I've tried many farmer's markets around the Atlanta area and YDFM (Your Dekalb Farmer's Market) is by far the best around. I end up there about every two weeks to buy fresh produce - of particular note are the organics, often close to the same price as regular produce and much cheaper than Whole Foods, Rainbow or the other upscale markets. I do occasionally hit the Buford Hwy market as it's much closer to the house, but for all my regular staples I reserve my shopping for the Dekalb market - the cost savings makes it well worthwhile.
I also like the dry spices, the chipotle peppers and the occasional fresh fish - be careful though as some of those that appear fresh are actually frozen (look at the label card). Try the fresh maranara and other tomato sauces, also the fresh pasta (the gorgonzola ravioli is a favorite).
The cafeteria features international cuisine using recipes that seem to be from the various international workers of the farmers market itself. Many curried items, tons of fresh veggies, often that you may not have had before, offering up a taste to see if it's something you'd like to try in your own kitchen. For meats, there's usually a pasta dish like lasagna that's quite good and some type of chicken wings, also a roasted fish and fried chicken. The food is quite eclectic with many vegetarian options. Quite good overall.
One note, the market prices most items by weight - those that are really moist will weight quite a bit more which will drive up the price. I try to sample with that in mind and keep it under $8.
Had a lot from the bakery and ordered lemon bar, baklava, canolies, cheesecake and coconut muffins. Lemon bars, coconut muffins and baklava were great but canolies were soft and cheesecake was too dense. Over all a pretty good desert meal.
Great prices on many items! Our family favorite are the pre-made pizzas! The produce is fresh, and this is the ONLY place I will buy spices!
