Great breakfast sandwiches and all sorts of baked goods. Really friendly staff.
Every Thursday for the past year and a half I’ve been having coffee at Bear Buns every Thursday morning as part of my routine in the neighborhood. When I originally walked into Bear Buns it was three years ago when I open my office on Aero Drive. I was looking for good coffee and that was the closest coffee shop.
Little did I realize how good the coffee would be.
But after walking in there was a giant showcase filled with decadent, beautiful, and extraordinary pastries and desserts. This is my kryptonite.
I asked the cashier what is the most popular and they let me know the bagel sandwiches and the bear bun.
I soon realized that everything is made to order at this place with love and artists behind each step. I ordered the bagel sandwich with sausage and avocado, and took a bear bun to go.
I completely forgot I had came here for the coffee.
It’s now been three years and Bear Buns bakery is a weekly activity for me and one of my favorite places in San Diego. As a local realtor and community advocate for 92123 it is my pleasure to be able to patronize this place every Thursday morning at 9am.
Their pastries are amazing, the people that work there are amazing, it’s the perfect symbiosis of local coffee shop and cool bakery
If you pass by Serra Mesa, please stop by and check out, Bear Buns, say hello to the owners, Ashli and Michi, and also sit down and enjoy the vibe of an awesome local coffee shop.
My friend and I finally came here after his persistence of a place with the best cinnamon rolls anywhere, ever. He is 100% right. The cinnamon rolls, and the brown butter banana nut muffins, are worth the trip no matter where you live in the area or if you’re just visiting. Their iced chai latte with oat milk is also good to go. The only thing I wish is that I came here sooner!
For bakery, get 5* all baked on site including almond croissants. Sandwiches look pretty good, but unless it is extraordinary I personally do not buy sandwiches. Coffee is not great in my opinion, but I am in dilemma whether I buy another 5 cups to get 1 free (not great) coffee. Also, quite loud rap music was playing which I didn’t enjoy. Because this is a small local place and the servers knew their products and were quite friendly, I think overall a 4* is fair
this is one of our family’s favorite coffee shop and bakery!! the muffins are delicious, the coffee is wonderful, and the space is so cute. it’s biking distance from our house, and my mom works there from time to time. awesome atmosphere, definitely worth a visit
Nice little independent coffee shop that you should support. Baked goods are really good.
Coffee is good, and their sticky bun? To die for. Low key good place to get your coffee, dessert fix and work on stuffs.
I’ve been looking everywhere for a really great tasting sticky bun and tried several places around San Diego but every other one was over cooked and not “sticky.” Bear Buns Bakery did not disappoint—their sticky bun was fresh, definitely sticky and delicious!!! Cute little spot and worth the drive!
Cute bakery/cafe! I saw their cinnamon buns on instagram and figured I should go try them! I ordered a sticky bun and a vanilla latte. Very tasty! They also offer a bunch of freshly made sandwiches, I think I'll try one next time.
I’ve been here twice and have enjoyed their tasty breakfast & tea… but not only that, they are true sweethearts, I, unfortunately, locked my keys/purse in my car 🤦🏾♀️ while doing my laundry next door, and they were kind enough to help out w/funds to cover. I truly appreciated their generosity and top-notch customer care ♥️♥️
Love the sticky buns, coffee is great, service is pleasant, and it’s just the kind of place you’ll probably make a routine of going to.
Ordered some pies for my partner’s birthday- and oh my god they were so delicious!! They were so tasty and fresh, a definite crowd pleaser, and a very pleasant and easy experience in ordering them.
Unfortunately our experience in picking them up was quite different, as the cashier was unfriendly, unkind, and wore a frown on her face for our entire interaction. She seemed incredibly annoyed that we were there and irritated to answer any of our few questions. Considering it was my partners birthday and we came in good spirits, we left feeling uncomfortable and disheartened. That being said, the quality of the baked goods surpassed that part and we will definitely be coming back!

Consistently good food, and coffee. A wonderful stop for breakfast a short walk from home! Last visited July 6th, 2023, at around 10 am. I would highly recommend it.
