I made a last minute birthday reservation and we were so glad we chose Tortoise! They had a birthday card waiting at the table and our waitress acknowledged the occasion when we were seated. We felt instantly at home in the cozy dining room! We had the seafood medly for an appetizer and it was delicious! I'd highly recommend starting with it...so much flavor! We loved our main entrees (steak / salmon). For dessert we were pleasantly surprised to pick out a sweet on the house. We decided on a generous slice of cherry pie with ice cream. Our waitress was so knowlegable about the entire menu and details about the restaurant's background. We had an early dinner because we had a show to see and when we came back to retrieve our car (also, free valet if you show your theatre tickets) it was super lively with the jazz band playing. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return!
We learned the menu is always changing which is a really awesome because they design their menu seasonally. True craftsmanship that shows through the entire experience.

Tortoise Supper Club is located at 350 N State Street, Chicago, IL. It features traditional American offerings served in an upscale space featuring a grand piano, classy jazz music, full bar, plush seating & fireplace.
The Menu
We were at The Tortoise Club for lunch. Great menu to many entrees to mention, but it's Chicago Restaurant Week, and who cares a three-course lunch is merely $22 and a great Martini's is only $6. Is this heaven or what? Who needs anything but a martini for an appetizer. We opened our meal with a full bodied and wonderful bowl or pea soup. This wasn't your typical pea soup by any stretch. The salads were very good as well. We had a couple entrees first was White Fish, Herb Crusted, Roasted Tomato, Grilled Artichoke, Olive, Couscous and an entree of Ahi Tuna all were Excellent!! Dessert well who could resist tortoise pie, a signature dessert of chocolate, walnuts, whipped cream and bourbon-caramel sauce. Amazing! We also had an order of Rosé Sorbet, Always good.
The Service/Experience/Value
Our service was very good! Lunch in under an hour is excellent. The value, given it was restaurant week, was outstanding. Warm inviting place busy but not crazy with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend!!!

Exactly what you would imagine when walking into a Chicago “Supper Club”! Old school awesome with a great staff and wonderful live jazz! Food was fabulous and they have amazing happy hour deals to boot ($1 Shrimp & Oysters)! I highly recommend them for a jazzy, retro, “Rat Pack cool” kind of place with phenomenal food & service!
