My then-Boyfriend/now husband introduced me to Sparty's Coney Island way back in the 90's. Their food portions are large and worth the value. One of the best meals to split between two people is the Sparty's Special Omelette - a six-egg monstrosity with cheese, diced ham, green pepper, diced tomatoes, and onions which we substitute with mushrooms), two servings of American fries, and eight half slices of your choice of toast (it's always Rye for us). This meal is quite filing, plus you can't beat the price point at $19.75. Their Detroit Coney Dogs are tasty and wonderful - getting six of those on Tuesdays for $1.99 each (with purchase of one regularly priced item) is a great lunch time value. Lastly, we've come to know the staff so we'll (Wayne the cook, Jen, Sarah, Heather, etc.) that they are like family to us. The food is wonderful and consistent, the prices are reasonable, the staff is super friendly, and they definitely keep the coffee flowing. Sparty's Coney Island - Definitely one of Greater Lansing's food treasures.
I'm new to the area so this was my first time visiting, therefore I didn't know what to expect. I went for breakfast and it was a traditional American style place with all of the normal old school type venue! Nothing fancy or flashy, but very homey and friendly.
On a whim we stopped at Spartys for brunch. Some of the prices shocked us (the meatlover omelet for $17.50) but then other prices were great. My husband got the smoked sausage omelet and I got the gyro with onion rings. We shared a plate of chili cheese fries. I was surprised that the gyro didn't come with feta on it so I added it. I was pleasantly surprised by how much feta they put on it, as well as how much tzatziki was on it. I have been craving a gyro and I was not disappointed at all. My husband was pleased with his omelet as well. The chili cheese fries were underwhelming I would say. Not a lot of flavor at all. The server was friendly and attentive without being annoying.
