We had a special celebration and picked Soma for its food. Service didn't disappoint us either. We tried a couple of signature cocktails with our meal and our drinking buds were happy. We had raw quail eggs, salmon, tuna, raw shrimp and fried shrimp heads. All was fresh, tasty and presented very well. The best serving of the night was yellowfin tuna with foeis gras and jam! Yes, raw fish and fatty liver! The proportion of each was so perfect resulting in the most exquisite taste I've ever had! It's not our first time in this restaurant and, definitely, won't be the last.

First and foremost - they have a good chenin blanc on the happy hour drink menu. Second - the happy hour menu is awesome. We had the ceviche shooters (awesome), the tuna tartar (I thought it was good, DH was meh about them), the crevice tacos (again awesome and unique), the mermaid roll and the Irishman roll. Portions were good for the price and we were able to try a bunch of the dishes because nothing was overly heavy. Third, and most important. The service was great. Johnny at the sushi bar kept up with us and made sure drinks didn't go empty. I hadn't been there in ages and was happy that quality and flavor hadn't left.

There are some special individuals whom I just admire and appreciate, simply because there's a certain positive vibe and cool energy with them. We first met Chef Omi Higa last year while doing a catch up celebration of Vanessa's birthday after Hurricane Harvey, he successfully made that evening of Omakase at Kata Robata Sushi + Grill extra special for us. I was so happy to find out that Chef Higa is heading the Sushi Department at Soma Sushi, my visit there few months ago to try his version of Chirashi solidified my respect and admiration for him even more. Since Vanessa is on Summer Break, I was so glad today I could bring her to Soma Sushi for our lunch date to enjoy exceptional food prepared by Chef Higa. A Sushi place is as good as the overall competence of the whole team, and I noticed that Chef Higa has been training the chefs at the Sushi counter very well. I saw them concentrated and efficient in preparing the Sushi orders that kept coming in. A well organized and capable team of Sushi chefs reflects the great leadership and mentorship of the Executive Chef, and I see that in action, sitting at the Sushi bar. The Chirashi Sushi is one of the best in town, I would place it on equal level with Kata Robata. The fishes themselves are especially delicious and flavorful, which I find it's a talent that fantastic Sushi Chefs possess. The selection of fish is also very special, featuring some of the lesser found cut that stimulate my palate. The Wagyu Beef is amazingly tender flavorful. The best thing is that it's not glazed too sweet like many other places. A very light touch of Truffle Oil only adds complexity but not overwhelming. The confidence in finding this kind of balance instead of all out assault on the taste buds is a sign of maturity of the Chef to me. I'm Chinese and I have my fair share of Shu Mai from different places, the Pork Belly stuffed version here would knock out most of the Dim Sum places in town. The filling is nicely packed but not molded into a tight meatball like some places, which I appreciate very much because it takes effort and care to do so. If you're a Shu Mai fan, I would definitely recommend trying the version here at Soma. We're so satisfied already, but still can't resist the offer to try out the Tonkotsu Ramen prepared here, because kinjo-san mentioned earlier this week that it doesn't have the porky stinkiness that he can't stand. Guess what? You have to trust the taste of Japanese people when it comes to Japanese food. The broth is rich, infused with bone marrow, but not stinky! I prefer my broth rich with right amount of oiliness, and this really hit all the right spots. I love fattier cut of Char Siu, instead of leaner cut, which is the type served here. Dear Sushi or Japanese cuisine lovers, if you're not visiting Soma Sushi, I sincerely believe you're missing out on some of the best quality and value options here in Houston. The place is beautifully decorated with a lay back jazzy vibe to it. Service is very professional, our server Manny, whom I somehow recognized, is friendly, attention, and humorous, he just has it to be a great professional server. I highly recommend you to sit at the Sushi Bar if your Sushi is your beloved delight, let Chef Omi Higa works his magic and brings some of the best Sushi in town for your pleasure, you might enjoy more than what you expect like I do. (Sorry for the low light iPhone pics, they don't do justice to the beautifully presented food)

My husband and I drive an hour into Houston just to get sushi from Soma. We have been so many times and have never had a bad experience. Our favorite sushi rolls are the creamy mermaid and the Texas longhorn. Absolutely amazing. Lychee martinis are made to perfection and the nigiri is so fresh.

We had a wonderful time at Soma. The atmosphere is great. Nguyen, our server, was fantastic. We had an amazing tuna tasting with Toro and Otoro as well as other assortments of sushi and the Wagyu beef hot rock. It was a splendid dinner. We will be back for sure.

Soma is a great spot with a fairly extensive happy hour selection. The service was amazing as always. I would definitely recommend the pork belly buns and ceviche shooters as those are two of my favorites.

This place is decent. Pretty empty and big inside for a Saturday night which isn’t a great sign usually. We got the dumplings which were the best thing. We also got the blue fin and o toro sashimis and they were ok. The chirashi sashimi selection was also ok at best. We also got the firecracker roll which was good but you couldn’t taste any fish so is it really sushi?

The food is delicious. And service is great. I was very glad to see multiple options for various dietary preferences. Appetizers are very original and the specialty roll is a must. Sushi is top notch and is definitely one of the main reasons why coming back is a must. For those looking for a drink, bar has a nice ambience and cocktails are varied.
