We had a large party so we were challenging. Our server, Sarah, was simply amazing! Knowledgeable, friendly, thoughtful and flexible. Two members of our party didn't make it until we had all eaten. Sarah managed to flow all of the service seamlessly.
The food was astonishingly!! So many complex and wonderful flavors! Gin and Tonic Oysters, lump crab meat, apple fennel salad with manchego cheese, seafood paella, tenderloin that melted in our mouths, rabbit with apricot sauce... the kids even ordered a chicken one that tasted just like chicken pot pie! The flavor nuances were so intricately woven together and it was so much fun tasting and sharing such a wide array of dishes.
I had the flan for dessert. The texture was sheer perfection! It was the best flan I've ever had, and I've been a flagrant flan fan for over 40 years.
This was my favorite gastronomic adventure in decades. Thank you so much Jaleo!
We were a party of eight without a reservation, and really got lucky to get a large table in the back. Eventually our party grew with an additional two family members, and the waiter took this all in stride. The food came out well timed, perfect temperature, and tasting delicious. The manager checked with us several times, to make sure that we were enjoying our time there. Most impressive was their attention to detail when several of our party had to address food allergy issues. This was the best Spanish food that we have eaten since being in Barcelona last Spring. I would strongly recommend.
Food to die for!
Never been there before. My sister didn't stop talking about it so I went to see what the fuss was all about. The atmosphere is amazing, the people are wonderful. But more than anything else, the food is extraordinary! Best food I have had in years. Highly recommend it. You will not be disappointed.
Incredible...from the cocktails to the food to the dessert...simply amazing....bombas, and the citrus pistachio salad were standouts, along with the seared salmon...flan was perfection...I could go on but bottom line, just go...
Hey you have to try the malecular olives.
And the squid in its ink,is amazing,
Bethesda is a great place for fine dining and laid-back drinking
We had a tasting menu for a work event and every single dish was amazing. Our whole table left happy and with full stomachs. Staff was fantastic as well.
A wonderful evening with a memorable tasting. We will return. Thanks! The pork tenderloin and Endive with orange, almond shaving and goat cheese were our favorite
My go-to restaurant for dinner with friends. It's centrally located and easy to get to from most pets of the city or beltway, the food and service are always great, and you can have a little bit of everything-my favorite way to eat. I have my favorite items but there is always a yummy new special. It's great for vegetarians and carnivores!
Fantastic food, great service. Had no idea what to order as there was so much. Left it with the amazing waitress
Our go-to brunch spot in Bethesday. Amazing food and sangria...
Great food, great wine served by great people. Pace yourself.
We hold our rotary meetings here every Thursday morning and the breakfast items are varied and delicious. The staff is terrific as well!
I hosted a special work event at Jaleo with the help of Maggie. It was fantastic. We enjoyed a menu of 17 different tapas. People who were 'tapas virgins' were blown away! The paella was to die for! Perfect venue for business (and pleasure) events with no worry as to food and service! Thank you team Jaleo for making me look good!
Absolutely incredible place. It had been 9 years since my last visit to Jaleo, and it was just as amazing if not better than I remembered!

Un lugar muy cálido, la atención de Gustavo excelente y la comida muy rica, me encanta venir a Jaleo, muchas felicidades.
Pricey, but you're paying for the full experience and you get to try multiple flavor sensations in one sitting.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. My friend and I attended a cooking class last night and it was wonderful! Chef Robert and Chef Jose were informative, patient and excellent instructors. Our meal was above and beyond expectations. Oh, I also learned some very handy knife skills :)
Service was spot on, ambiance was nice, drinks were fine, small plate food was quite good, but I was disappointed in the main dish. The paella was quite pungent in odor, and that was reflected in the taste. I don't think I would visit for dinner again, but a happy hour wouldn't be out of the question.
Very interesting flavors.
This restaurant is worth a visit.
If I had time, I would have tried the jambalaya, which takes 45 minutes to prepare. It looks like it would be delicious.
Con: We had a party of 10 and they split us up. The restaurant was not crowded and we were seated far away from each other. This was a business lunch, where remote workers were meeting their co-workers in person for the first time. That was a smite bumming.
“I highly recommend this restaurant in Bethesda. It offers a spacious dining area with a lovely patio. The food is not only delicious but also budget-friendly on Mondays and Tuesdays, where you can enjoy excellent paella at half price. Moreover, the service is impressively responsive, even when you have a complaint. It’s a fantastic spot for dining!”
Service was excellent, and the dishes we tried were very good. It was a little uncomfortable in the resteraunt while we were eating though. It was pretty hot and humid - the windows were closed due to a storm and they didn't get the AC going to compensate. Sweating bullets while eating wasn't the best experience.

