Hey great barbecue find along 287 north near Decatur Texas. We ordered takeout because of Covid. I would love to have eaten inside this charming location, decorated in a casual vintage style. There was also a charming little patio area with a playground, for eating when the weather is warmer.
The ribs were excellent cooked to their succulent best. I prefer a sweeter barbecue sauce, nevertheless these were some great ribs! My husband had the smoked sausage and was equally pleased. We had coleslaw and potato salad as our sides, with a great piece of Texas toast. The sides were as good as we’ve ever had. Loved this place and would definitely come back.
Honest review from a Nationwide Truck Driving BBQ Connoisseur.
I came in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. Lots of large families, and it's perfect for that. I felt kind of out of place with my tennis shoes as everybody was wearing boots and many cowboy hats in this nice Texas town. There's plenty of parking in the dirt and gravel lot including room for trucks.
Decor and ambiance: 5 stars.
Very nicely done. See pics.
Service: 4 stars.
Wasn't bad but nothing special. You go through the line cafeteria style and they load your tray with meats, and you get your own sides from the cooler. I don't like that they prompt for a tip. A tip for what? For them showing up to work? I tip well for people that wait on me at my table, but this isn't that type of place.
Food: 4 stars.
I had the Brisket Plate, Lean.
The brisket tasted good, but since it was lean, it needed bbq sauce which is normal. It wasn't the best brisket in Texas, but it was good.
The BBQ sauce was good. I could recognize the flavor but can't put my finger on what it is... But it was good.
The macaroni salad was excellent.
The fries are where I was mostly disappointed. They were limp and soggy. See pics. They were seasoned with a light coating of salt and sugar.
The Iced Tea was good.
Overall, if I were a local, I'd likely be back to try their ribs and other plates.
I had their brisket, bacon jalapeno mac, fries, and BlackBerry cobbler. The brisket was well smaked and quite juicy. The mac was very flavorful but the cheese was runny. The cobbler was thick and the crust was pleasantly crunchy. The fries are homemade with the skin still on and fried to perfection. The outdoor patio is so relaxing with waterfalls and beautiful carvings.
