Kam's is a long-standing neighborhood Chinese restaurant in the Montrose area of Houston. My two boys and I have been coming here periodically for several years, and I will save this as one of the better Chinese restaurants in town. The quality of the food and preparation is in my opinion far better than PF Changs. I would not consider this a great dining experience, but, for a nice reasonably priced meal out in Chinese cuisine, this is a good choice to consider.
I visited this restaurant based on reviews, and I wasn't dissapointed. We arrived right at 5 (on a Saturday) and parking was directly behind the building and easily accessible. When they're crowded there may be a harder time finding parking nearby, as the lot is small. They have a great selection of Saké, though I stuck with a Japanese beer. It gives the feeling of a wine bar- but the bar is nestled off to the left so there's plenty of intimate seating all around. For my appetizers I had the spiced cucumber (basically as a palate cleanser) paired with a speciality dish including tofu. Great portions for Chinese cuisine. My friend had the fried rice and it was also good. Since chinese cuisine is meant to be shared I was grateful for the portions. I would definitely return, our waiter was attentive and helpful.
My favorite Chinese restaurant anywhere! Have been going since they opened...long before Zagat’s discovered them. Pay to valet as parking is limited. My two favorite appetizers are the Steamed Seafood Dumplings and the Crabmeat Cream Cheese Rolls. My only suggestion is to bring back the Shanghai Shrimp please! It was to die for!
