The food and service was amazing! The grilled calamari was magnificent. The chicken parmigiana was to die for. We have two picky 8 year olds who ate all of their food ( and some of ours!). We will definitely be back
very friendly and attentive waitress. I guess this place is family-owned restaurant. Ordered the mussel in white wine, which was delicious. I got fillet mignon which was overcooked (ordered medium, but got well done).
overall, it's a decent italian restaurant, but i think it's too expensive.
Best eggplant in the city, truly a rare find. Your food will not be made instantly but it will be made by hand by the owners. Second time I went there after getting the plate, Franco came from the kitchen and sat down at the bar. After eating we talked for hours about the city, about how he opened up the signature room. The couple that owns the place is truly a rare find, I suggest for quiet sit down dinner as the only noise you will hear is from the single tv at the bar or of other patrons. It is a very friendly place with a mellow atmosphere.
This is the perfect venue for a great Italian meal, all its missing is the music.
It is fantastic and the family that owns it make you feel your part of the family having dinner.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago.
Perfect for an evening with friends, or a celebration
I know we will go often now that we have been
Was incredible!
Was hoping to find a good place to eat in Chicago to give my wife and we hit the jackpot. The service was very good and personal, my wife has really bad acid reflux and they were able to make her something that was very tasty and still safe for her to eat. The waitress went through the menu with us to figure out something that would work with her acid reflux and still taste really good. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
Great food in a relaxed neighborhood restaurant. My absolute favorite Italian restaurant in Chicago.
Just read another not so hot review: NO, this is NOT a fast food restaurant. It's relaxed dining, like dining in Italy. Enjoy a glass of wine before diner. Enjoy a glass with dinner. The food is great. Enjoy being with your dining companion(s).
The food is authentic and delicious (do not pass on the Lasagna). The restaurant is nicely decorated. Make reservations if you are planning to go for weekend dinner. Parking can be tricky at times, but don't be discouraged by that.
Our family came here for Easter. We have vegetarian and gluten free eaters. They
found plenty on the menu. Very much a family owned and run environment. We loved the pasta dishes and appetizers. I will be back.
I have never had a bad meal here ! Actually, most of these home made dishes are outstanding !
LOVE the Chicken Parmigiana, LOVE the Pasta Carbonara ! My husband gets the whitefish, sometimes the eggplant puttanesca....YUM !!
Been eating here for over 25 years & I know the Chefs are willing do special requests.
I heartily recommend LaFontenella !
The hospitality was great. I had minestrone soup for the first time and they did it justice. Super fresh and tasty. The lasagna Bolognese was magnificent. Nice sized portions.
A great mom and pop restaurant with fresh, flavorful dishes. Olga the greeter/waitress and Franco the owner/chef are two of the friendliest folks you'll ever meet. Definitely worth a visit.
Love this place, all their food is great. The environment transfers you to be in the old Chicago 1930s. One almost feels you are in a mobster neighborhood that has authentic Italian food. Cheers! Enjoy!!
Stopped in for tiramisu and coffee--both were great--you'll be hard pressed to find a neighborhood like this without a time machine. You must visit this charming, pristine neighborhood a stone's throw from Saint Paul's (another must see). LIned with old world Italian restaurants, it is the true remaining Little Italy of Chicago. (I'm told they also have boisterous Father's Day festival every year.)
Come during Heart of Italy fest in June for one of the best neighborhood fests in the city. During the rest of the year it's a great spot for authentic family owned Italian food.
Delicious and fresh. The restaurant is so cozy and the staff is so polite and attentative. Had wine fresh warm bread, the ceasar salad, the calimari, and the baked artichokes. Everything was delicious.