I recently dined at this establishment, and while the tapas were a delightful treat and the sangria truly stood out, I must admit that the paella did not quite meet my expectations. However, the redeeming qualities lie in their renowned sandwiches, delectable tapas, and the noteworthy sangria. I highly recommend indulging in their signature sandwiches and tapas while sipping on the exceptional sangria.
Amazing food. The shrimp appetizer and the pork meatballs were delectable. And the desserts - the flan and the rice pudding, were outstanding. A must visit in Bethesda.
Went with friends and had a wonderful time. The food was new to us and everything tasted delicious! Our waitress was very knowledgeable and she did amazing answering all our questions. One of the bartenders named Christian recommended this place to us and I’m glad we listened! Definitely will be back.
Stopped in for a late afternoon lunch and greeted unenthusiastically by a bore hostess. It only got better from there. First time visit and excited to review menu which offered all day breakfast and a variety of entrees and smaller plates. Was hoping to try the soup special but learned it was sold out after ordering, and wished our waitress knew in advance. Everything we tried was delicious! Price points all trend high for a "diner" including $5 for an iced tea. All in spent over $110+ for lunch for two that did not include alcohol.
I cannot say enough good things about our experience here! We came for lunch during DC restaurant week, so we decided to try a few of the drinks and I am SO happy we did. While I could have used some hot sauce for the chicken stew and the arroz a la cubana, the patatas bravas have the perfect balance of heat, acidity, and creaminess. We also tried the jamon-stuffed 'bombas,' which have the same sauces as the patatas and were just as delectable. But if you come here with a limited budget or less space in your stomach, you cannot miss the apps & the desserts. All 3 of us agreed that the flan was the best we've ever had in our collective 160+ years on this planet, and the grapefruit sorbete was creamy with a hint of bitterness and tang.
I'll be back for a flan & a cafe bombon on the regular!
Made an online order on the Restaurant Week Menu for 4 To Go the day before. Received a text notification “Your order at Spanish Diner - Bethesda is now ready” 10 minutes prior to the pickup time. However, when I hurried inside to the staff, the order was not actually ready. Told them to disable such automatic notification to confuse patrons. While waiting, had a great time chatting with Manager Jose. There is a huge lighted box sign on the wall, which is like the one outside school, inn,or gas station. Right at the pickup time, our order came out of the kitchen promptly. The food were in two paper bags. At home, we enjoyed the gazpacho as cold as they were. The large mixta was alright for four people. The ucraniana was nicely presented, but only with two tomatoes on its top. The bravas were well done in shining golden color. The pollo guisado were very juicy and tasty over white rice. The sauce of the albondigas leaked outside the container and made the bottom of the carry out bag saggy, but they were still tender and delicious. Two cups of flans and two slices of tarta de queso were great to conclude this wonderful dinner at home.
Spanish Diner Bethesda
Our first time here on Saturday nite, busy as expected, made reservations for 7.15 pm got there 15 mins early and got seat in 5 minutes later. We saw people plates before ordering, all look delicious, and when we come up with Paella, the server said it won’t be enough to full ours, as it will be just like a tapas or light snack size. So we ordered 3 entrees and 1 kid meal.
- Arroz a la Cubana, 2 fried eggs with sauted rice, tomato sauce and iberico pork sausage. It was good plate and turned out not filling enough, maybe a good choice for breakfast.
- Bacalao frito con pisto manchego, fried salted spanish cod with traditional stew of eggplants, pepper and zucchini. We ordered rice and that’s an additional charge of $6. This one is good! The stew really stands out from the plain fried cod fish.
- Fricando de ternera, traditional catalan beef stew mushrooms, fried potatoes. You have to dip the fried potatoes into the sauce and add a piece of meat to eat them together, that’s the perfect combo!
- Kid meal, ham and cheese panini with french fries and that’s just ok, this kid meal is not included any juice or fruits.

Absolutely delicious food. No reservations about any of the tapas or paella. Our servers gave a few recommendations and all of them were perfect. Since they are tapas, plates are small so you'll get only a bite of each dish if four or more people in your party. Plates are expensive and rack up quick. Reservations recommended.
This was our first time at José Andreas‘s Spanish Diner, and we are definitely now going to be return customers. We love José‘s restaurants because of his creativity, excellent food and generous philanthropy. The decor was really fun and relaxed, with upscale food and drink presentations, incredible flavors and choices of both small plates and regular entrées, along with excellent service. We were fans of José’s Jaleo restaurant at this location, but had not been back since the renovations as Spanish Diner. We both highly recommend this restaurant for a casual, unique and wonderful dining experience!
I had a really enjoyable dining experience at Spanish Diner. The service was top notch. The food was exceptional, especially the Bikini Mixto Bocata and Arroz Con Leche. I was thrilled to discover that they serve Kas Limon soda. If I were capable of eating more food, I would have ordered more! I will certainly be back to try more menu items.
