food was super fresh. My son got the Death Valley and I got the sexiest man alive. So good. I would definitely recommend this place. Gabrielle was a great server ��
First time dining in at Umami, I have to say that it is by far the best sushi restaurant I ever been to. It isn't your avenger sushi restaurant. I don't go to sushi restaurant just for the sushi, I just get full fast off of it. So far, my favorite dish is: Bone Marrow, Sake Tora & the A5 Japanese Wagyu. The Wagyu was pretty pricey but well worth the money and the service was one point.
Chef Cong is a visionary.The aji was perfect...the green tea crepe was an unexpected treat.Yes the hangover soup was as advertised-the best in town.However the ace in the hole was the highly efficient and thankfully opinionated staff who led us on our menu exploration.
We will be back.
Omgosh so very glad we found you .Fresh great tasting sushi and the green tea crepe dessert was perfect.This place is definitely 5stars .Our server Michele was happy efficient and made my daughter and I feel welcomed as it was our first visit. And will not be our last. Fantastic sushi spot even the music was top❤️

Great experience from start to finish (both food and service). Chef Cong delivers a fusion of flavors that adds a modern twist to expected traditional menu. The food is more of an art...almost too pretty to eat. A must try in Baton Rouge.
1st time ever eating sushi an i'm glad it was at #Umami Japanese Bistro. Nice clean place, Kim who waited on us made us feel welcomed an answered questions about the menu an the food. We sat & ate at the bar an had good talked with Phi who is a very good chef an knowlodgeable about the sushi an sashimi rolls he made for us, which was very good an fresh.
I started off with Tako(octopus) & Maguro(Tuna). For the Entree we ordered Umami an Dynmite. Once again the food was fresh an tasted good and had à chance to talk to the owner as well.
I will diffently recommend #Umami Japanese Bistro for your1st time or if you tried other places. An I will be back again.
I can't recommend this place enough! Do yourself a favor and sit at the sushi bar. We were laughing and enjoying ourselves the entire night. Chef Cong took special care of me with my gluten allergy and I can't thank him enough. Everything he made was superb and obviously made out of his love for what he does. The rest of the staff is fantastic as well. Next time I am in town I will certainly be back!

I came in today with my wife and asked if we could get served within 20 minutes to make it to the basketball game. We had two amazing rolls: sexiest man alive & geisha. By the time the food was out and when we were finished I looked at the time and we were only there for 15 minutes! We sat at the sushi bar and the experience was amazing. There is a modern classy ambience and the staff is very knowledgeable of the menu as well as very generous.
I've traveled all over Asia and let me say, this is the best Ramen I've ever had. And I love that my pup can sit outside and enjoy dinner with me. Favorite place!!

Sushi bar was delicious, got the oyster shooters taste of Japan and a single piece of bluefin otoro and my ticket was only $60! def coming back
I had the Rock N Roll sushi and it was delicious. At first I was a little disappointed because there were only 5 rolls, but after eating them I became quite full. As you can see they are a decent size. I had them delivered, so the overall total was about $20. Had I called and picked it up, it would've only been like $11 something. I have been inside a time or two and it looks nice. I do plan to actually dine in one day.
The patio is a nice option until Summer really arrives. Servers are medium good, nothing to complain about. The sushi is good, a real solid B. Nothing stands out as a magnificent triumph, but again, there's nothing to complain about. It's just fine, which is a step up from most of its neighbors. The price point feels slightly inflated, but is there any other Pan Asian fusion place nearby?
p.s.- Probably a decent place for a date.

Absolutely Superb! Very Upscale Modern Chilled Atmosphere. Everything was top notch fresh like it just came out of the sea to your table. Highly recommend and would definitely come back when we are on that side of town. Delicacy at it finest!
Awesome service here for a game day! Great food as well. What a perfect ending to a mother daughter day. We will definitely be back agsin.
