When you eat at Mussels & More, you really do get mussels & MORE. You get mussels AND Jim AND delicious food AND amazing hospitality.
After reading so many great reviews about this place, we decided to check it out to see if the reviews were true. We originally ordered take-out because we had our baby with us so we thought about just bringing the food back home and eating it from there. By the time we got our food, the baby fell asleep in the stroller and we realized we should take advantage of the time and eat our food there instead. We asked Jim if it would be ok if we can sit down and eat our take out at the restaurant and he was so gracious to let us do that. And then he served us at the table even though we kept telling him that we were not really sitting down to eat since we did not know how long we had with the baby asleep. We were so incredibly touched by his kindness and the hospitality that he and his staff gave us. Not only that, the food was also delicious. I recommend the classic mussels and fried clams.
TLDR: Friendly and observant staff, delicious food, cozy environment.
We went as a party of three around 6:30pm on a Friday. The restaurant is composed of two sections linked by a tiny corridor. The front section is bar seating with a few tables, while table seating is usually prioritized in the rear section as there are more seats. The kitchen is open-faced and visible in the rear section as well. The restaurant is a warm and dimly lit vibe. We were seated promptly in the rear section; the restaurant was pretty empty. As the course of our meal progressed, more and more customers arrived until the entire rear and much of the front section was filled by the time we left around 7-7:15.
We ordered the Soup of the Day (Lobster Bisque), Linguine Seafood With White Wine Sauce, Lobster Ravioli, and Fra Diavolo Mussels with pasta (linguine) on the side. You also have the option to choose french fries, but we figured more pasta never hurt anybody. The soup came out promptly, and the rest of our food followed shortly. The lobster bisque was hot, rich, and creamy. There were large lobster chunks in it. It was very satisfying to sip on and warmed us up on the cold autumn day. The seafood linguine was also rich and creamy, but it had the added slight sourness of the white wine, which made for a complex but irresistible flavor. The seafood was fresh and plentiful: calamari squid, shrimp, mussels. The lobster ravioli came in large pieces and smothered by a creamy tomato sauce. This was very delicious, with the cheese and minced lobster filling on the inside and chunks of lobster on the outside. Finally, the mussels came in a light but spicy tomato sauce (which was really soup more than a sauce). The sauce had great flavor and had a perfect kick to it. The mussels were fresh and there was plenty to go around. The pasta on the side was unremarkable, but when mixed with the sauce from any other plate, could serve well as a mini pasta dish or a kids meal.
The staff were friendly and extremely attentive. When they noticed we were out of water, they brought us more without needing a reminder. This also applied for the hot water that we requested, which is usually easily overlooked. Much props to them.
Overall I'd recommend this spot in a heartbeat. I've visited a couple times before and each time the food was delicious. This is definitely a neighborhood classic. The food, service, and ambience were on point. The prices were also perfectly reasonable. 10/10 experience, would return.
Had a fantastic night at this restaurant. I have to appologize to the staff for staying overtime while they were ready to leave. I gave them a lil extra but that doesn't excuse my behavior so I would like to apologize to them first. We had some appetizers first while waiting for the others. The restaurant wasn't very busy so they sat us to a table real fast. I don't know why there's not more people there. So we ordered a fried zuchinni and a margarita pizza. The zuchinni is the best I ever had. I love zuchinni fries so i order them every chance i get. The seasoning could be better but really no complaints. The zuchinni was very fresh and juicy and the crust was super crunchy. Hats off to the chef. The pizza is really good. Nothing spectacular but it's good for a magarita. We then got the mussels with a few different flavors, the paella, clams on the half shell, baked clams and even tho we were full we ordered desserts too.. everything was so good. the octopus not that much. the clams in the half shell is like the rest. But overall it was a fantastic experience and the food is definitely unique and delicious. Will definitely come back for more.
