Tried the soup of the day and it was delicious! I wasn’t expecting anything special but the tamale soup was soooo good! It has the flavor of the tamale maze (the shell of the tamale) and thick with hominy pieces floating in it. The soup was the first I have tried tamales in this format. The Cali sandwich is smoky, full of flavor with flavorful fries. The staff is pleasant and professional.
Other than the fact that this place feels like it suffers from a identity crisis of what it wants to be (drinks, food, decor, tables, etc), I immensely enjoyed the experience overall. The service, drinks, and food were all fabulous. And it sits in a fantastic area with quick access to the pedestrian mall and theatre district. I’ll definitely be back to get seconds on that amazing cornbread and chicken pot pie.
Intimate without being pretentious!! I was visiting for the day and stumbled across this intimate, from-scratch restaurant, as they had a happy hour menu outside of the establisment: 3-6p. It was exactly 545p and they sat us immediately and proceeded to get our drink orders. The menu varied from $3-$8 for drinks or food and the portions were great for sharing. I have been recommending it ever since. We had our food and drinks promptly by 6p and left stuffed. Below are the chili brussel sprouts, truffle fries, steak nachos, korean steak tacos and the Moscow mule. I highly recommend this place!
